The first six to eight weeks are wonderful and very unusual: you meet good (with strengths & weaknesses) people, see them in their daily lives, watch them deal with various problems. The single bad person is bad in a recognizable way. Then it turns into a fairly typical novela with a two-faced nurse, musical beds, misunderstandings, etc. Guillermo is happily married to Isabel (whom he considers his muse) with whom he has a daughter Alejandra. Isabel's sister Rosaura lives with them and is a partner in Guillermo's business. She loves Guillermo but also loves her sister. Sebastian is the wonderful "major domo" of the household who understands Rosaura's pain and loves her. Isabel suspects Rosaura's feelings and is a bit jealous of her competence. Guillermo seems to love them both, but in different ways. Nacho is the son of two happily married people (Silvia and Gustavo). He is engaged to Magdalena but his mother worries that she is too frivolous for her son. He is a race-car driver who plans on going to Indianapolis. Ana is the oldest daughter of Yolanda, a woman who is routinely abused by her second husband Rodolfo. Rodolfo is also a thief and becomes a murderer. He tries several times to rape Ana but she says nothing. Ana sings in the choir led by padre Miguel and works in a bakery. Riding on her bike one night, Nacho's car bumps into her. She is immediately attracted to him. They bump into each other several more times and Nacho starts to become attracted to her. He doesn't know that Magdalena is pregnant and resents her constant demands that she accompany him to Indianapolis where he wants to concentrate solely on his driving. Magdalena talks with her friend Andrea about her relationship with Nacho and how he seems to be distancing himself from her. Ana sees Rodolfo kill a "friend" for money but keeps quiet. Isabel starts to have headaches but the doctor says nothing is wrong with her.

Esta emotiva telenovela nos ofrece un contraste entre el sórdido mundo marginal donde reinan los criminales y sus víctimas y la high life de los músicos clásicos. Curiosamente, Cynthia Klitbo recibió un premio como "Villana del año" por su interpretación de Rosaura Ontiveros, un personaje conmovedor que poco tenía de malvado.

Sinopsis

En un barrio marginal del D.F. vive la adolescente Ana con su madre, sus hermanitas, y su padrastro, el maleante Rodolfo "El Gato" Sánchez. A pesar de vivir en la miseria, de ser testigo del abuso de su madre por parte del padrastro, y de ser ella misma víctima del acoso sexual de Rodolfo, Ana es una niña optimista, soñadora y muy trabajadora.

En un barrio elegante vive el prestigioso director de orquesta Guillermo Lamas, quien una vez fuera un niño marginal al igual que Ana. Guillermo ahora es feliz junto a su esposa Isabel y su hija Alejandra. Pero Isabel muere y Alejandra queda inválida a raíz de un accidente. Guillermo, destrozado, cae en la desesperación más profunda.

El Gato mata a uno de sus secuaces y Ana es testigo. La chica es acusada de ser cómplice de su padrastro y termina en La Colmena, una escuela-orfanato para niñas delincuentes. Las monjas que regentan La Colmena le dan a Ana el cariño y apoyo que tanto necesita.

La chica comienza a ocuparse de la emisora del colegio y bajo el apodo de "La Hormiga" se comunica con la enfermita Alejandra. Es así como Ana conocerá a los Lamas.

Intro from El Universal-Mexico: ...empezó por revelarnos la situación familiar que vive Ana, una bella joven vendedora de pan que tiene que soportar en silencio los maltratos que su padarastro le propina a su sufrida madre. La muchcha ha encontrado en su trabajo y en el coro de la iglesia un consuelo dentro de su tormentosa cotidianidad que además de la pobreza, incluye los gritos y golpes del borracho marido de su madre. No obstante el contexto en el que vive, Ana es bondadosa, inocente y entusiasta y no pierde la esperanza de que su destino cambie de manera favorable. Por otra parte, esta telenovela...nos presentó el entorno de que goza Guillermo, un director de orquesta que saborea las mieles del éxito pofesional y familiar, ya que ademásde contar con una buena posición econnómica, tiene una esposa e hija que lo adoran. Por si fuera poco, su cuñada Rosaura está enamorada en secreto de él, ya que lo considera el hombre perfecto. Nacho, corredor de autos, vive con sus padres, quienes lo apoyan incondicionalmente tanto en lo económico, como sentimental y profesionalmente. Este muchacho, quien sueña con ganar la carrera de indianápolis, está comprometido con Magdalena, una bella mujer que ve en él la posibilidad de consequir un matrimonio perfecto. Padre Miguel es un sacerdote de mal genio pero buenos sentimientos, que dirige el coro de su iglesia y apoya en la medida de sus posibilidades a la pobre Ana, quien tiene miedo de que su padrastro no cese de perseguirla. Es una historia de amor entre la humilde vendedora de pan y el famoso director de orquesta. El triángulo amoroso incluirá al corredor de automóviles, que conoce a la pobre Ana cuando accidentalmente la atropella. la atracción entre ambos será instantánea, pero se verá conflictuada por la novia de Nacho.

Summaries from El Universal-Mexico starting 1/5/97: Yolanda es la madre de Luisa, María y Ana, ésta reparte pan montada en una bicicleta y canta en el coro de la iglesía que dirige el padre Miguel. Nacho, hijo de Gustavo Nájera y Silvia, es corredor de autos y en uno de sus entrenamientos sufre un accidente (but isn't hurt). Guillermo es director de orquesta, está casado con Isabel y es cuñado de Rosaura, quien a su vez tienen una hija llamda Alejandra. Nacho atropella a Ana y esde ese momento , la joven repartidora de pan queda enamorada de él.

Ana ve un vestido en una tienda y anhela compararlo. Rodolfo roba el dinero de Ana. Isabel sufre un desmayo. Ana decide buscar a Nacho, pero al verlo se turba y huye. Rosaura e Isabel tienen un enfrentamiento por Guillermo. Magdalena está preocupada por una sospecha de embarazo. Ana presencia los actos vandálicos de Rodolfo (she sees him steal a purse, later kill his accompice and he knows she's seen him).

