#64 - Amadeo asks Benitez if he's
using a new torture by putting a beautiful woman in front of him making him
think he's in paradise. Benitez questions Matilde as Amadeo says he's never
seen her and Garza hits him. The chief tells Matilde is she wants to avoid him
from being hit to tell the truth. He grabs her arm to look at him and she tells
him not to touch her with his dirty hands. Amadeo tells her to tell the truth
that they have never seen each other. Matilde tells Benitez she never saw him
before, that Manuel has never talked to her about him and that she hopes he
doesn't doubt her words as she smiles at Amadeo. Later Matilde tells Benitez
that his treatment of Amdeo is wrong. He tries to trick her telling her he will
help Manuel if she tells the truth. Mr. Teran tells Manuel that his wife will
be fine as Manuel says he has failed in protecting his wife when a guard arrives
and he tells him they if they hurt his wife they are dead men. Benitez tells
Manuel that Matilde confessed the truth but he tells him he doesn't believe
him. Matilde tells Father Urbano and Silvano about the condition Amadeo is in
when Humberto arrives and tells his sister he couldn't find the governor.
Manuel demands to see his wife and says Benitez pressured her but he denies it
and tells him he has not grounds to threaten him. Benitez talks to Ramon and he
tells him about the situation as he wonders if Matilde is still in the area.
Benitez returns and asks Manuel if he's ready to declare and they begin.
Humberto wonders if Benitez is setting a trap for Manuel and asks Urbano for
his help. Benitez questions Manuel and he denies knowing Amadeo. Benitez tells
Manuel he will lock him and Matilde up when Urbano with Humberto's help enters
the room and tells Manuel his wife is worried about him and how long was it
going to take to say he didn't know the man. An angry Benitez scolds the priest
and Manuel asks him what is he going to do lock up a priest and then tells him
if he has a fine to pay he'll pay it but that he's ending that dirty and nasty
investigation. Yves shows the will and a letter with Joaquin's signature to
Ramon but he says that though the signatures are different a dying man's
signature will vary a little. Manuel hugs Matilde as he thanks Humberto, Urbano
and Silvano for their help. He tells them that for a moment he thought Matilde
had told the truth but then realized it was a trick. Humberto tells him he
thought something was wrong and that's why he had the priest interrupt the
interrogation. Manuel says that Matilde is tired and they have to go home as
she says she wants to help Amadeo and Chuy overhears them. Benitez asks his
assistant to check the commerce office to see if any documents have Manuel's
name on any of them. Benitez arrives at the club and tells Yves and Ramon what
happened and Ramon has Amadeo tortured. Chuy tells Lorenzo that Matilde wants
to help Amadeo as Lorenzo says he has to do something before Amadeo is killed.
Juana tells Adolfo that Frisco told her everything without her even asking and
that he had his reasons for doing it because of Matilde and the fact that he
can't stand Benitez and Marquez. Adolfo calls Manuel a traitor and Juana tells
him that they are all the same people and that the war is unjust. Antonia
wonders if Sixto can help her with her financial situation when Damiana tells
her she saw Matilde and Manuel being escorted to the police station. Marianne
urges to get home as Matilde and Manuel arrive to their families waiting for
them. Yves and Marianne talk about the will as she tells him to return to her.
Manuel apologizes to his wife for not being able to protect her and she tells
him that she's happy to know that she can do more than tend to the home and
give him children. He tells her he loves her and that it's not only words but
that it comes deep within his soul and she tells him she fells the same way
about him as they kiss and hug their son. Marie begs Tomas not to tell Manuel
when she got home. Urbano tells Rosario that it was Humberto's idea to enter
Benitez' office as Silvano and Sixto say their opinion about Humberto is
changing to a positive one. Agusta begins to complain and her sister tells her
she's exagerrating as she tells her that she wished she would have died with
Hilario. Yves offers Benitez his help in interrogating Amadeo. Lorenzo enters
Manuel's house and takes Tomas hostage while Manuel tells Sixto he wants to
help Amadeo. At that moment Lorenzo enters with Tomas and tells him he has come
in peace. Manuel tells Tomas he can leave as Lorenzo asks him if Amadeo is
still alive. Damiana talks to Yves and then Antonia about Manuel and Matilde.
Manuel feels compassion for Amadeo and Sixto tells him to be careful. Manuel
kisses his wife goodnight as he wonders how to help Amadeo. Catalina tells
Juana she doesn't want to leave Adolfo as she becomes worse and coughs up more
blood. Amadeo is severely beaten and tortured. Adolfo returns home to learn
Catalina is getting worse and she tells him she's happy and grategul to him. He
tells her that she has done more for him than he has ever done for her. He
kisses his wife and comforts her. The next morning the doctor tells Adolfo
there's nothing more he can do and Adolfo tells the news to Juana who is

