     www.telenovela-world.com:Alondra Summaries in English- Episodes 1-2  Author: florecita m. (---)  Date:   07-11-04 19:17 PDT

    Hi,

I am going to start putting English summaries of "Alondra" on this foro. Below are the summaries from the first two episodes. The name of the actor is in parenthesis.

The story begins when Alondra is 5 years old. She is running around her house looking for her mother. Her mother Veronica (Jacqueline Andere) is in bed, dying. Her husband Baldomero (Eric del Castillo) is at her side. Veronica is sick with Tuberculosis. Her last wish to her husband is that he will always remind Alondra of her, and that she will always love her. She also requests that he never leaves nor forsakes her. Before dying, she asks to see her daughter for one last time. Alondra goes to her mother's bedroom and while Veronica is speaking to her for one last time, she dies. Alondra and Baldomero become very sad as Veronica dies before their eyes.

The next day, Baldomero invites his sister Loretto (Beatriz Sheridan) and her two childern to live at his house. When Alondra is 7 years old, she and her father go to the train station to meet Loretto and her children, Maria Elisa and Rigoberto. They go to live at Baldomero's house. Alondra and Maria Elisa become friends immediately. But what started as anticipation turns into bad luck for Alondra. Her aunt doesn't like her and whenever Rigoberto breaks something or pulls pranks, Alondra is the one who gets blamed and punished by her aunt. She thinks that Alondra is causing all of those problems, while it is really Rigoberto. Loretto decides to send Alondra and Maria Lisa to a boarding school run by nuns. She sends Rigoberto to another religious boarding school, for young boys who will become priests. She does this while Baldomero is away at the hacienda that he owns, which is far away from his house. He gets mad when he finds out what his sister did. Alondra does not like the boarding school or the strict nuns. One night, while everyone at the boarding school is alseep, she tells Maria Elisa that she is going to escape because the school is very scary and she wants to go home. Maria Elisa does not want to escape, so Alondra goes home by herself. When she arrives home, both her father and aunt are awake and they are surprised to see her. She tells her dad she wants to stay with him and not return to the boarding school. Loretto doesn't approve, but Baldomero says that he never agreed to send his daughter to the boarding school in the first place, and that she should only worry about raising her kids, while he raises his. He decides to send Alondra to a regular school in the village, while Maria Elisa stays in the boarding school.

At the age of 14, Maria Elisa comes home for vacation. Alondra is very happy, as she misses her cousin. She invites her to go bicycle riding with her. While Loretto is gossiping with a friend of hers in the street, they see the two girls riding bicycles, and Loretto gets very angry. Maria Elisa falls from the bicycle when she sees her mother's angry face. Loretto scolds her and insults Alondra.

7 or 8 years later, Alondra (Ana Colchero) is now a beautiful grown woman. She tells her father she wants to go to college, and her father accepts. Rigoberto (Juan Manuel Bernal) is in the seminary. He is smoking and drinking in front of other seminarists, who watch him, horrorized. Alondra goes to sign in at the university. Her and another girl, Rebecca (Katie Barbieri) are the only girls in the class. The other boys in the class all stare at the two girls with curiosity. They meet later and all become friends. At home, Aunt Loretto insults her because she is a free spirit who studies and wears flirty clothes. She tries to slap her but Alondra defends herself. Rigoberto gets kicked out of the seminary, because one of his roommates told the high priest that he was smoking and drinking and continuously breaking the rules. He goes to parties and spends the money that his uncle Baldomero sent him for his studies. But Baldomero does not know that Rigoberto is not spending the money he sends him on school.

Maria Elisa (Veronica Merchant) comes home for vacation. Her first night back at home, she confesses to Alondra that she doesn't want to go back to the convent after her vacation is over. Alondra is happy with that news, but the girls worry about the reaction of Loretto when she finds out.

Leticia del Bosque (Marga Lopez) is a famous vedette who has just returned to San Miguel from Mexico City because she has decided to retire. She goes to the house that belonged to her grandmother. Her assistant, Maty (Amparo Arozmena) is glad to see her. Together, they take the sheets off of the furniture. They discuss Leticia's life and what she will do before she dies in six months. Leticia has cancer.

Maria Eliza and her mother discuss her life at the convent and Maria Eliza asks her mother what it is like to have a boyfriend. Loretto acts as if it is a sin.

Librada (Angelina Pelaez), the maid at Alondra's house, wakes Alondra up in the morning. Alondra tells her that she does not like the way Loretto treats her and that she misses her father when he goes to the hacienda.

At church, Loretto talks with Father Gervasio (Hector Gomez). She thinks that Alondra will be a bad influence on her during the months that she will be off on vacation. Father Gervasio disagrees with her and says that there is nothing wrong with Alondra. He wants to speak to Maria Elisa himself.