Rodolfo amenaza a Ana. Yolanda descubre que Rodolfo está herido. Yolanda y Ana mienten para encurbrir a Rodolfo. Isabel sufre fuertes dolores de cabeza. Magdalena comprueba que está embarazada. Nacho se niega a recibirla en su casa. Cuando Ana busca sus ahorros, descubre que han desaparecido y sospecha de Rodolfo.

Magdalena vislumbra una reconciliación con Nacho, pero decide no comentarle sobre su embarazo. Rosaura and Sebastian get drunk together; she knows he loves her and he knows she loves her sister and Guillermo. Yolando le pregunta a Rodolfo por qué tenia un picahielo y un pañuelo con sangre debajo de la cama. Ana tiene una pesadilla en la que se revelan las fechorías de Rodolfo. Father Miguel, tempted by Pepín, reads Ana's diary and knows something is wrong but not what. Rosaura y Ricardo tienen un encuentro romántico (they become or have been lovers). Isabel, Guillermo and Alejandra go to the ranch where the latter falls off her pony and must be taken to the hospital, but is ok.

Ricardo le pide a Rosaura se case con él. El médico le dice a Guillermo que Alejandra está fuera de peligro. Rodolfo continúa haciendo fechorías. Ana enferma dice en su delirio que Rodolfo mató con una hacha a alguien. Rodolfo encuentra sola a Ana en la vivienda y la acosa. Ricardo keeps trying to contact Guillermo to tell him something.

Yolanda's baby boy dies. Yolanda se desmaya en la puerta de la vecindad. Rodolfo amenaza a Ana y le dice que él intentó matar al vigilante de la farmacia. While playing polo, Ricardo pushes Guillermo off his horse. Guillermo en un arranque de cólera, golpea a Ricardo. Rodolfo va al hospital y mata al vigilante (so he can't testify against Rodolfo). Nacho, en una entrevista, manda un saludo a su "amiga accidente", es decir, Ana. Ella lo ve y felíz va a regalar pan a casa de los Najera. El padre Tomás invita a Ana a vivir en un internado para señoritas, donde podrá estudiar y progresar. Magdalena está celosa por el saludo que Nacho mandó a Ana. The concert is a success and, as usual, Guillermo goes to a boxing match afterwards.

Ana llega a su casa y encuentra a Yolanda fuera de sí. Rodolfo se resigna fácilmente a la muerte de su hija. Nacho dice a Silvia (by phone) que no se casará con Magdalena. Yolanda parece desconocer a Ana y no responde a sus preguntas. Guillermo dice a Ricardo que no podría vivir sin Isabel (but still Ricardo hasn't told him whatever it is he's been trying to reach him for). Rosaura dice a Verónica que cuando conoció a Guillermo vivieron dos meses de intenso romance. Nacho gana la carrera y Ana queda sorprendida cuando lo escucha decir en televisión que ella (su amiga accidente Ana) fue su amuleto. Magdalena se enfurece al escuchar las palabras de Nacho. Hortensia dice a Silvia que sospecha que Magdalena está embarazada. For her birthday, the father and the boys buy Ana the dress she's been dreaming of and working for. Guillermo hears Ana singing and is impressed.

Rosaura confiesa a Isabel que está enamorada de Guillermo, Isabel se sorprende. Magdalena consume una fuerte dosis de barbitúricos y es llevada de emergencia al hospital. Nacho le dice a Gustavo que no va a casarse con Magdalena pues ya no está enamorado de ella, pero Gustavo le dice que está embarazada. Rodolfo ve a Ana probándose su vestido nuevo y la acosa tratando de abusar de ella but she shoots him and he flees. Ricardo finally tells Guillermo that Isabel has an inoperable tumor and has only a few months to live (it's inconceivable that he would treat such news so casually, letting weeks pass without telling either Guillermo or Isabel). Guillermo tells Rosaura who tells Sebastian and the rest (all but Isabel who can't understand the change in their behavior). Nacho and his father decide to take a private plane to get home sooner; it crashes and they are killed.

La muerte de Nacho trastorna a Magdalena. Ana llora por su muerte. Luego encuentra a la policía en su casa, el comandante le dice que ella y su familia corren peligro al lado de Rodolfo. Guillermo encuentra a Magdalena en la calle, in a state of shock, y la lleva al hospital. He meets her mother who tells him about Nacho and the child. Magdalena's brutal father is furious on learning about the pregnancy; he decides they will go to Europe, return after the birth and tell all it is the child of her cousin Rosalia (who died recently). (Guillermo can't understand his attitude.) Silvia no quiere aceptar que los cuerpos que fue a reconocer son de Nacho y Gustavo, even though the dental records matched. Only when she sees the corpses does she believe. Isabel and the family go to the ranch; Rosaura stays behind for a day and spends the night with Ricardo.

Ricardo se encela de que Luque vaya a cenar con Rosaura. Isabel continúa con una fuerte tensión emocional, percibe que algo raro le pasa a su esposo. El padre Miguel aconseja a Ana que tenga mucho cuidado con Rodolfo. Isabel pregunta a Rosaura si se casaría con Guillermo en caso de que ella muera. (She doesn't yet know she is but has a feeling; she begs Rosaura that nobody but she, Rosaura, will take her place). Yolanda cada vez se encuentra más desequilibrada. Ana sees a man beating her mother & one of them shoots him; it isn't Rodolfo. Ana takes the blame and is put in a juvenile home where she becomes friends with Marina.

El padre Miguel se entera que Ana fue agredida por Rodolfo. Guillermo se entera por Ricardo que Isabel está embarazada. Magdalena queda incapacitada para volver a concebir. Ricardo confirma a Guillermo (and Rosaura) que la muerte de Isabel está próxima, ella lo escucha. Luque places a news item about a boxing match years before in which Guillermo accidentally killed his opponent. (Luque is angry because Guillermo has cancelled concerts.) Magdalena has an illegal abortion and almost dies. The doctors must perform a hysterectomy.