#66 - Adolfo asks Juana to write to
Catalina's parents informing them on her state. Father Urbano tells Manuel to
help Humberto as he sees him, Sixto and Silvano off on their trip to San
Cayetano. Manuel takes Matilde breakfast as she asks him why he didn't wake her
so she could say goodbye to their friends. She tells Manuel that they had a bad
day and Manuel tells her it's over for them but not for Amadeo. He tells her of
Lorenzo's visit and Matilde suggests they help Amadeo. She asks him if he
thinks Benitez will take a bribe and he reminds her that he hates him. She
suggests they ask Juana and he asks her if it was Adolfo who gave Juana the
information and she tell him her aunt told her it was Frisco and he wonders why
he did it. She then suggests he asks Renato since he knows how to move around
and Manuel asks her if it matters that he could be in danger. She says she
knows but that she felt bad about what is happening to Amadeo and feels bad for
the family that he probably has. Manuel looks for Renato but doesn't find him.
He then goes to see Humberto who is against helping him so Manuel decides to
leave when he tells him he'll look for Renato because for money he'll confront
the devil. Manuel is about to reveal that he knows about his problem but
changes his mind. Josefina decides to visit her brother and Humberto asks her
if it's because his mother complained not to do it because she'll always
complain. She tells him it's because he's worked hard and that he's her
husband. He says that a husband makes love to his wife and makes her pregnant.
She tells him he's not able to because he's ill. He's offended and walks out.
Chuy visits Manuel and gives him a message from Lorenzo. Amadeo keeps being
tortured as Ramon tells Benitez to get a confession from him or he'll regret
giving him the post as head of the secret police. Matilde tells Prudencia about
Manuel's plan when he arrives and she shows him pictures of the baptism.
Leonora informs Manuel that Renato and Humberto have arrived. Benitez lets Yves
visit Amadeo and he takes out a knife and asks him if he's going to kill him.
He throws it at him and says to use it to kill himself and that he's there on
behalf of a friend. Amadeo grabs it and buries it. Yves suggests to Benitez
that he leve Amadeo alone so he can gather strength. Manuel asks Renato if he
can handle the plan as he tells him he's willing to pay anything in order to
help Amadeo. Humberto gets after Renato for taking advantage of others and he
reminds his friend that he also used to do it. Manuel and Matilde learn that
Lorenzo is staying at the same hotel as Antonia. Adolfo reports to Frisco and
he asks him if he's reporting to his duties and he tells him he's staying. He
then asks him for the weekend since his wife is gravelly ill. Frisco tells him
to take all the time he needs. Yves questions Adolfo on Manuel as he asks him
why he's so interested in his life and he tells him about Marie. Pilar asks
Ramon why he humiliated Matilde and her family and he tells her not to ask any
questions and then insults her. In order to get in to see Amadeo, Renato tells
Ramon that he met a lot of people when he stayed in San Cayetano and he could
probably recognize him. Manuel becomes angry at the treatment of a rebel when
he arrives at the hotel. Damiana and Antonia see Manuel at the hotel and she
asks him if he's there to see her and Damiana tells him they are looking for
Sixto and tells him of Antonia's problem but he ignores them and leaves.
Lorenzo tells Manuel he's staying at a rich hotel so the soldiers won't bother
him as Manuel tells him of his plan to help Amadeo. Adolfo brings flowers to
his wife and she tells him she wants to see Matilde and her son. He tells her
it can't be possible and she asks him if he's denying her last wish before she
dies and he's saddened.Renato gets ready for his plan. Humberto visits Agusta
and learns that her mother told Josefina to change the power of attorney and he
tells his mother to butt out of his life when she begins to cry and he
apologizes to her. Amadeo grabs the knife as Renato enters the station. Amadeo
then eats to gather strength. Renato tells Benitez that he wants to help Ramon
as Amadeo makes noise and when the guard enters he stabs him. Renato sees the
gate open and Amadeo points a rifle at him. When the second guard arrives
Renato signals to Amadeo and knocks him out as he tells him Manuel sent him to
help him escape. Manuel and Matilde await word from Renato. Amadeo tells Renato
that a soldier gave him the knife and when he describes him he realizes it was
Yves and he then tells the rebel to knock him out so they won't suspect him. He
tells him to thank Manuel, knocks him out and escapes. Lorenzo and Chuy waot
for Amadeo and they carry him away. Benitez learns of Renato's and finds him
bleeding as he finds out Amadeo has escaped. He questions Renato and offended
he leaves and Benitez knocks out his assistant. Yves tells Ramon that he
visited Amadeo but doesn't tell him that he gave him the knife to kill himself