Alondra and Baldomero have breakfast, and Alondra tells him about three guys at school who have a crush on her: German, Ramon, and Rolando. Loretto comes into the dining room, interrupting them. Once again, as she has been doing for years, she calls Alondra "Maria Alondra", saying that a woman cannot have a name of a bird without having a Christian name. Alondra corrects her aunt and asks her not to call her "Maria Alondra" anymore, because it is not her name. Maria Elisa comes to breakfast and Baldomero leaves for the office. Alondra and Loretto get into an argument. Alondra asks Loretto why she hates her so much. Loretto says because Alondra is a "loose woman", a libertine, just like her mother. Alondra gets very upset and runs to her father's office to tell him what just happened. Loretto is scared of how Baldomero will react.

Leticia and Maty discuss Leticia's three late husbands, who all died. Maty suggests that Leticia find a new man in her life.

Baldomero and his assistant, Jorge (Justo Martinez) are in their office. Alondra comes in, crying. She tells her father what Loretto said about her mother.

Loretto talks to Maria Elisa about Veronica and says that she was an actress in the theater, and that her (Loretto's) parents were not pleased about Baldomero marrying Veronica. He got her to leave the theater when they married, but she still came down with tuberculosis, because all of those nights of staying up late and working were bad for her lungs. She talks bad about Veronica.

Baldomero tells Alondra the story of how he and Veronica met, and how she died.

Maria Elisa is waiting for Alondra and Baldomero to come home. She is worried that he will kick her and Loretto out of the house. Loretto tells Maria Elisa to go to her room. She waits impatiently for her brother to come home and scold her. Very angry, Baldomero comes home and finds Loretto on the balcony and screams at her for what she said to Alondra. He tells her that she has no right to talk about Veronica, who was a virgin when she married Baldomero, while she (Loretto) gave birth to Rigoberto after she was only 7 months married! He gives her one last oportunity to change her attitude or she will leave the house forever.

Alondra, Rebecca, and their friends German, Rolando, Ramon, and Jesus are at college, chatting. Maria Elisa tells Father Gervasio about her decision to not return to the convent. Later, while Maria Elisa is reading the bible, she meets Raul (Fernando Colunga), a soldier. Loretto is in the office with the priest, asking his help to separate Maria Elisa from the bad influence of Alondra. Father Gervasio refuses.

On the way home, Maria Elisa brings up the boyfriend subject again. Loretto tells her not to talk to any men because their mouths are filled with sin. (???)

Rigoberto lives in Mexico City with a prostitute. They are having fun together.

Alondra asks Maria Elisa if she would like to go ride bicycles with her and her friends. Maria Elisa refuses because her mother won't let her. She tells Alondra about the soldier she met and her mother's reaction when she mentioned the subject about boyfriends. When Loretto enters the bedroom, both girls get quiet. Maria Elisa asks her mother if she can go bicycle riding and Loretto refuses.

Baldomero meets Rebecca while she and Alondra are studying in the dining room.

Maria Elisa is teaching a Bible study class for children in the church. Raul comes in and sits with the kids, surprising Maria Elisa and making her nervous.

Baldomero tells Alondra that he needs to take another trip to the hacienda. She becomes sad with this news.

While Maria Elisa is talking with Raul, she sees her mother enter the chapel. Raul pretends to be the father of a little girl in the class, and then he leaves. After a short conversation with Maria Elisa, Loretto also leaves.

Rigoberto, in the presence of his lover Celia (Lourdes Deschamps), writes a letter to his mother so that she will send him money. In the letter, he says he needs the money because he will be going on a missionary trip to help people with leprosy.

Loretto tells Maria Elisa that her friends are jealous of her because she has a daughter who is going to become a nun and a son who will soon be a priest. Maria Elisa doesn?t tell her mother that she will not go back to the convent.

Loretto?s three friends talk about how Alondra has a free spirit and how Maria Elisa is always alone. One of the ladies, Eduviges, says she likes Alondra better because she is always cheerful, and Maria Elisa is sad and dominated by her mother.

In the kitchen, Librada tells Loretto that Baldomero went to the hacienda, and that Alondra is with her male friends, riding bicycles. Loretto wishes silently that Alondra would leave the house.

Alondra and German (Joel Nuñez) are riding on a double bicycle in the plaza, with their other friends riding beside them. After riding around the plaza, they take a break. German tries to kiss Alondra. She gets mad and pushes him, then walks away. He asks her to forgive him, and she does but makes him promise that he never attempt that again. Alondra?s friends tell her about the serenade that will take place tonight. Since her aunt always goes, she thinks that there won?t be any problem with her and Maria Elisa going.

Later that evening, in the bedroom, Maria Elisa and Alondra discuss the serenade, and plan to ask Loretto at dinner.

At dinner, Loretto says that she will not go to the serenade because she twisted her ankle, and does not give permission for the girls to go either.

Maty brings Leticia some tea before going to bed. Lety wants to go to the serenade, but Maty thinks that the cold night air will be bad for her health, since Lety has cancer. But Lety plans to go to the serenade with her dog after Maty has gone to bed.

Alondra and Maria Elisa plan to escape through the window to attend the serenade. Meanwhile, at Loretto?s friend Trini?s (Dina de Marco) house, her three fat daughters are getting ready to go to the serenade also. Eduviges and her daughter Sagrario are visiting with them. German, Rolando, and Ramon are at the plaza, waiting for Alondra. They meet with this old man, Don Pablo Miranda, who has been married and widowed three times, and is now looking to get married a fourth time. Alondra and Maria Elisa escape from their window by going down a thick rope. They go to the plaza.