El doctor Ricardo Aguilar intenta ayudar a Magdalena, le ofrece acompañarla ante la sicóloga. (He seems taken with her, in spite of his feelings for Rosaura and the fact that Magdalena is 17 yrs. younger.) Ana insiste en declararse culpable, después en su nuevo hogar se hace amiga de Marina, pero el cambio drástico que sufre ahora en su vida, se refleja en la que fuera su vivienda. Ana is sentenced to two years although both her mother's prints & hers were on the gun and, with a broken right arm, it's hard to believe should could shoot with her left. Isabel tells Sebastian she knows the truth but not to tell the others & to help her. Rosaura confronts Magdalena in Ricardo's apartment. Rosaura then makes love to him and says goodbye: she won't tolerate betrayal. Magdalena and Ricardo become lovers; later Ricardo tells Rosaura he loves her, but he continues to live & be lovers with Magdalena. Ana beats up Marta, the roughneck of the institution (and it's hard to believe that a girl so good with her fists & feet could be so frightened by Rodolfo).

Isabel goes for a drive alone with her daughter. El auto de Isabel cae a un barranco. Isabel is killed; Alejandra is paralyzed. Guillermo destroys the piano he once told Alejandra was "like God" , to be loved & cared for. Marta picks a fight again with Ana but this time Ana turns the other cheek and Marta becomes her friend and Marina's. Later Ana learns that Alicia's odd behavior is due to epilepsy and does her best to care for her. The psychologist who is helping Ana seems also to have made her afraid that she will go crazy just like her mother, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. Twice, Rodolfo enters into the institution and threatens Ana and both times she freezes and says nothing. Guillermo finally reacts a bit and begins to visit Alejandra in the hospital; she still doesn't know her mother is dead. Rosaura hires a nurse for Alejandra who is the typical enfermera mala (one face for the adults and another for the child). Guillermo agrees to conduct a concert but Guillermo se siente mal y abandona el ensayo. Luque is furious. Rosaura pide a Ricardo le ayude a hacer reaccionar a Guillermo. Virginia is furious when she learns that Gustavo left her nothing in his will. Silvia arranges a deal with Don Arturo that makes Virginia think she can get more money for her house than she thought. Alejandra returns home with her nasty nurse. Magdalena gets a job and her own apartment. Guillermo tries to kill himself but can't. Sebastian helps him. Ana tells el padre that she doesn't want her sisters to think their mother is a murderer as well as being crazy. Rodolfo aparece súbitamente frente a Ana, huye pero recibe un disparo en la pierna (he isn't shot, don't know why it says that).

Guillermo habla con Rosaura sobre sus sentimientos y se besan. He calls her Isabel & leaves. She asks forgiveness of Isabel but says she must fight for him. Sebastián se deprime al ver que salen juntos (it's actually more that he sees how much Rosaura wants Guillermo; the latter is distant). Rosaura and Guillermo finally make love one night, but when she wakes up, he is gone. He leaves her a letter in which he begs her forgiveness, that this just isn't the time for them. She's devastated. He goes to Magdalena's apartment, then to his ranch. Alejandra has another accident but only breaks an arm. Carla begs Sebastian not to let Rosaura fire her and they don't! The police are sure that Rodolfo was killed in an explosion (his friend saw him enter the building, then saw a man drive away, thent saw the building explode) ...which makes Ana and the padres very happy. Guillermo teases Ricardo that he is old enough to be Magdalena's father but goes after her nonetheless. Magdalena se enfrenta a Rosaura cuando Guillermo la deja plantada para cenar and tells Rosaura this is a war she will win. Rosaura is hurt when she learns that Guillermo had a date with Magdalena, even if he did stand her up. Ana gets out of jail and goes to a convent (because she feared to be out in the world) as a sort of half-way house. Alejandra goes into the hospital for surgery and Magdalena visits her, as part of a new plan for winning Guillermo, and then begins chasing Guillermo with a vengeance. Rosaura sees them together and is jealous. Guillermo tells his boxing friend he needs a woman by his side. He invites Rosaura to a hotel for a romantic night together. Then, because Luque threatens to cancel a concert that Guillermo was counting on doing, Rosaura agrees to sleep with him. Magdalena takes pictures of them outside the hotel and sends them with anonymous letter to Guillermo.

Guillermo amenaza con golpear a Luque por haberle enviado las fotos y el anónimo. Luque tells Guillermo that he owes his success to women like Rosaura who will do anything to support his career. Guillermo refuses to talk to Rosaura; he tells José? that he feels betrayed by Rosaura and doubts his own ability. Ricardo pone en su lugar a Magdalena. Ana se encuentra con Rodolfo for a minute in the street. Nobody believes her. Ana starts working on the telephone switchboard and accidentally "meets" Alejandro. She begins telling her stories over the phone and, again accidentally at first, Guillermo listens in, then participates. They don't know her name. Magdalena arranges to meet Guillermo at the Polo grounds. Guillermo tells Rosaura that he will never direct another orchestra. Ana's mother is worse; she rarely remembers or recognizes anyone. Rosaura can't understand Guillermo's change in attitude until she finds the pictures. Magdalena and Luque spend Christmas in New York and she lies about it to Ricardo. Rosaura talks to Guillermo about the pictures; he says that now that it is out in the open, there can be nothing between them. Guillermo rides of a cliff into a lake but just hurts his ribs. When Rosaura comes to care for him, he tells her to leave.

Ana y Alejandra reaccionan con angustia cuando Guillermo cae al desfiladero. Rosaura humilla a Luque al golpearlo frente a sus músicos (for the photos, which he denies sending, she punches him pretty good). Gabriel se enamora de Ana. Rodolfo consigue trabajo en la hacienda de Guillermo con el nombre falso de Mario Garcia, with the help of Clara who is his new, and abused, woman. Magdalena publica las fotos de Luque y Rosaura but Ricardo and Guillermo continue to think it is Luque's work. Guillermo makes up with Rosaura, but it is over. Ana has her 17th birthday.

Mario has, apparently, learned how to be charming. He sets his sights on Rosaura and acts like a simple and very enamored man who knows she is above him. Guillermo and Magdalena become lovers. Rosaura se alegra al saber que Guillermo ha vuelto a la música. But then he tells her that he can't give up Magdalena. Mario takes advantage of Rosaura's sadness by being very caring; she tells Verónica she feels an odd attraction for him, because he "es como un animalito"...even though she has seen him making love to Clara. Magdalena y Luque se demuestran afecto. Magdalena and Guillermo become lovers. Guillermo dice a Magdalena que si desea continuar con él, deberá decirselo a Ricardo. Nicador warns Rosaura about Mario, but she doesn't believe him.Rosaura despide a Mario de su trabajo [this didn't happen]. Guillermo pide a Rosaura que sigan [this didn't happen either]. Cuando Ana ve a Marío en la calle, again, insiste en ser monja y no volver a pisar el mundo exterior.