tells him to keep it as he risked his life to help Amadeo. Humberto thanks his
friend as Ramon waits for Renato at the pension house and asks him how much

that if he helped Manuel he'll punish him. Renato hides his money as Matilde
tells Manuel she wants to buy a gift for Juana. He tells her to buy it and
they'll take it to her. She reminds him that she lives at Adolfo's and he tells
her that he doesn't care who gave Amadeo the knife but that he realizes that

Cayetano. Ramon, Yves and Benitez arrive at Baranquillas as they look for
Father Urbano. Ramon tells the priest they are there to talk about Manuel.
Urbano tells the men that despite the fact that Joaquin is dead he was a bad

the ranch and about the trio's visit. Matilde tells Jacinta and Seferina about
the happiness that Manuel feels about his son and they tell her they are happy
to have her back home. They wonder what happened to Antonia as they talk about
Rosario and Silvano overhears them telling them that Rosario is Manuel's
mother. Both are shocked and realize they have to treat her like the lady she
is. Manuel visits Father Urbano and tells them what the trio asked about his
mother. He asks him if his mother lied and he assures him she's innocent and
that she's telling the truth. The priest tells him the will can't be challenged
as Manuel tells him his father's will is missing. Delfino gives his best
thoughts for Catalina and asks Adolfo if he loves her and he says he does. He

#69 - Marie tells Yves that Manuel
found out the will is missing and blamed her. He tells her to find a way to put
it back in the house and learns it's a fake copy. She tells him that if Tomas
tells Manuel she was there he'll know for sure she took it. Manuel tells
Matilde of the trio's visit and tells her he sent Sixto a telegram that the
trio is plannning to say his mother lied. She asks him if he thinks she lied
and he says he doesn't but they're too many things in his mother's past that he
doesn't know about. Catalina talks to her parents and tells them she should
have told them about Adolfo but she doesn't regret running off with him and
asks them for forgiveness. She tells them she loves them and she says her
farewells to them. Catalina thanks Juana for everything she gave her and that
she was her fairy godmother who touched her with her wand. She tells her if she
had a wand she would have cured her. She tells that she's putting her life in
God's hands and whatever happens she'll accept it. She worries about leaving
Adolfo alone and she asks Juana not to leave him alone. She tells him he's so
stubborn he'll deny for her to stay but makes her the promise to stay. At 10pm
Adolfo is by his wife's side as she awakens. He asks her if there's anything
she needs and she tells him she wants him to carry her and sit her on his lap
like a little girl and he grants her her wish. She thanks him for everything
beautiful he gave her. He tells her that she gave him more then he gave her.
She tells him that the only pain she feels is that she will never see him
again. He tells her she will and that she will always be in his heart. They
begin to sing and she asks him for a kiss. At that moment the candle goes out
and Catalina dies in Adolfo's arms. He calls out to her and begins to yell out
her name and begins to cry telling her he's never going to forget her and how
much he's going to miss her. He lays her in bed and crosses her arms and tells
her to rest in peace and kisses her. Adolfo informs Juana who runs to her side
and is unconsolable. He tells her he's going for his in-laws. Marie arrives at

She pretends she feels dizzy and when Leonora goes to get her a glass of water

Prudencia receive a letter informing them of Catalina's death. Soldiers keep
guard around Catalina's coffin including Adolfo who is holding his wife's
necklace in his hands. Ma. Clara comforts Fernanda as Don Gregorio is
heartbroken at his daughter's death. Leonora tells Sixto that she found the
document and that since she and her grandfather can't read they called him on
him. She tells him of Marie's visit and he tells them he's going to inform
Manuel. Rosario becomes nervous when Manuel asks her about her past and what
she did for a living but she remains quiet. Manuel tells Matilde that his
mother is hiding something about her past but she tells him he's exagerrating.
She tells him not to worry and that maybe she suffered so much in the past that
she doesn't want to talk about it and to respect her for that. He asks her if
she loves his mother and she says she does and she asks him the same. He says
he loves her because she's his mother but they haven't been able to stabalize
any kind of relationship and he wonders why she never looked for him before.
The next morning Matilde talks to Rosario and tells her that Manuel wants to
confide in her and promises her mother-in-law that she'll never tell Manuel
about her past. She tells her that no matter what she thinks of Manuel he is
her son. She then asks her if there was no other way to earn a living and

