Danny the Bunny’s Story

Danny the Bunny first appeared in the ‘Prisonera’ forum (you can do a search for "Danny the Bunny" to read all of his exploits there). Mauricio Islas (Fernando Leyra in ‘Amores’) played Daniel Moncada, who gave young Libertad Salvatierra (Genesis Rodriguez) a pet bunny rabbit, which the love-struck teen promptly named after him, Danny the Bunny. The bunny disappeared from the show for several months causing fans to ask "What happened to Danny the Bunny?" This led to a brief series on Telemundo chronicling his adventures (“Pasiones del Conejito”) culminating in his untimely death. Actually, he was fricasseed and eaten by one of the series writers.

Danny the Bunny - he died for our sins, sniff!

But Danny’s fans were unrelenting. “Say it’s not so!,” they cried. Could poor Danny have truly become merely a tasty morsel? The fans demanded to see more of Danny the Bunny, and finally in the ‘El Mujer en el Espejo’ forum it was revealed that Danny the Bunny had a mirror image double, Ynnub eht Ynnad (that’s Danny the Bunny backwards). Fans got to see Danny (or at least his double) using Paola Rey’s (Lucia in ‘Amores’, see how this all ties in?) magic mirror to escape from the evil Barbara, using the mirror as a portal to enter Kamal’s General Store in ‘Los Plateados.’

Still fans were not satisfied. They insisted on the return of the “real” Danny the Bunny, not some carbon copy! While novella writers routinely bring characters back from the dead, few writers have faced the difficulty of resurrecting a character who has been fricasseed and eaten! However, the opportunity arose (no pun intended) when Telemundo aired ‘El Cuerpo del Deseo,’ the tale of a dead man reincarnated in the body of another (Salvador Cerenza). By an amazing coincidence, at the same time Jose Donoso woke up to find himself in the body of Mario Cimarro’s Salvador Cerenza, Danny the Bunny awoke to discover he had been reincarnated in the body of Salvador the Skunk!

The Return of Danny the Bunny

“Can I keep him, Mom? Please?,” Adrian begged his mother Lucia.

“But Adrian,” Lucia began, “why would you want to keep that ugly skunk as a pet?”

Danny the Bunny cringed. He wanted to shout out that he was not an ugly skunk, that he was a rather handsome (and at one time quite prolific) rabbit, that he was merely trapped in the body of a skunk and… wait – Danny realized that he recognized this “Lucia” woman. While he had been an incorporeal spirit he had seen this same woman using a magic mirror. Instinctively, Danny the Bunny knew that if he could find this mirror he could be restored to his true form. He knew he had to convince Lucia to allow him to become the new family pet! He gazed at Lucia with pleading skunk eyes.

“Adrian, tell me, why on earth would you want a skunk as a pet?”

“Please, Mom!,” Adrian begged. “My father’s been missing for five years and he reminds me of him so much! Other kids have fathers; can’t I at least have a pet skunk?”

Lucia looked at the skunk. She did indeed notice a resemblance to her missing husband Fernando. She had to admit the little fellow even smelled a bit like Fernando. “Muy bien, chico, you can keep him. But you have to feed him.”

“Gracias, Mama, I will!,” Adrian replied excitedly cuddling Danny the Bunny. “I think I’ll name him ‘Fernandito.’” Danny the Bunny winced at the name but realized he was one step closer to returning to his true form…

Telenovela-World: Did even Danny the Bunny bail on this fiasco ? Author: ChicagoBill (---) Date: 10-26-06 20:28 PDT It has been a six weeks since I stopped watching, and I can't say I have missed it. But last night, if I'm not mistaken, Danny the Bunny was on an episode of Lost. If that was him, he is a damn versitile actor. I, for one truly believed it when he played dead. But I was also relieved when he sprang back to life later in the show. Quite a step up. I am looking forward to a flashback episode with Danny (as long as they don't introduce Gaby Spanic).

Sorry I haven't posted a recap of Danny the Bunny, but it's been so hard to follow the show the way Telemundo keeps changing its scheule and starting shows before and after the hour! It's especially hard with a show like Amores de Conejito, which is only 5 minutes long per episode (not counting commercials).

However, I'll try to give a brief recap of the last few episodes I did manage to catch. Adrian has named Danny the Bunny "Fernandito" after his father and is keeping him as a pet. Danny the Bunny is still trapped in the body of Salvador the Skunk. Adrian was planning to move in with his mother and Danny the Bunny was excited about moving to Lucia's house, where he could finally reach her magic mirror and hopefully recover his conejito form.

However, just as Adrian placed Danny the Bunny into a carrier cage, Adrian's girlfriend Andrea arrived and in an attempt to win her over and prove his love for her, Adrian handed her the carrier and told her it was a gift for her.

"You're giving me a skunk?," she asked.

"I want to show you how much you really mean to me," Adrian replied.

"You're giving me a skunk?," she repeated.

"This is Fernandito, the most important thing in the world to me, after my father, and my grandfather's money, I mean my grandfather. And you, of course. I did mention you, didn't I?"

Andrea looked at the skunk. She had to admit to herself that she did see the Leyra resemblance.

"Uh, thanks, Adrian. I'll treasure him," she replied. Danny the Bunny's heart sank as he realized he was now even further from the mirror that seemed so close only a few minutes earlier.

I regret to report that due to the slowdown in taping and his limited screen time during the drastically curtailed episodes, Danny the Bunny has been forced to turn to crime to secure Christmas gifts for his family!

Telemundo needs to return to full length episodes quickly!

Telenovela-World: Danny the Bunny- Gran Finale!! Author: Zecca (---) Date: 01-06-07 00:34 PST

Danny the Bunny, still trapped in the body of Salvador the Skunk, was given as a gift to Andrea by her boyfriend Adrian. But in the last episode (stretched over 22 5-minute broadcasts by Telemundo), Andrea, after discovering Adrian's true nature returned Danny the Bunny to Adrian's mother, Lucia. Remembering that the pet skunk had been a gift to Adrian from her despised ex-spouse Fernando, Lucia phoned Eulalio and asked him to come over and destroy the skunk! Just like the real Fernando, Danny the Bunny (nicknamed "Fernandito" by Adrian), was feverishly trying to escape from his cage! On Friday's episode, Eulalio arrived and removed Danny the Bunny from the cage, grasping the skunk by the neck as he told Lucia that all it would take was one snap of its neck and "Fernandito" would be no more than a lingering odor!

Has Danny the Bunny been reincarnated only to die again? Where are Eulalio's beads when they are needed? Will Danny the Bunny become another victim of bad novella writers? Will he lose his time slot? These preguntas y mas will be answered in the Gran Finale!!!

Hmmm, you read it anyway! Some people just do not take directions well.

Anyway, on Monday's Gran Finale of "Amores de Conejito":

Danny the Bunny, still trapped in the body of Salvador the Skunk, dangling by the neck, bites Eulalio's hand causing Eulalio to drop Danny the Bunny to the floor. Danny the Bunny rapidly hops across the room to Lucia's magic mirror and with one great leap enters the mirror and exits into an unfamiliar place (escaping long before the rest of the viewers).

The first thing that Danny the Bunny realizes is that he has transformed back into his own body! No longer a skunk, Danny the Bunny is now once again, un verdad conejito!!

The second thing that Danny the Bunny realizes is that he is not alone! He feels the cold steel of the blade pressed against his bunny fur. The sword is long and sharp and as he gazes upwards he sees......