Ricardo insiste a Rosaura que se case con él. Ana es aceptada por las monjas para ingresar como novicia a la Orden de las Obradoras. Rosaura muestra a Guillermo que entre Luque y Magdalena hay una relación, but Guillermo believes Magdalena's denial. Pepin amenaza con tirarse del campanario si Ana no corresponde a su amor. Guillermo dice a Rosaura que se casará con Magdalena lo que provoca que ésta se desmaye. After she gets out of the hospital, she goes to the ranch, telling Guillermo she will decide later what to do. The nuns and Silvia arrange for Ana to be Alejandra's tutor. There, nobody seems to recognize her (and she denies to Alejandra that she is her "amiguita") and only Sebastian knows her entire history. She and Clara take an instant dislike to each other, as do she and Magdalena. Mario threatens Nicador and makes him believe that he and Rosaura have something going.

Ana intenta adaptarse a su nueva casa. Guillermo trata de deshacerse de Magdalena y está complacido con el desempeño de Ana. With Vicenta's help, Mario drugs Rosaura, puts her to bed and undresses her. When she wakes up, Rosaura se enfrenta furiosa a Mario. He explains that it is unhealthy to sleep in clothes, that Vicenta was asleep, and demonstrates he is strong enough to take what he wants. Rosaura slaps him but that's all. Magdalena se siente prisionera ante la presencia de Luque (he forces her to sleep with him rather than go to dinner with Guillermo). Mario strews flowers everywhere in the ranch and in Rosaura's bedroom begging forgiveness, and leaves. She goes after him. Rosaura no resiste el impulso de besar a Mario. Un comandante de policía entrega a Rosaura documentos importantes que comprometen a Mario. He gets a room in the ranch and tells Clara he is closer than ever to owning everything, including Rosaura. She tells Veronica that Mario reminds her of a "savage" Guillermo.

With the help of Vicenta, Mario drugs Rosaura, puts her to bed and undresses her. When she wakes, she confronts him in the barn and he explains that it is "unhealthy" to sleep in clothes and that Vicenta was asleep. She is angry and slaps him but doesn´t fire him or respond to the way he grabs her to demonstrate his strength. The next day, with Clara´s money, he strews bouquets of roses up her steps to her room with notes saying Perdón and leaves the ranch. She goes after him and brings him back. The next day, when her car breaks down and she is late returning, she finds that the police are there (Nicandro called them, thinking she had been kidnapped). To protect Mario, she lies to the police and tells them that she & Mario are lovers. Rosaura exige a Mario que le revele su verdadero identidad. Magdalena se las ingenia para seducir a Guillermo. Rosaura llega a la conclusión de que sólo puede enamorarse de un hombre. La pelea entre Mario y Ricardo amenaza con terminar trágicamente. Guillermo formaliza su relación con Magdalena.

Rosaura exige saber quien es Marío. He lies, says he was unjustly convicted and Rosaura seems to believe him. Ricardo arrives at the ranch and besa a Rosaura frente a Mario. Ana returns to La Colmena when madre Tornera becomes ill and things she says make the mother superior refuse to let her return to Guillermo's home (she's afraid Ana is in love with him). Ana pide ayuda a Gabriel para lograr sus propósitos and runs back to Guillermo's house. Guillermo y Sebastián se sorprenden ante la inesperada llegada de Ana. The mother Superior visists Guillermo and he swears that to him Ana is just a child, so she stays. Magdalena and Guillermo fight about Alejandra; she tells Andrea that she really loves Guillermo. Ricardo reta a Mario. Ana contagia a Alejandra de una enfermedad de cuidado. Clara shows Ana how to give Alejandra water therapy and Guillermo sees her in a bikini purchased by Sebastian.

Rosaura se enfrenta a Mario y exige hablar con Clara. Magdalena miente a Guillermo diciéndole que desapareció una noche para espiar a su padre por infiel. Clara miente y le dice a Rosaura que Mario sufrió un accidente. (that she found him, badly injured, in a car with the papers of Mario Garcia Suarez and without a memory except of an orphanage. Clara does admit that she loves him.) Ricardo besa a Rosaura apasionadamente y Mario los observa celoso. Magdalena se disgusta por las atenciones que le tiene Guillermo a Alejandra.

Ana visita a sus hermanas del orfanatorio quienes le reprochan que ya no las quiere, pues presta más atención a Alejandra. Ricardo sorprende a Mario cuando abraza apasionadamente a Rosaura. Mario se encarga de arreglar el auto de Rosaura (he fixes the brakes thinking that Ricardo will be using it), sin embargo, se asusta al saber que Ricardo y ella viajaron en un coche sin frenos. Ana y Alejandra enferman de rubéola. Ricardo and Mario fight; Rosaura fires him, but he knows he'll be back. Rosaura tells Veronica that Ricardo bores her. Ana feels guilty for giving Alejandra measles. Marcello y Teresa (the mother superior) talk and both are depressed afterwards. Ricardo survives the car accident caused by Mario and Rosaura arrives before Mario can kill him. Silvia doesn't understand why Don Arturo doesn't want to see her anymore. Mario comforts the distraught Rosaura. Ricardo tells ? how he and Guillermo ran away from the orphanage. Guillermo finally realizes that Ana is the voice on the telephone. She explains that she didn't want Alejandra to lose a friend. Guillermo loses some kind of contest and becomes very depressed but Ana's fury at his destruction of his music brings him out of it.