for Manuel from Sixto telling him of Marie's visit and the re-appearance of the
will. Matilde tells him that she hopes now they can live in peace. Catalina's
family gets ready to leave as they thank Adolfo for taking care of their

and tells Gregorio that his daughter did more for him than he did for her.
Gregorio tells him he was wrong in his thinking of him and that he knows he
made his daughter happy. Dona Juana tells Adolfo that she's also leaving and

will be forever grateful to her. He tells her he wonders if he should have
given her more and she assures him he did all he could and that Catalina is watching
and protecting him. Renato visits Humberto and informs him what Yves said and
that he thinks he and Marie along with Ramon are planning something against
Manuel and it began with the disappearance of the will. They visit Sixto and
both laugh at Renato for thinking that a duplicate of the will was made.

Cuidad Malta Ramon visits the governor (Luis Courtier) and talks to him about
Manuel and he informs him that if he doesn't have proof he can't do anything
but when he tells him about Manuel helping the rebels he gives him his
approval. He warns him if he's wrong it will be his head and Ramon assures him
he isn't wrong. Matilde tells Father Urbano that she wonders if the rumors have
something to do with Rosario's past and tells him she knows because she told
her about it. Rosario spies on them and then asks Matilde what is going on and
if it has to do with her but she denies it. Sixto sees Antonia and Damiana and
tells him he's sure that Marie took the will and to tell her that he has it in
his office safe. Marie denies taking the will and is surprised to learn Manuel
is coming back to town. Manuel and his men ride through the countryside and
when night falls they stop at a pension house where they change horses and eat
on their way to Trinidad. Benitez tells Ramon that he has witnesses and he
tells him to do things right. Benitez tells him if it's necessary they'll go to
extremes. Ramon overhears Renato tell Pilar what he thinks Yves and Marie are
planning to do and that it was Yves who gave Amadeo the knife not to escape but
to kill himself. Ramon visits Yves and asks him about the forger and the knife.
He admits to the forgery but denies giving Amadeo the knife. Ramon tells him he's
stupid in not thinking that Father Urbano will recognize his own signature and
he orders him to put the original will back. He tells him not to make any more
mistakes and tells him that at least he was smart enough to get rid of the
forger. Yves wakes up Marianne and tells her to put the original will back but
she tells him she can't because Sixto has the forged copy and that Manuel is
coming back to town. Ramon tells Renato to back off or he'll be dead by the
following morning. Manuel arrives in town and goes to see Sixto. Benitez tells
Ramon that he has all the witnesses and he tells him to go get Rosario in San
Cayetano and bring her back to town. Yves arrives and tells Ramon that they
can't change the wills. Manuel tells Sixto that the trio went to Baranquillas.
Yves suggests that they kill Father Urbano to avoid any problems. Benitez tells
Ramon that if he gives him the word he'll kill the priest. Sixto tells Manuel
he's moving back to the capital and tells him of Antonia's financial situation.
Ramon offers to accompany Marie to the courthouse. He tells her not to say
anything that he doesn't tell her. Frisco calls Yves a coward and tells him to
offer his resignation as he says he can't go to the front and offers an excuse.
Adolfo arrives and tells him he's ready to serve under him even though he feels
bad for losing Catalina. Frisco tells him they are leaving in two weeks and if
they die in battle then be it. Matilde goes through her things and finds the
music box and thinks of Adolfo. She gives it to a little girl who lives on the
ranch and then plays with the rest of the children. Manuel looks for Marie and
Yves at the hotel but they are nowhere to be found. He then asks for Antonia
and she agrees to meet with him. She denies to accept any money from him and
tells him they have gone into different directions and has asked Sixto for
help. He tells her he's also her friend but she tells him she'll never look at
him like a friend and warns him of Yves and Marie. The manager tells Marie that
Manuel came looking for her and Ramon tells him to tell him she's nowhere to be
found. Sixto tells Manuel he's helping Antonia and he asks his friend if he'll
marry her. Yves tells Marie not to cut him out of the deal because he has