At the plaza, German, Rolando, and Ramon see the three fat girls. They comment on how the girls are ditzy, and since they don?t want the girls to go over and talk to them, they concentrate on the sky. The three girls see them looking at the sky, and they also look at the sky, to see what is so fascinating. While the girls are concentrating on the sky, the guys leave.

A mother walks her son to the plaza. She tells him that she met his father at a serenade like this one, and her son says that he doesn?t remember his father because he died when he was very young. The mother wants her son to go talk to a girl, but he says that all the girls have boyfriends. She wants to introduce him to Trini?s daughters, but he doesn?t want to. She takes him over to the girls anyway, and they introduce themselves. After she leaves, he asks one of the girls, Berta (Gabriela Murray) to take a walk around the plaza with him.

Alondra and Maria Elisa meet with Loretto?s three friends in the plaza. They tell the ladies that Loretto is around, sitting at her favorite bench. Later, the girls go find Alondra?s friends. She introduces them to Maria Elisa. Then they start dancing, and other couples follow them. The 3 gossipy ladies talk about how all of their children are dancing. During a break, Maria Elisa and Rolando sit down on a bench to talk. Raul sees Maria Elisa and goes over to talk to her. Rolando leaves Maria Elisa and Raul alone so they can talk.

At home, Loretto goes into the girls? rooms to see if Maria Elisa and Alondra are asleep before going to bed herself. The girls have stuffed pillows inside of their blankets to make it look as if they are asleep. Loretto leaves the room, not suspecting anything.

Rolando tells Alondra, Rebecca, and German that Maria Elisa is with a soldier. Alondra is happy for her.

At her house, Leticia is getting dressed to go to the serenade. Maty decides to go with her.

Maria Elisa and Raul take a walk together around the plaza. They talk about Maria Elisa?s mother, the convent, and how she and Alondra escaped to attend the dance. They plan to meet again in the cementary near the church.

The sound of window shutters hitting the side of the house awakens Loretto. She goes to the girls? room and sees the window opening, and the rope.

Raul and Maria Elisa are by themselves in a place where no people are around. He kisses her hands and they dance together.

Loretto becomes suspicious. She wakes up Librada and asks where Maria Elisa and Alondra are. Librada thinks they are in their room, asleep. Loretto goes into the room and takes the pillows out of the blankets, proving that the girls escaped.

One of Loretto?s friends watches Maria Elisa walking with a soldier and gossips to her other two friends about it.

Loretto goes into Librada?s room and sees Librada getting dressed to go out. Librada tells her she is going to find the girls at the plaza, but Loretto doesn?t let her. She locks her in her bedroom.

Alondra and Rebecca find Maria Elisa walking with Raul. Maria Elisa introduces them. Before leaving, Maria Elisa says good night to Raul and he kisses her hand. She leaves with the girls.

Maria Elisa tells Alondra and Rebecca where she met Raul and they plan how to get back into their house.

Trini, Eduviges, and Rosario (Loretto?s friends) see Lety at the dance and they wonder who she is. They go over to say hi to her.

Roberto (Ernesto Godoy) and Berta sit down to talk after dancing for awhile. Berta asks Roberto to be her boyfriend, but he only wants to be friends.

Alondra, Maria Elisa, and their friends are outside the patio of their house. The boys help Alondra and Maria Elisa go up to the balcony from the rope.

Lety and Maty sit down to listen to the music, which brings back pleasant memories for Lety.

Alondra and Maria Elisa sneak into their bedroom and receive and unpleasant surprise: Loretto is waiting for them. She explodes with anger and slaps Maria Elisa. Alondra screams at her to never slap Maria Elisa again, and Loretto tries to slap her, but Alondra grabs her hand. Then Loretto demands that from now on, Maria Elisa will sleep with her.

The next day, Baldomero arrives at his ranch house. Carmelina (Olivia Bucio), his housekeeper, is waiting for him. She gives him a warm welcome.

Trini and her daughters are in the girls? bedroom. Two of them are jealous of Berta because she has a ?boyfriend? supposedly.

Lety tells Maty she wants to go to church, but with her dog Fifi. Maty says that she should leave the dog home because animals are not allowed at mass. Lety refuses and says she will listen to mass outside of the church since Fifi can?t go in.

Maria Elisa goes into Alondra?s room and they talk about last night. Loretto comes in and asks Maria Elisa what she is doing in Alondra?s room. They leave for church. Alondra says she will join them for the mass, after she gets dressed. Maria Elisa and Loretto are going early, to confess.

Page 1 Don Pablo Miranda sees Maria Elisa and Loretto in the street on their way to church. He stops to talk to them and becomes enthused with Maria Elisa.

On her way to church, Alondra sees Fifi, who has escaped from Lety. She wonders who the dog belongs to, then Lety comes over to her to retrieve her dog. They start chatting and Lety tells Alondra that she worked in the theatre. Alondra asks if she knew her mother, who was an actress in the theatre. Lety responds that of course she knew her.