She explains to Sebastian why she slept with Luque and that she knows Guillermo can never forgive the betrayal. Just then Mario arrives and tells her he's taking her back to the ranch. She can't resist his kiss. Magdalena se sorprende cuando Guillermo se harta y la deja hablando sola (after she became angry at his spending the day with Ana and his daughter) . [1/9] Rosaura eschucha la voz de Ricardo, y aleja a Mario. Ana se encuentra frente a frente con Mario and faints. When she wakes, she goes to La Colmena; everybody tells her she was just imagining she saw Rodolfo because she was tired and upset because of Rosaura's attitude. Magdalena continúa con sus planes para ganarse a Alejandra. Ricardo shows Guillermo the police report but doesn't suggest the culprit was Mario. Mario y Rosaura son sorprendidos en un momento de pasión by Magdalena but Rodolfo threatens her. Magdalena y Guillermo pelean. Guillermo pide a Ana que cuide de él y su hija. Mario entra sospechoso a la habitación de Ana, but has to leave before he does more than just look at the deeply asleep Ana. Gabriel starts teaching at La Colmena; Marta likes him. Guillermo reads the message to Ana in the book of poems given her by Gabriel; he is a bit jealous. Pepín visits Guillermo's home and runs into Mario; when he tells the padres that Rodolfo is alive, they refuse to believe him: it was dark, he was frightened. They're all convinced that the police are right and that Rodolfo is dead. Rosaura becomes more and more depressed; only Mario seems to care for her.

[1/16] Returning home from the hospital, Guillermo sees Rosaura and Mario nude in the pool. Guillermo se va enojado en su auto, Rosaura corre tras él. Mario furioso quiere detenerla. Guillermo spends the night with Magdalena; Rosaura spends it with Mario, in his room. Silvia informa a Ana que su hijo Nacho había cancelado su boda con Magdalena antes de morir. Luque se queja to Magdalena de los moretones en su cara (Mario hit him in Rosaura's office). Trata de besar a Magdalena pero ella lo detiene, porque Guillermo podría golpearlo.

[1/16] Rosaura se entrega a Mario, Sebastián no desea delatarla. (The next morning, Ricardo wants to see her and Sebastian subtly hints to the just arrived Guillermo why she isn't available.) Guillermo se entera de lo sucedido y dice a Ricardo que ambos perdieron a Rosaura. He explains that Rosaura spent the night with Mario. Ricardo is hurt. Rosaura tells Verónica that the intimacy she found with Mario was something extraordinary, a combination of pleasure and fear. Ana comforts Clara in the hospital, not knowing she is crying because she knows Mario spent the night with Rosaura. The next day, Mario beats her again; the maids hear but do nothing. "It's a couple's matter". Magdalena le hace cariños a Alejandra hipócritamente para ganarse a Guillermo. Ana descubre a Clara y se compadece de ella por la golpiza que le propino Mario. Rosaura argue repeatedly over who owns the house and who should leave. It turns out that Guillermo's first wife was both rich and older than he. Rosaura buys Mario new clothes and a car and they move, temporarily, into a hotel where Mario is registered as Guillermo Llamas. Rosaura sees Magdalena having a friendly meal with Luque. After she slaps Mario for some reason, he hits her hard. When she explains her black eye to Verónica, she says it's her fault, her strong character. She goes back to the hotel room; when Mario arrives he begs her pardon and they reconcile. At Guillermo's house, Padre Miguel meets Mario. Padre Tomás tells him Mario must be a twin or a lookalike (as Mother Teresa also suggests to Ana). A policeman sees Mario in the hotel lobby but his boss doesn't believe him either. Rosaura finally learns about the brakes on Ricardo's car but refuses to believe that Mario was responsible. Magdalena swears to Guillermo that she was tricked into eating with Luque by Rosaura and Ricardo.

[1/23 ] Magdalena, trying to find out who told Guillermo about Luque, goes to Mario's hotel room where he starts to seduce her when Rosaura enters. Rosaura y Magdalena pelean, Mario las separa. Then he threatens Rosaura again, tells her he loves the fear in her eyes. Ana and Guillermo spend more time together. Magdalena tells Andrea that Mario is very attractive. Guillermo tells Ricardo it was Luque who told him about the meal with Magdalena. El comandante revisará el expediente de Rodolfo ante la insistencia del padre Miguel. Guillermo despierta a Ana y Alejandra para correrse con ellas una parranda de música y malteadas. Ana meets Crispin. Ricardo encuentra a Magdalena con Luque y le dice que él le contó las cosas malas de ella a Guillermo.

[1/26] Magdalena se molesta sobremanera con Luque. Alejandra comienza a caminar con ayuda de sus muletas. Mario cela a Rosaura porque ésta fue a ver a Ricardo quien le aconsejó cuidarse pues teme por su vida. Rosaura finally goes to see Ricardo; she tells him she loves only Guillermo but Mario is the only person she can count on. She defends Mario. The police start asking more questions but, to protect (so they think) Rosaura, Sebastian, Clara, Guillermo all lie. Mario insists to Rosaura that he is innocent and they go to the ranch.

Al enseñarle sus primeras lecciones musicales, Guillermo siente irresistible atracción por Ana. Sixto tells the police that Mario fixed the brakes but Mario denies it and has planted evidence in Sixto's room. Then he has Vicenta help Sixto get off the ranch. Later, Mario amenaza a Sixto con una pistola and forces him off a cliff. Guillermo gets a letter from, he thinks, Luque, explaining why he was breakfasting with Magdalena; it was forged by Magdalena who explains to Andrea that she is very good at forgery. Mario leaves the ranch and goes to Clara's apartment (where the latter fled after attempting suicide). He leaves a letter for Rosaura explaining that he can't live with the doubt in her eyes; he tells Clara this is part of his game: Rosaura will want him back.

[1/29 ] Money and the police report are found in Sixto's room. Nicanor is for some reason accused of the theft. Mario miente para defender a Nicanor. Verónica y Silvia continúan con su turbia amistad. Guillermo cae de nueva cuenta en los encantos de Magdalena. It turns out that the money came from Rodolfo's armed robbery years before. Rosaura se inquieta por la prolongada ausencia de Mario. Alejandra se niega a aceptar a Magdalena como su madrastra, aunque ellos parecen estar dispuestos a formalizar su relación. El comandante de la policía revela datos confidenciales. Gabriel está desilusionado porque Ana ama a Guillermo y no a él. Rosaura suplica la ayuda de Sebastián. Magdalena insulta a Rosaura y le dice que ella es el amor de Guillermo.