#71 - Delfino tells Adolfo he'll go with
him to the front as he remembers Catalina and they talk about Manuel. He tells
him he doesn't want to talk about either Matilde or Manuel anymore. Renato and
Humberto visit Manuel and he asks them if they can help Antonia and then asks
Renato if he has any information of the forging of the will but remebering
Ramon's words he tells him that he was only thinking out loud and denies
knowing anything. Tomas arrives with an official document saying that Marie has
challenged the will. Manuel visits the judge Lic. Aureliano Perez de Tejeda
(Carlos Camara Jr.) and he tells him he has to produce the will and the
witnesses that were present when Joaquin signed it. Manuel tells his lawyer
Lic. Teran that only Father Urbano is still alive and Sixto suggests they ask
Antonia to identify her late father's signature. Benitez tells Ramon that
Manuel has turned in the will and he tells him it will be no problem because it
will be void and then they have to depend on Rosario's testimony and orders
Father Urbano be eliminated. Benitez tells him that he sent Cardenas and Garza
to Baranquillas. The men separate as Garza goes to see the priest and Cardenas
goes to San Cayetano to take Rosario back to Trinidad. He and his men threaten
Matilde and Rosario when she tells him they can't take her mother-in-law with
them. She calls out for Silvano who is nowhere to be found. Rosario tells her
she's glad he's not around because they would have killed him and agrees to go
with them and Matilde decides to follow her. Garza tricks Father Urbano telling
him he found a dying person on the roadside who wants to see him. Silvano
arrives at the ranch and Matilde tells him what happened and that they are
leaving. Antonia gets a summons and has to appear in court and she tells
Damiana that she's not going to do anything to hurt Manuel. Pilar learns that
Marie is with Ramon and when she enters his office he feels uncomfortable at
his wife meeting his new friend. Manuel tells Sixto that Renato acted strange
the last time he saw him and tells him he sent Urbano a telegram for him to
appear to testify. Garza takes the priest to the woods as he realizes it was
all a trick. He makes him turn around, bend on his knees, pray and then shoots.
Yves tells Renato that he lied about him forging the will and giving Amadeo the
knife and he apologizes to him telling him it was a mistake. Renato warns him
that he will lose sooner or later with a powerful man like Ramon. Agusta and
Prudencia arrive to visit Josefina and Humberto and learn that Marie has
challenged the will. Agusta insults Manuel and he assures her that his mother
didn't lie about him being Joaquin's son. Humberto thanks Manuel for the money
he left him but tells him he doesn't need it. At the hearing Antonia tells the
judge that the signature is not her father's and Lic. Teran is surprised at her
declaration. He tells Manuel what happened at the hearing and he decides to go
see her. In the meantime Canales arrives with Rosario at the police station and
Adolfo who is with Delfino sees her and decides to investigate. Antonia assures
Manuel that the signature is not her father's and he realizes that what Renato
told him was true, the will is a forgery. Adolfo is denied any information as
Ramon and Benitez question Rosario. She tells them she's not saying anything
until she talks to Manuel as he looks for Renato. Adolfo arrives at Manuel's
and when he learns he's not home he decides to wait for him. Benitez and Ramon
question the witnesses and they all say that Rosa as she was called serviced
them. Adolfo keeps waiting for Manuel when Matilde arrives. He tells her he saw
Rosario at the station and then meets her son. She asks him about Catalina and
he informs her that she died a week earlier. Manuel arrives home and is
surprised to see Matilde and Adolfo tells him he saw Rosario at the staion and
he asks Silvano to accompany him. Rosario yells at her interrogators that
Joaquin raped her and that he is Manuel's father and at that moment Manuel
arrives to comfort his mother. He asks his mother was is going on when Ramoan
tells him that if Rosario declares that she lied then she won't have to go in
front of the judge and reveal that she was a prostitute. Manuel is shocked at
the revelation and says it isn't true but when he asks Rosario she has no
choice but to admit it's true. Manuel arrives home with his mother when Matilde
asks him what happened. He remains quiet until he breaks a glass and crying he
tells her his mother was a prostitute. In the meantime Rosario decides to leave
but Silvano stops her. Matilde asks Manuel if he's embarraased and he says he
feels profound grief. She tells him not to reject her as she has suffered so
much. Manuel swears at his father for the life his mother led. She tells him he
has to talk to her and tell her he loves her and that it doesn't matter to him.
He asks her if it matters to her and she confesses to him that she already knew
the truth. She tells him not to blame her and he says crying that he doesn't
but that it hurts him so much.