Before mass starts, Maria Elisa confesses to Father Gervasio about her feelings for Raul and the way her mother feels about her having a boyfriend.

Leticia and Alondra are still talking. They agree to get together at Lety?s house to talk abuout Alondra?s mother Veronica.

At mass, Loretto and Maria Elisa are seated in the front row. Raul is sitting a few rows back, and Maria Elisa keeps turning around to look at him. Alondra arrives, and Maria Elisa and Raul continue exchanging glances.

Two older guys, Pedro and Jacinto Alatorre (Alejandro Villeli) are in the dining room of one of the two, talking about how great it is to be single. Jacinto tells Pedro that he is going with a younger girl in Mexico city and that he will never get married because he loves having different girls all the time.

After mass, in the road outside of church, German, Ramon, and Rolando talk about Alondra, Maria Elisa, and Loretto. They joke that Loretto is a complete witch. One of them says that all she needs to be a complete witch is a broom. (LOL!)

Perdo and Jacinto meet with Lety and her dog out in the plaza. Apparently, they are friends of Lety and know her because they always go to Mexico City, to see her perform.

German, Ramon, and Rolando invite Loretto and the girls to have ice cream with them. Loretto refuses, but Alondra and Maria Elisa accept. Loretto becomes furious as the girls leave her standing alone.

Roberto?s mother (Queta Lavat) encourages her son to go talk to the three fat girls. At first, he doesn?t want to, but he ends up inviting all three of them to have an ice cream with him in the plaza. After they leave, Loretto goes over to talk to Trini, Eduviges, and Rosario. They ask her if she was at the serenade last night, and she says that she didn?t go because she twisted her ankle. They also mention the big formal ballroom dance that is coming up.

Maria Elisa, Alondra, and their three male friends are having an ice cream in the plaza. At the table next to them, Leticia sits with Pedro and Jacinto. Alondra notices Lety and tells her cousin and friends that she was a vedette in the theatre. After Pedro and Jacinto leave, Alondra goes over to say hi to Lety.

At home, Loretto is looking at the mail and finds an invitacion to the formal dance--- addressed to Baldomero. Loretto plans to hide the invitation and not let Alondra know about the dance at all.

At the plaza, while Roberto and Bertha talk? the other two sisters consume four ice creams (!!) Roberto doesn?t have enough money to pay for all of those ice creams.

At the hacienda, Baldomero tells one of his maids, Rita (Aurora Molina), that Carmelina is now in charge of the hacienda.

Maria Elisa and Alondra leave the table where they were sitting with their friends for a moment. Roberto goes over to German, Ramon, and Rolando and asks them to borrow some money because he spent it all on the fat girls. Ramon gives him money and Roberto promises to pay him back immediately. When he leaves, the other three laugh at him.

Baldomero asks Carmelina where the painting of his late wife Veronica is. Carmelina says she took it down because Veronica is beautiful and she is not. Because Veronica was his wife and she is not. Baldomero assures Carmelina that he loves her the way she is, but that they cannot get married until Alondra gets married.

Loretto?s revenge begins. She hides the invitation from Alondra and plans on making all the preparations for Maria Elisa to attend the dance without Alondra knowing.

Loretto decides to hide the invitation to the dance from Alondra.

Rigoberto and his lover, Celia, get into an argument because they have run out of money and are hungry. Rigoberto decides to return home and ask his mother for money. He will tell her he is taking a long vacation from the seminary.

Loretto treats Alondra coldly and cruelly. She tries as much as possible to keep Maria Elisa away from Alondra so that she will not find out about the dance.

Alondra asks Librada if the invitation to the dance has arrived yet. In her bedroom, Loretto and Maria Elisa are discussing the dance. Loretto is looking at the invitation and she makes Maria Eliza promise her that she will not mention the dance at all to Alondra, because if she does, she will not be allowed to go. Maria Elisa does not want to do it, but she is afraid her mother won?t let her attend the dance.

Alondra suspectas that Loretto is up to something because they leave the house every day without telling her where they are going. She asks Librada if she knows where her aunt and cousin go every day, but Librada thinks that they are going to church. She finds a letter addressed to Alondra?s father, and Alondra, thinking it is the invitation to the dance, opens it. But it turns out to be a letter from the priest at the seminary, about Rigoberto?s expulsion.

Maria Elisa tells Father Gervasio about her problems with her overdominating mother and how she treats Alondra.

Outside of church, Maria Elisa informs her mother that she will not be returning to the convent. Loretto becomes very upset with the news and immediately blames Alondra. Maria Elisa explains that Alondra has nothing to do with it.

Alondra and Rebecca are at the plaza after class. Rebecca confesses that she is in love with Rolando, but doesn?t know how to tell him. After their conversation, Alondra decides to go to Leticia?s house.

In the kitchen, Maria Elisa says to Librada that she won?t return to the convent because she is in love.

Maty gives Lety her medicines, when Alondra arrives.