[2/3 ] Rosaura visits her house and finds Guillermo embracing Ana. He tells her he can never forgive what she did with Luque; she says that proves he still loves her but he tells Crispin he doesn't. Rosaura está dolida porque Guillermo se ha enamorado de Ana. Silvia and Arturo dine; she tells him she can't love anybody other than her dead husband. Rosaura finds and decorates an apartment. Alejandra tells her father she knows Ana was her friend but doesn't want him to tell her. Clara returns to the house on orders of Mario. Clara asegura a Mario que Ana no ha hablado con la policía. Guillermo está fastidiado por los berrinches de Magdalena y para tranquilizarla le compra un anillo (engagement). Clara gets Rosaura's address for Mario. Magdalena humilla a Ana, le enseña el anillo y dice a Alejandra que ella será su nueva mamá, la niña llora.Mario really misses Rosaura but refuses to admit he loves her. Guillermo lleva a Alejandra y Ana (and Clara) al rancho..

[2/6 ] Ana and Guillermo, caught in a storm, rest in a cave where Ana gets a fever. Mario knows that Clara was fired from her last hospital job for stealing & selling drugs. Clara begs Rosaura to forgive Mario. Matilda se da cuenta de que algo puede pasar entre Guillermo y Ana por sus actitudes. Ana grita en su delirio que Mario es Rodolfo (only Clara hears). Magdalena se emborracha y llega a casa de Guillermo (it's a pretense as a way to beg him to forgive her. Ana watches them kiss. La doctora Díaz se entera que Ana está enamorada de Guillermo. Rosaura llega a platicar con Guillermo tratando de ocultar los moretones from the beating Mario gave her for talking on the phone to Guillermo. He sees them but feels helpless to do anything. .

[2/11 ] Sebastián sospecha algo raro cuando recibe una carta extraña from Clara. Dr. Diaz talks with Matilda and Sebastian. Ana goes back to La Colmena. Mario returns to Rosaura. Guillermo begins rehearsal again but isn't the same, he's cold. Rosaura visits Ana. The police captain asks el padre for Ana's help in proving Mario is Rodolfo. When Ana calls Alejandra, Guillermo listens in and begs her to return so she does. Mario beats Rosaura mercilessly and calls Clara in fright because she is bleeding profusely. Rosaura pierde al bebé que esperaba a consecuencia de los golpes. Ana logra imponer su opinión en los ensayos de la orquesta de Guillermo, mientras que Magdalena se desespera porque él no le hace caso y le exige anuncie sus planes de boda. Guillermo tells Magdalena he doesn't plan to marry. Nobody can find Rosaura who's been taken to a hospital by Clara. She and Diana decide not to tell Ricardo or Guillermo. Guilermo refuses to attend the party in his honor; he buys Ana an expensive coat. Guillermo le declara su amor a Ana. Magdalena se encuentra con Ana y la agrede. Guillermo no sabe que Rosauro está hospitalizada. Rosaura talks to Ana and tells her how to help Guillermo prepare for the concerts. Magdalena realizes Guillermo doesn't love her; she decides to win him for vengeance. Sebastian learns Rosaura is hospitalized; Verónica also visits her.

[2/16] El comandante de la policia está seguro que Ana puede hacer revelaciones que sirvan para capturar a Rodolfo. Este recibe una sorpresa al tratar de entrar a la recámara de Rosaura; he's shocked by what he did but blames her. Magdalena intenta entrar al concierto de Guillermo pero Ana se lo impide and hits her. Magdalena enojada le dice que está investigando su pasado para mostrarle a todos que es una delincuente. Ana refuses to help the police. Rosaura forgives Mario. Magdalena's father discovers from Guillermo that she explained an absence by telling him she was comforting her mother because of her father's affair; he doesn't, however, tell Guillermo that was a lie. Ana returns again. Clara tells Mario she's dying of cancer but he just laughts. Ricardo, and later Guillermo, finally learn where Rosaura is. When Mario tries to hurt Rosaura again, Guillermo bursts in and beats him up. The police captain talks to Mario but the latter refuses to admit he is Rodolfo. Rosaura refuses to denounce him to the police to avoid publicity. He promises to kill Guillermo. Magdalena tells Luque she hates concerts. Matias agrees to help the police prove Mario is Rodolfo. Magdalena plans something with Luque in exchange for sex. While together, Mario arrives. He and Magdalena form a contract in exchange for sex. Magdalena tells Guillermo that Ana was jailed for killing a man in cold blood. Instead of throwing Ana out, he ends his engagement with Magdalena and tries to get Ana to tell him her past by telling how as a young thief, he was found and shadowed by Dona Lucia until she adopted him.

[2/20 ] Magdalena propone un plan a Luque contra Ana. Rosaura no quiere salir del hospital porque afuera la espera Mario. Ricardo se preocupa porque Mario fue armado a buscar a Guillermo para ajustar cuentas. Ana informa a Sebastián que ha convencido a Guillermo para que Clara regresa a casa.

[ ] Guillermo intenta que Ana conozca las aficiones que tiene, sin embargo, ella se espanta cuando la lleva a una pelea de box. Magdalena sufre porque no tiene a Guillermo a su lado. Guillermo takes pity on Rosaura and they make love; then he begs her pardon. Mario tells Rosaura about Magdalena. Vicenta tells Clara she's pregnant and that Mario killed Sixtus; Clara tells her to forget it and be quiet.

[don't know when these things happened] Ana decide dejar a Guillermo, le deja sólo una pequeña nota como explicación. Rosaura es victima de las agresiones de Magdalena, quien asegura que aquélla desea despojarlo de Guillermo. Mario es golpeado por Rosaura cuando ésta se entera que también duerme con Magdalena, y le advierte que no lo quiere volver a ver.

2/25: Ana, Alejandra and Guillermo go to the beach where he looks at Ana and sees his wife. Rosaura pays off Vicenta. Guillermo realizes he loves Ana; she still doesn't like being kissed. Rosaura tells Mario she loves him. They get married. Guillermo tells la madre superio that he wants to marry Ana. She blesses the union. Marina gets married. Diana y Ricardo spend a night together but he tells her he doesn't love her.