#72 - Rosario talks to
Silvano and he tells him that Matilde asked her if there was any other way to
earn a living and he's surprised that her daughter-in-law knew. She swears to
him that she didn't find anything else. He tells her that to him she's a saint
and she answers him saying she's a sinner and that her son is never going to
forgive her. He tell her she can't leave and she asks why so her son can look
at her with hatred. He tells her that if she thinks that she doesn't know
Manuel. She tells him he's right he has no idea who her son really is. He
convinces her to go rest in her room. Silvano tells Manuel that he stopped
Rosario from leaving and reminds him that he has lived in the real world and
that sometimes people resort to certain things they don't want to do. Manuel
tells him he understand but the news was so profound and that it hurt him. He
tells him his mother is hurting also and not to turn his back on her. Matilde
enters and tells him he needs to talk to his mother and he says they will when
they both calm down. He tells her the deal he made with Ramon about not telling
the judge she was a prostitute in exchange that she admit she lied about
Joaquin being his father. She asks him what he's going to do and he says he
doesn't know but he's tired and hurt and she assures him that no matter what
happens she loves him and will stand by his side. Ramon tells Yves and Marie
that he promised Manuel he would talk to the judge to cancel the arrest order
against Rosario. Marie tells Ramon that Manuel is Joaquin's son but Yves tells
her that it doesn't matter anymore because she is now rich. Yves suggests they
take possesion of Manuel's riches before they disappear but Ramon ignores him
and asks Marie if she's satisfied. Humberto asks Renato if he knows anything
about the forgery but again he denies it. Adolfo tells Delfino that if Marie
wins it will because of Ramon and Benitez who are determined to have it their
way. He tells him that he felt so bad for Matilde that he wanted to hug her.
Delfino asks him if he still loves her and he tells him he's never stopped. He
tells him he needs to find another woman and he says he will if they return
from the war, if they return. Matilde tells Manuel she's not worried that they
won't have any money. Manuel wonders if maybe they would have left for another
city where no one knows them to start over and she tells him he did the right
thing in protecting his mother's honor. The next morning Lic. Perez de Tejeda
tells Benitez that there's something wrong with the will because Antonia wasn't
able to recognize her father's signature and asks when Father Urbano is
arriving and Benitez tells him there's no need to go any further because
Rosario declared that she lied about Manuel's paternity. The judge asks him if
she was arrested and he says that Ramon made a deal with Manuel but the judge
orders her arrest. Benitez tells Ramon about the judge's decision and Pilar overhears
him saying he has to arrest Rosario. Sixto arrives to visit Manuel as Matilde
tries to console Rosario and tells her that Manuel is saddened but isn't angry
at her. She tells her it's not her fault and to confront things head on.
Matilde 'orders' her mother-in-law to get dressed as Rosario begs her to help
her leave but she denies to. Ramon visits Lic. Perez de Tejeda but he doesn't
back down and orders Benitez to arrest Rosario. Manuel tells Sixto that he
understands what his mother did but it still hurts him. He asks him what
Matilde thinks and he tells him she already knew and has handled better than he
has. Sixto calls Matilde admirable for a woman of her class. At that moment
Pilar ariives and tells him of Rosario's impending arrest. Manuel tells Matilde
that when he brings Father Urbano things will be cleared up but that for now he
has to leave with his mother. He swears at Ramon as Matilde begs him to let her
and their son come with them but he tells her she can't go. Humberto sees the
police arriving at Manuel's and informs him. Rosario tells Manuel she'll turn
herself in but he tells her she did nothing wrong and tells Silvano they're
leaving through the back alley and says he's going to Baranquillas. Matilde
again begs him to let her go with him and he tells Humberto to hold her back,
kisses his son and leaves. Benitez orders his men to go to the alley as Manuel
tells Sixto to tell Matilde that he loves her. The men begin to shoot at them
as Benitez enters the house to search for Rosario but it's too late. Benitez
tells Ramon about the escape and that Pilar was present. He orders soldiers to
set up checkpoints and tells them shoot to kill. Garza tells Benitez he did
what he was ordered to do, kill the priest. Ramon hits Pilar and she confesses
that she told Manuel about Rosario's impending arrest and he tells her that
Manuel is an impostor. Matilde talks to her son. Humberto tells Agusta and
Prudencia what's going on and they decide to visit the governor. He tells them
there's nothing he can do and about Rosario's past. Agusta chastizes her
daughter and she reminds her that she made her marry Manuel. Agusta tells her
that she didn't know that he was the son of a prostitute. Matilde tells her she
doesn't care because she loves Manuel and she loves her mother-in-law and
despite her past she's a better person than she is. Manuel tells Silvano that
nothing has changed, that he loves and respects his mother. Soldiers stop the
trio and when questioned Manuel uses a different name and when they become suspicious
Silvano takes off. They go after them and begin to shoot and Rosario is hit.
Manuel orders Silvano to stop but he looses control when the horse unsnaps
himself from the carriage and they fall into a creek. All three come afloat
with Rosario being seriously injured. The soldiers see the accident and and go
dowstream as it becomes darker. Manuel tends to his mother as Silvano drifts in
another direction. Matilde tells Prudencia she's not going to apologize to her
mother and not to judge Rosario as they have no idea what she went through.
Ramon explains to the governor why he offered Manuel the deal and that
everything is going wrong for him. Benitez tells Ramon about Manuel's accident
and hopes all of them died in order for their problems to go away.