Don Pablo comes to visit Loretto at her house. Loretto is lying down but once Librada tells her that Don Pablo is at the door, she decides to go into the living room to receive him. Before going, she says to herself that if Maria Elisa won?t return to the convent, she will get married--- to Don Pablo.

At his house, Roberto tells his mother how embarrassed he is that he had to borrow money from Ramon to pay for all of the ice cream that the three fat sisters ordered. He complains that they eat too much, and his mother asks him who is his favorite. He replies that neither of the three, then his mother gives him money to pay Ramon back.

Berta and her sisters, Tota and Tita are in their room. These last two are lying on their beds, complaining about how much their stomach hurts. Their mother comes in and asks why, and they tell her that they not only consumed four ice creams, but later they went out with Don Pablo and had more food!! Trini gives all three of them medicine for their stomachache, even Berta, who didn?t eat as much as the other two.

At Letty?s house, Alondra tells her about her classes, about how her mother died and her father goes often to his ranch, and how her aunt Loretto treats her.

Loretto receives Don Pablo in the living room of her house. Pablo tells her how impressed he is with Maria Elisa. He wants to take her to the ballroom dance. Loretto agrees to let the old millionaire be her daughter?s escort at the dance.

Lety takes Alondta to her bedroom and shows her some old articles and clippings from newspapers that have Alondra?s mother in them. Alondra is impressed.

Raul and Maria Elisa are at their secret meeting place. Maria Elisa tells Raul about her problems with her mother. She tells him about the dance, and he says that he will find a way to come and to be with her without anyone knowing. He tries to kiss her, but she turns her head, so he kisses her hands, like a respectable gentleman.

Before leaving, Alondra tells Lety about the letter that the priest sent her father. She worries how her aunt will take the news that Rigoberto was kicked out of the seminary.

Loretto goes to her room after Pablo leaves. Librada laughs to herself because she now knows that the son that Loretto is so proud of will not be a priest. Alondra comes home and tells Librada that she will bring Loretto her medicines. She goes to Loretto?s room with the medicines and gives her the letter. Loretto becomes shocked when she reads it. She gets upset and tells Alondra to leave her alone in her room.

Roberto and the fat girls are playing a board game in the dining room of the girls? house. Trini comes in and tells the girls that their dresses for the dance are ready. She invites Roberto to stay and see the dresses.

Maria Elisa comes home. They finally get a chance to talk. Alondra tells Maria Elisa about Rigoberto?s expulsion from the seminary.

Roberto sees the sisters in their dresses. He becomes speechless and although he doesn?t say anything, it is apparent that he does not like the dresses. Tota says she chose green for hope. Roberto says she looks like a Serrano chile pepper. Tita says she chose purple for peace, but Roberto tells her that she looks more like a huge purple onion. Berta says seductively that her dress is red, representing blood and passion, and she tries to kiss him, but he breaks away and says that she looks more like a big tomato. (hahahahahaha!!!)

Maria Elisa tells Alondra that during all these days that Loretto wouldn?t let the two girls talk, they were secretly making preparations for the dance, and asks Alondra to forgive her for not telling her. Alondra tells her cousin that she forgives her, because it wasn?t her fault. She is disappointed that she won?t be able to go to the dance and wishes that Maria Elisa have fun.

At his ranch house, Baldomero and Carmelina discuss the situation between Loretto and Alondra.

Loretto tells Maria Elisa that Don Pablo Miranda will be her ?date? at the dance. Maria Elisa is not pleased at all with this news.

Alondra tells Lety sadly that she wants to go to the dance, but will not be able to because it is too late to get a dress. Leticia says she will give her one of her dresses to wear to the dance.

Trini, Eduviges, Rosario, and Petra are at Loretto?s house. They are curious to know who Lety is, and since she looks to be a very wealthy woman, they want to ask her if she would like to participate in the fundraiser that their charity is holding. They decide to go to Lety?s house and ask her. Meanwhile, Leticia is with Alondra. Maty tells her that the members of a charity fund are at her house. Alondra tells Lety that surely her aunt is in that bunch, because she is the president of the charity. Lety becomes curious to meet Loretto. She tells Alondra to wait for her while she attends the ladies. While they are waiting for her, the ladies look at a risqué painting on Lety?s living room wall. She enters the room in her house robe. She scandalizes the four women, smoking her cigarette in front of them, telling them that she lived a ?torrid romance with three men?, and when they ask her if she would like to participate in the fundraiser, she said that she could raise a lot of money because many men would come to the event to see her perform. She tells the ladies that she is a vedette. The ladies are shocked and horrified. Lety tells them that they are a bunch of religious, sanctimonious women and asks them to leave. They leave, scandalized. Lety goes back into the room where Alondra is and tells Alondra and Maty what happened. Maty reminds her that she did not just live a romance with three men, that she was married three times. Alondra asks if she ever had children, and Lety said that although God did not grant her children, she considers Alondra is like a daughter to her.