[3/2 ] Magdalena piensa que Guillermo llegara buscarla en cualquier momento. Mario está confundido ante las reacciones de Rosaura. Ana está preocupada que Guillermo reaccione negativamente cuando se entere que tiene más hermanas. Rosaura learns that Ricardo, Mario and Guillermo all came from the same orphanage at different times and that Mario and Guillermo had the same father. Magdalena gets Guillermo in bed again and tells Ana; she pretends not to know and Rosaura tries to lie for him. Mario en el juego pierde todo el dinero y apuesta al automóvil de Rosaura; she collects it and him. Mario se presenta ante Ana para acosarla y desquitarse del odio que le tiene a Guillermo. Matias doesn't believe Mario is Rodolfo because of Rosaura. Mario doesn't believe Rosaura loves him; she calls out Guillermo's name when they make love. Clara's become Mario's conficante. Guillermo is beaten up and stabbed at the polo ground. Arturo returns and proposes to Verónica; she accepts. Ignacio turns up as a mechanic where Matias works; he has lost his memory and is mute. He goes by the name Domingo Salazar.

[3/5] At a concert out of town, Ana and Guillermo become lovers. Ana se siente feliz de entregarse a Guillermo. Matias finally remembers that it was Rodolfo who escaped from the house before it blew and tells the comandante. Domingo sees Magdalena in a car and her face is familiar, as later is the voice of his mother. Rosaura visits the concert "por la utlima vez" without Guillermo's seeing her; Mario is waiting for her when she returns. Nadie sabe que Domingo es en realidad Ignacio. Ricardo informa a Guillermo que Mario es su pariente. Guillermo and Ana return home. Magdalena insiste en quitarse la vida y culpar a Guillermo de ello. (she arranges to be found before it's too late). Still, Guillermo tells her he doesn't love her. Clara is undergoing chemotherapy and says goodbye to Alejandra. La madre Tornero is hospitalized. El padre Miguel sospecha de la identidad de Domingo, pues piensa que se parece a Ignacio. Clara encuentra a Rosaura esposada en un tubo de la cocina. She finally releases Rosaura who tells her that she does love Mario but wants to keep him from killing someone else. For her wedding, Verónica dresses like Madame Pompadou! Rosaura doesn't attend.

[3/10] Mario visits Yolanda in his search for help. Yolanda sufre una crisis nerviosa en el hospital cuando recibe la visita de Rodolfo.Domingo fingers a cross which, unknown to him was one of a pair given to him and his mother by his father. Ana's mother dies. Magdalena hace creer a Guillermo que será padre del hijo que espera Iwith lab results for which she paid), lo que conmociona al compositor. Alejandra cuenta a Ana sobre la visita de Magdalena a su papá. Mario discovers that Matias is working with the police and makes him a "double agent". Clara tells Rosaura that if she loves Mario enough, she can pardon him his crimes. Vicenta Ruiz goes to the police. Mario calls Clara from Magdalen's apartment and Ana answers; she swears vengeance. Guillermo tells Crispin he is worried about the possible bad influences of Ana's sisters on his duaghter. Magdalena forges a letter from her father saying he won't help with the child. Guillermo knows something is odd with Ana but not what; she tells him she wants to return to La Colemna and postpone the wedding for 2 months. Ana, por su parte, decide encerrarse en La Colmena y no salir hasta su boda con Guillermo. Rosaura discovers she's pregnant again and refuses to talk to mario when he calls. Ana initiates adoption procedues for her sisters. Mario tells Matias that the orphanage gave him the name Mario, that ROdolfo was an alias. Rosaura tells Clara she's pregnant and that she has denounced Mario to the police and that her apt is under surveillance. Rosaura desea retirarse del medio artistico y pide a Luque sea manager de Guillermo. Ana se enfrenta a Magdalena, quien tiene una pistola en la mano, cuando se escucha un disparo. Ana is slightly hurt. Magdalena shows Ana the lab results and the letter she forged from her father. Ana believes Magdalena and decides to give up Guillermo. She gives her engagement ring to Alejandra. Guillermo suspects Magdalena is responsible for Ana's letter of goodbye.

[3/18] Rosaura desea dejar a Rodolfo pero no puede. Ana está confundida respecto a sus sentimiento para Guillermo. Sylvia tells Hortensia she must tell Guillermo the truth. Mario gets into Rosaura's apt in spite of the police guard and they make love. Magdalena takes money from Mario; she plans to pay for a fake miscarriage. Sylvia tells Ana and Guillermo that Magdalena is sterile, but not that she had an abortion. Guillermo also finds the laboratory person who forged the pregnancy results and confronts Magdalena. Finalmente se descubre que el embarazo de Magdalena es fingido. Ana and Guillermo reconcile. Domingo waits outside the orphanage every day waiting for Ana. Mario finds Matias stealing from him and brutally tortures and murders him. Magdalena is thrilled with the idea that Mario stole all the money he has. She uses some of it to buy Olga in La Colmena. She calls Guillermo anonymously and tells him that when Ana is supposedly at the orphanage she is really with her stepfather with whom she has long had a relationship. Guillermo tells Crispin about it and seems inclined to believe the lie. As it happens, Ana hasn't told him that the adoption procedures involve various trips out of the orphanage for tests, and when she finally meets Domingo she goes back every day to talk with him because he looks so much like Nacho. Hortensia talks to Guillermo about Magdalena's miscarriage and gets Ricardo to agree not to tell him that it was an abortion. Luque desea sacar partido de la popularidad de Guillermo. La policia sigue cada vez más de cerca la pista de Rodolfo. Alejandra extraña los cuidados y las pláticas de Ana.

[3/20] Ana está feliz en La Colmena, pues siente que regresa a su hogar, pero a Guillermo le disgusta que a todos lados los vigile una religiosa. Magdalena se desespera porque Guillermo no la busque y decide ir a su casa, pero Alejandra no la deja entrar y le dice que la única mujer que entra en su casa es su mamá Ana. Rosaura no sabe si decirle a Guillermo que está esperando un hijo de Mario. Domingo no ceja en su empeño por encontrar a la mujer que lo impresionó por su belleza. Ana espera vengarse antes de casarse y éste pague por haber matado a su madre.