The next morning both carry Rosario to another place as the soldiers search the creek and find Manuel's bag. Rosario awakens and Manuel asks her if she feels a little better and she says she does. Sixto tells Humberto that Lic. Teran told him that the only way the charges will be dropped is that Rosario declare that the police forced her to lie and to have Father Urbano declare what he knows. He tells him that if the will was forged the only one who would know for sure is Urbano. Humberto wonders what has happened to the priest. Benitez tells the judge since they had no news of Urbano he sent a telegram and he got a response telling him he's disappeared. He asks Ramon what he thinks and he tells him it's obvious that Manuel is an impostor. He asks Ramon if he thinks Rosario planned the whole thing with Manuel's help and he says he does. Josefina visits Matilde and offers her support. Manuel tends to his mother as she tells him he should have let them arrest her. He asks her if he's really Joaquin's son and she tells him that being a former prostitute doesn't mean she's lying. Matilde is hysterical and says they're not dead as she tells her mother that Manuel is her life. She begs her aunt to tell her it's not true and says she wants proof. Ramon tells the governor about the accident and about Urbano's disappearance. He asks him to tell the judge to dictate a sentence. Marie offers Damiana a job and she asks her if she can help Antonia when Ramon arrives and tells her she is the sole heir to the Fuentes-Guerra fortune. Rosario tells Manuel to return to Trinidad since the soldiers probably already reported the accident and Matilde could be worried about them. Frisco tells Adolfo that Manuel is dead and he tells Delfino who says that both are now widowed. Sixto tells the family that the judge has made a decision and has given everything to Marie and that Manuel will no longer be able to use the Fuentes-Guerra name. Prudencia asks what that means and a furious Humberto tells her it means that Matilde isn't married and that her son can no longer use his father's name. He tells Sixto he doesn't know what to believe anymore when he tells him Rosario didn't lie. Matilde is unconsolable as Josefina tries to tell her she needs to be strong for her son. Prudencia tells Agusta not to tell Matilde about the judge's decision right away and to take her home the next day and she agrees. Sixto informs Antonia about Manuel's death and she is destroyed. Marie and Yves celebrate as she says she feels bad about Manuel's death but he tells her he doesn't. He asks her if she's now going to become Ramon's lover since she has to pay him back somehow and she says she finds him interesting and attractive. Damiana visits Marie and then tells Antonia and she tells her that Marie ruined Manuel's life and now wants to ruin his memory. Damiana is shocked when Antonia tells her to ask Marie for a job for her. Prudencia brings a black dress to Matilde when Leonora tells her that Adolfo is there to see her. Her aunt tells her not to go see him but she ignores her. He tells her he's leaving for the frontline and she tells him not to die also. He gives her his condolenses and that despite their differences Manuel was a good man. He tells her that Manuel will always be in her heart and that the pain will be less every day. He says he was in pain when he lost Catalina but not as much as when he lost her. Marie arrives and Matilde tells her to leave and she says that the one who has to leave is her because the fortune is hers and that neither she nor her son can use the Fuentes-Guerra name. She goes after her but Adolfo grabs her and throws Marie out. Matilde cries to Adolfo and asks him him what will be her son's name now and he hugs her.