The night of the dance, everyone is getting ready. The three sisters are putting on their dresses. Eduviges helps her daughter Sagrario get ready. She suggests that Sagrario wear a flower in her hair or something to make her look less serious. Sagrario says that she does not want to look ridiculous like Trini's daughters. Roberto's mother is dressed and watches as her son gets ready. He says that he is not looking forward to dancing with "the three vegetables", as he now calls them. Trini comes into her daughters' rooms and sees that two are dressed the other is not. She scolds them for switching the ribbons on their shoes. Roberto's mother suggests that he dances with other girls: Sagrario, Maria Elisa, or Alondra. He says that Sagrario is too serious, Maria Elisa is going to become a nun and has a frightening mother, and that Alondra probably will be dancing with her friends from school.

Rigoberto and Loretto are in Loretto's room. He wants to take Alondra to the dance, but Loreto says that no one is supposed to know that he is not a seminarist yet, and that he should stay at home to avoid gossip from the townspeople. Rigoberto goes into Alondra's room anyway, and asks her if he can take her to the dance. She refuses. He then goes into the living room, where Don Pablo is waiting. Loretto finds Maria Elisa getting ready for the dance in the bathroom. Before going into the living room, Maria Elisa goes to Alondra's room. Alondra tells her that she will stay at home and study all night. She does not say that Lety is helping her to go to the dance, and tells Maria Elisa to have fun.

Rigoberto and Don Pablo discuss finances in the living room. Don Pablo tells Rigoberto that he wants to marry Maria Elisa immediately, and that she will inherit his whole fortune when he dies.

Lety says to Maty that some male friends will come over tonight to hear her sing and dance. She asks her to help her select a dress.

Loretto and Maria Elise go into the living room to meet with Don Pablo. Rigo is still there. Don Pablo compliments her on how beautiful she looks in her pink dress, then they leave for the dance together. Rigoberto laughs to himself and goes upstairs to see Alondra. She is getting ready to go out, and tells her cousin that she is going to go study with a friend. He tries to kiss her, but she slaps him and tries to leave. He blocks the door. They argue, and she pushes him and leaves. He runs after her, but slips on a rug and falls. By the time he gets up, Alondra has already gone.

Leticia sings to an audience of six men in her parlor. They have their own little party with champagne. Maty receives Alondra and takes her into another room to get dressed for the dance. Lety leaves the guys for awhile to help Alondra. When Alondra tells her that she has no one to take her to the dance, Lety says she will ask one of her friends who are in the parlor. After Alondra is dressed beautifully and elegantly, Leticia presents her to her friends. One of them, Jacinto, offers to take her to the dance.

At the dance, the announcer at the door does formal presentations of all of the people who arrive. Maria Elisa and Loretto; Roberto and his mother; Trini and her daughters; then Don Pablo arrives.

The first dance of the night begins. Trini's daughters find Roberto sitting with his mother at the table. He chooses to dance with Berta first. Loretto pushes Maria Elisa to dance with Don Pablo. When they leave, the two girls become excited that they will be alone.

Ramon, German, and Rolando are looking around the salon for Alondra. Finally, they see her and Maira Elisa. German asks Alondra to dance and Ramon goes with Maria Elisa. When Maria Elisa sees Raul on the other side of the room, she excuses herself and tells Ramon that her boyfriend has arrived. She goes over to talk to him.

He thanks his mother for giving him such good advice and becomes excited with the thought of dancing with Alondra.

In the parlor, Don Pablo tells Loretto that they should leave early because he is tired. Loretto agrees.

Roberto asks Alondra to dance, taking her from Ramon. While Alondra and Roberto are dancing, Maria Elisa and Raul sneak out to the balcony to talk. After Alondra has danced with Roberto for awhile, German interrumpts them. (Too bad, those two were the best dancers in the whole room. :-) ) Roberto is not very happy that German interrupted his dance with Alondra. Outside, Maria Elisa and Raul share a romantic kiss. He tells her that he has to return soon to Mexico City. He wants to meet her mother to ask her hand in marriage. Maria Elisa wants to get married with him immediately, but Raul convinces her to wait two months until he comes back, because he is poor and has nothing to offer her.

Loretto and Don Pablo return to the dance. Don Pablo sits down to wait for Maria Elisa while Loretto goes to look for her. Rolando interrupts German to dance with Alondra. Trini and Eduviges observe the dancers and discuss the different couples on the dance floor. Loretto goes over to them to ask where Maria Elisa is. Trini disapproves of the way Loretto treats her daughter, and of the way she treats Alondra as well. Eduviges agrees with Trini. Loretto thinks they are just jealous because their daughters are not marrying Don Pablo (yeah right! who wants to marry that old man? ) Loretto leaves them and pushes various people on the dance floor out of the way to get to Alondra. She demands to know where Maria Elisa is.