[ ] Ana le dice a Alejandra que aunque no se case con Guillermo, nunca dejará de quererla y siempre estará a su lado. Guillermo no sabe qué hacer para que Magdalena se aleje para siempre de su vida. Mario le asegura a Rosaura que a pesar de lo que le hizo nunca se librará de él. A Ricardo le remuerde la conciencia por el supuesto embarazo de Magdalena. Ana sueña que se casa con Guillermo.

[ ] Magdalena intenta convencer a Guillermo de que no se case con Ana (Kate del Castillo), él no la toma en cuenta. Ana, por su parte está dispuesta a convertirse en monja. Silvia le confía a Ana que Magdalena no puede procrear hijos. Mario trata de entrar en la casa de Rosaura y mata al vigilante del lugar. Finalmente Magdalena convence a Guillermo de que se casen a la brevedad, por lo que Rosaura trata de que Ana busque a

Guillermo. ¿Con quien se casará finalmente Guillermo? ¿ Logrará Magdalena conquistar al compositor? ¿Mario pagará sus fechorías?. No se pierda el desenlace de esta telenovela el viernes 28 de noviembre.

Ultima semana:

El Universal, 11/23/97 -Esta semana llega a su fin "Alguna vez.." misma que acaparó la atención del televidente, con una historia creíble y las buenas actuaciones de todos los que ahí participaron, indudablemente Humterto Zurita y Kate del Castillo hicieron una linda pareja aunque tardaron bastante en encontrarse en la historia, lo que causó un poco de aburrimiento entre sus seguidores. Raúl Estrella todo un villano que del cine salta a la pantalla de televisión, Eugenia Cauduro fue la sorpresa ya que demostró que no sólo es una cara bonita, en fin, de nueva cuenta Florinda Meza se anota un 10 en otra de sus producciones que tuvo que sufrir no sólo cambios de horario sino también mutilaciones de media hora, lo que fue en detrimento de la historia, que al final se impuso como debe de ser cuando una producción es ciento por ciento profesional

Guillermo gets letters supposedly from Ana to Mario telling him she must marry Guillermo because of his money. In reality, they are forgeries of Magdalena's. Meanwhile, Ana tells everyone she's visiting the orphanage when she is really seeing Domingo. Magdalena has also paid Olga, one of the girls in La Colmena, to call Guillermo anonymously telling him that when Ana says she's going to the orphanage she is really seeing Mario. He gives orders not to accept calls or visits from Ana. Mario calls Ana and tells her she must come to a construction site to save Guillermo's life. Olga tells Guillermo. When he arrives at the construction site, he sees Mario kissing Ana and then watches her leave. Magdalena, meanwhile, has gone to Rosaura and told her that Mario will kill Guillermo. Rosaura arrives as Mario is about to kill him. She tells him they are brothers; it doesn't matter. He aims at the unconscious Guillermo but Rosaura throws herself on top of him and is shot instead. Convinced that Rosaura is dead, Mario sets of explosives and, presumably, kills himself. The police, warned by Clara, arrive---but too late.

The next scene is a month later, a month during which Guillermo has holed himself up in the music room and has refused to see anybody. One assumes that Rosaura and Mario are dead, but they are not. The dying Clara begs Ana's forgiveness. Rosaura visits Mario in jail and tells him that she is going to have the baby, that she doesn't know if she's carrying his child or Guillermo's and that she has loved Guillermo all her life but is at the same time crazy in love with him. Ana has been trying to find out about Domingo's past and confirm that he is Nacho. Domingo, finally remembering Ana's name, chases after her and is killed, this time for good, by an automobile...the day before his mother arrives home.

Dos meses pasan. Alejandra, back home from Switzerland, and walking, calls Ana to tell her about the trip and that Guillermo and Magdalena are back together. They have, indeed, set a wedding date. Andrea feels increasingly guilty about supporting all of Magdalena's lies but Hortensia convinces her to maintain silence. Virginia tells Rosaura about the letters Magdalena forged and how she was responsible for the pictures of Rosaura and Luque. Rosaura tells Ana to fight for Guillermo; she refuses. She has decided to become a nun because God's love is constant. Magdalena forges a letter from Guillermo to Sebastian firing him immediately. She explains to Guillermo that Sebastian left because he couldn't support her as the nueva dueña de la casa. Guillermo accepts the explanation with only the mildest of surprise! La madre Tornera dies in her sleep.

Ultimo capitulo:

Sebastian visits Ana and apologizes for believing the letters; one of the maids told him about Magdalena's explanation to Guillermo for his leaving and realized that the letter he received, like those from Ana to Mario, were forged by Magdalena. He asks for her help, but she refuses. Magdalena hires a new major domo and, in essence, fires the rest. Ana, in preparation for entering the convent as a novitiate, buries her diary. Verónica tells Andrea she is a fool to continue to support Magdalena, a woman who asks for everything and gives nothing. Ricardo gets a letter from Guillermo telling him not to come to the wedding or visit them thereafter. Diana questions its authenticity. Magdalena sends a letter to Guillermo from Ricardo saying he can't go to the wedding and implying it is because of his prior relationship with Magdalena. Again, Guillermo accepts the letter on its face and assumes that Ricardo will get over it. Sebastian goes to Rosaura and asks for her help in unmasking Magdalena; she agrees.

At the church, Olga approaches Guillermo and Andrea convinces him they must talk before the wedding. The wedding starts. Magdalena says "lo accepto" but Guillermo says "no" and strides out of the church. Andrea tells Magdalena that she could not ignore her conscience any longer and that Magdalena must, of course, understand women of her "class". Guillermo arrives at the convent and carries Ana out before she can take her initial vows.

Seis meses despues. We see Sebastian showing postcards and pictures to Alejandra and Ana's sisters (all dressed alike). Rosaura is in the Mediterranea, with Ricardo who has become the best mother in the world for her child. Then we see her conducting her own orchestra with Luque in attendance and Ricardo and her child. We then see the end of Ana's wedding and the explanation for the odd expression on her face in one of the photos. They are now in Australia on their honeymoon.

Minor threads: Marina had her baby. Gabriel and Marta don't appear to get together. Verónica is happy with her new husband.