Raul and Maria Elisa are still out on the balcony together. He wants to meet her mother before leaving the dance, but Maria Elisa thinks it?s better to wait until he returns. He promises to return in two months. Alondra comes outside to inform her cousin that her mother is looking for her. Raul leaves, and Loretto comes outside. She tells Maria Elisa that they are going to leave soon, because Don Pablo is not feeling well. Alondra returns to the dance, and alternates with German, Ramon, Rolando, and Roberto. Maria Elisa wants to go inform Alondra that she is leaving, but Loretto won?t let her. Alondra is a little tired from dancing and wants something to drink. German, Ramon, and Rolando all offer to get her a drink. She goes to the window and sees that it is starting to rain outside. Maria Elisa calls Alondra's name but she does not hear, and Loretto refuses to let her go tell Alondra they are leaving. Don Jacinto gives Alondra a glass of champagne, even though Alondra has never drank alcohol before, and invites her to sit down with him at his table. Roberto, completely worn out, goes to sit on the sofa with his mother. They decide that it is time to get ready to leave. German and the guys, with drinks in their hands for Alondra, look around the ballroom for her, but they do not see her. Roberto and his mother are about to go home, when the three big girls see them leaving and convince Roberto to stay a little while longer. They tell his mother that they will bring him home. His mother leaves, and he stays. Don Jacinto makes conversation with Alondra, and she talks about school and her father.

At Baldomero's hacienda, he and Jorge are talking about how dangerous the rivers and waters are during this season, and that it is bad to travel right now.

Jacinto offers Alondra more champagne, but she refuses. She wants to go look for her aunt and cousin. He convinces Alondra to finish her drink first.

Jorge tells Baldomero that at these moments, Alondra must be at the dance, and that the whole village has been talking about nothing else lately. Baldomero hopes that she will meet a good man and get married soon.

Maria Elisa and Loretto arrive home. Loretto tells her daughter that whether she likes it or not, she is going to marry Don Pablo Miranda. Maria Elisa is disgusted.

Trini and Eduviges talk about their children, and how great it is to see them all dancing. Alondra goes over to them to ask if they have seen her aunt and Maria Elisa. The ladies tell her that they left without telling her. Alondra becomes upset. Trini offers to take her home, but Alondra sadly refuses, and walks away. The ladies feel sorry for her, and say that if anything bad happens to her, it will be all Loretto's fault.

Maria Elisa discusses her engagement to Don Pablo with Rigoberto. He agrees with Loretto?s plans to marry her to that old man.

Alondra returns to Don Jacinto's table. She wants to go home. He convinces her to finish the champagne first, and then, Alondra leaves with him. Roberto collapses at Trini's table. Rolando and Jesus take him to the parlor. When he regains consciousness, he accuses the three fat girls of trying to kill him by dancing him to death.

Rigoberto waits in the living room for Alondra to go home. Loretto tries to convince him to go to sleep.

Roberto is not feeling well and they bring him some juice and water to drink. His mother has already gone home. Berta brings a doctor to check him out. The doctor says that he needs to rest for a few days. Berta goes and brings him another glass of orange juice.

Don Jacinto is in his carriage with Alondra, on the way to her house. She has a headache and wants to sleep.

Loretto and Rigoberto talk about how much they hate Alondra. Rigoberto wants to wait until she comes home, so that he can scold her for being late. Loretto is tired and decides to go to sleep.

Leticia says to Maty that she trusts Jacinto and is glad that she asked him to take Alondra to the dance. Jacinto helps Alondra out of the carriage.

Maria Elisa is in her bed, worried about Alondra. Loretto tells her to not worry, that Alondra probably went to some man's house after the dance. Maria Elisa doesn't believe her.

Jacinto takes Alondra to his house, instead of hers. He pours an alcoholic beverange into two glasses. Alondra is scared and wants to go home. She realizes that he tricked her. He tells her that she shouldn't try to act all innocent, when she is not, because a friend of Leticia del Bosque cannot be innocent. Alondra does not understand what he is trying to say, so he grabs her and tries to rape her. They fight and she pushes him. He falls and hits his head on something and becomes unconscious. Alondra tries to escape, but all of the doors and windows are locked. Finally, she finds an open window in the bathroom. She runs through the woods, and sees a little cart. She asks the cart driver to take her home. He knows her.

At the ranch house, Baldomero has indigestion and cannot sleep. While preparing some seltzer water, he expresses his worries about Alondra to Carmelina, who is sleeping with him.

At 3 am, Rigoberto is still awake, waiting for Alondra in the living room. When she arrives, she knocks the door. It is raining very hard. Rigoberto goes outside and does not let Alondra into HER OWN HOUSE! (Some Ex-Seminarist!) He closes the door on her and goes back inside. Alondra is outside, still knocking the door and crying. Maria Elisa hears all the commotion and tries to make Rigoberto let Alondra in. He hits her and tells her to go back to sleep. Loretto comes into the room and sends Maria Elisa to her bedroom. She orders Rigoberto to open the door for Alondra. He does reluctantly, but it's too late, because Alondra is not out there. Loretto sends him to go look for her, out in the rain.

Roberto is in his bed, talking to his mother who is beside him. He has now come down with a cold. He and his mother discuss what happened at the dance, and he says that he does not want to see the three girls?his three killers--- anymore because they completely wore him out at the dance.

Alondra runs through the streets of the village in the rain, until she reaches Leticia's house. Leticia awakens when she hears someone knocking at her door. She and Maty think it might be one of Lety?s friends wanting to continue the party they had earlier, and tells Maty to run whoever it is out. Maty answers the door and it is Alondra, soaking wet and crying. She tells Lety and Maty what happened, about Loretto abandoning her at the dance, and how Rigoberto did not let her enter her own house. Leticia becomes very angry at Loretto and Rigoberto.

Rigoberto comes home after having went to search for Alondra and tells Loretto that he did not find her anywhere. Maria Elisa gets upset at her mother and brother for not letting Alondra enter her own house. Loretto tells her to go back to bed. After she is gone, Rigoberto says to his mother that this whole incident may be beneficial to his plans. When Maria Elisa marries Don Pablo, they will no longer have to depend on Alondra's father, and will be able to enjoy Don Pablo's fortune instead.

Lety allows Alondra to stay the night at her house. Alondra is grateful to her.

Trini discusses with her daughters that Loretto didn't tell Alondra about the dance and how she later left Alondra there without telling her she was leaving. They feel bad for Alondra. They also talk about how Loretto manipulates Maria Elisa. Berta mentions that she is worried about Roberto, because he got sick at the dance.

Lety suggests that instead of waiting until Baldomero comes home from the hacienda, Alondra should go there and tell him everything that has been going on in his abscense. Alondra decides to take her advice and go.

The next morning, Maria Elisa expresses her worries about what happened to Alondra to her mother, and Loretto pretends to not be concerned. But deep down inside, she is very worried that Alondra will go find her father and tell him everything. She and Maria Elisa then leave for church.

Leticia and Alondra leave for the train station. First, Leticia goes to Baldomero's office. She asks for Baldomero and Jorge, and another worker explains that they have both went to the hacienda "El Mortero", and tells her how to get there.

Loretto asks Rigoberto to keep searching for Alondra. Maria Elisa confesses to Father Gervasio all of her worries about the incidents that occurred last night.

Leticia says goodbye to Alondra as she boards the train.

Baldomero and Carmelina are enjoying their time together at the ranch.

Alondra is inside the train. During the first stop, a mysterious man buys a ticket to a town called Oyuelos. He gets on the train and there is no room for him to sit. He puts his suitcase on a shelf and convinces a man who is sitting next to a bunch of bird cages to sit with the cages in his lap. Alondra is sitting across from him. He watches her sleep.

Loretto and Maria Elisa decide to go to Trini's house to ask for Alondra, while Rigoberto decides to go to Baldomero's office.

While Alondra is sleeping, the train stops, and both the mysterious man and the other man with the bird cages get off. The mysterious man?s name is Bruno, and he meets with his friend Ramiro. Meanwhile, inside of the train, the cries of a baby awaken Alondra. She asks two ladies sitting next to her when they will arrive at Oyuelos, and the ladies tell her that she just missed the stop, because that's where they got on the train. She gathers her belongings and stops at the next station, at Trinidad. At that station, a man informs her that the only way for her to get to the hacienda "El Mortero" is by horse. Alondra has never ridden a horse before. The guy suggests that his little brother be Alondra?s guide. She accepts reluctantly.

Maria Elisa and her mother visit Trini. Loretto asks if she knows anything about Alondra. Trini tells Loretto that she hopes Alondra did not leave the dance with the man who brought her, Jacinto Alatorre.

The men at Trinidad help Alondra get on the horse and the give her a saddle.

Trini scolds Loretto for her selfish attitude towards Alondra. When Loretto and Maria Elisa leave, Trini's daughters comment that they feel sorry for Maria Elisa for having a mother like Loretto.

Maria Elisa tells the doctor that the baby's father is not Pablo Miranda--- but a young soldier Raul. The doctor says that he figured that Don Pablo could not be the father.

Bruno checks out of the hotel, ready to go to the train station.

The doctor tells Loretto, Rigoberto, and Alondra that Maria Elisa will be fine in a few days, but she needs to rest a lot. Alondra follows the doctor to the door. He tells her that the family needs to give her all their support and understanding. Alondra says that she does support and understand her cousin, unlike the others.

Bruno waits for Alondra at the train station.

Loretto is with Maria Elisa when Alondra comes in. Loretto asks for Alondra's forgiveness again, and Alondra forgives her. But she wants to be alone a few minutes with Maria Elisa. Loretto leaves the room, crying. Maria Elisa is asleep because the doctor gave her a tranquilizer. So Alondra watches her sadly, then says goodbye to her.

At the train station, Bruno buys two tickets.

Alondra continues to fix her suitcases in her room, with Librada's help. She is running late to meet Bruno. Loretto begs Alondra not to leave. Alondra says that it is time for her to search for her own happiness, and asks Loretto and Rigoberto to take care of Maria Elisa, then she leaves. On her way to the station, she finds the farmer who brought her home the night of the dance and asks him to take her to the station, but to hurry because she is late.

The train arrives and Alondra is still not at the station. Bruno looks around, disappointed. Finally, he boards the train after he has lost hope that she will come. As the train pulls away, Alondra arrives at the station, but it is too late. Bruno is already leaving. She cries and screams his name in despair.