Manuel he tells all that Amadeo has been shot ans that they have to go to a
nearby convent. One of the men ask him about Matilde and he says he's taking
her with him. Silvano tells him to take her on the carriage with Amadeo. She
tells Silvano she didn't know they were alive and he tells her to give the
explanations to Manuel not him. Humberto and Renato talk about Manuel and his
alliance with the rebels. Josefina and Hanna arrive and tell them that Agusta
knew Manuel didn't die in the accident years earlier and that Prudencia also
knew. He wonders why all the farce of a wedding and Renato asks Josefina if
Matilde knew and she says she didn't. Benitez awakens Ramon and tells him that
Matilde and the governor were kidnapped and that Amadeo and Manuel were behind
it. Hanna tells Renato that Agusta did wrong not telling Matilde her husband
was alive. He reminds her that he's not her husband and she says he is, that
he's her companion and the father of her son therefore he had every right to do
what he did that evening. At dawn the convoy of rebels arrive at the convent
and as Manuel carries Matilde off the carriage he tells her if she contradicts
his story he'll kill her. He tells a nun that their comrade was shot and that
the woman is the wounded's sister whom they were escorting to Trinidad when he
was shot. The governor is rescued and meets with Adolfo and Ramon. Ramon wants
the police to intervene but Adolfo tells him they're rebels and that he's going
to rescue his fiancee. The governor agrees with Adolfo much to Ramon's anger.
Ramon then tells Adolfo to forget about his ethics and shoot Manuel on the
spot. At the convent Manuel tends to Amadeo but doesn't know if he'll live or
not. Silvano tells Manuel he needs to talk to Matilde. The Mother Superior
(Maty Huitron) tells Matilde her brother (Amadeo) looks to be in good hands and
then she talks to Manuel. She tells him she can't go to Matilde's room but he's
able to convince her. Manuel and Matilde stare at each other and she tells him
she swears she thought he was dead. He said he was told but 'why him, why
precisely him' he asks.
Matilde:Because he was the only one who
proposed it to me. You abandoned me, you left me alone with no money drowning
in the humiliation and embarrasment. I spent three years hiding in my mother's
house so I wouldn't have to see the looks of laughter and pity on people's
faces until Adolfo asked me to marry him. Manuel:And you accepted with no
problem. Matilde: No, it cost a lot of work to accept him but I did it to give
our son a decent name. Manuel:My son already has a decent name. Matilde:They
took it from him Manuel they told us we had no right to use it. Manuel:Don't
you know it was all a trap by Marquez and Marie or do you really believe that
my mother and I lied. Matilde:Manuel please understand me I thought you were
dead. Manuel:I sent your mother and you letters. Matilde:Really, when?
Manuel:The first one right after the accident and the others months afterwards.
Matilde:Nobody told me anything I swear. Manuel:Okay let's say what you're
saying is true and that you wanted to give our son a name but why Adolfo Solis
the man I've hated the most. Matilde:I thought about it, I swear I did.
Manuel:That damned man has tried to find an opportunity to take you from me and
if I hadn't showed up in time he would have succeeded. Matilde:I already told
you that I thought you were dead. Manuel:Whether you like it or not I'm not
dead and you're still my wife. Matilde:Don't leave yet, I've missed you so,
I've dreamed with you. When they told me you were dead I didn't want to believe
it I swear. I regretted so much in not insisting you take us with you so we
could all have died together. Manuel:I want to believe you Matilde I really do.
Matilde:Believe me to me it's like a miracle seeing you again to touch you
again. He grabs her and kisses her. Matilde:I've needed you so much. Manuel:Me
too there wasn't a moment you weren't in my mind. Matilde:I've missed your look
and being in your arms. Manuel:I've missed your smile and have wanted to die to
have you in my arms again.
He carries her to the bed and tells her he
wants to make love to her then and now and continues to kiss her and touch her.
She asks him if he's forgiven her. He stops and tells her he's the same imbecil
as always and thanks her for reminding him. Silvano knocks on the door and
tells him Amadeo is getting worse and he leaves Matilde crying. Manuel checks
on Amadeo and tells Lorenzo to bring his daughter to see him and to also bring
his mother and to bring Matilde a change of clothes. Ramon tells Benitez that
he's worried that Manuel will offer proof that the will is a fake and Benitez

Marie they are finished. Adolfo tells his soldiers that no one is to shoot
without his orders when Delfino arrives and tells him it won't be easy to find
Matilde and maybe she won't return to him. He says she will because Manuel has

he knows Matilde very well and that she no longer loves Manuel. He tells his
friend he's not stepping aside this time and that he's going to fight for

at his mother's house just in case he wants to take his son. Humberto tells his
aunt that if Manuel is found he'll more likely be killed. He goes to see his
mother and she blames herself for everything that is happening. Hanna tells
Antonia that Manuel is alive and she's shocked. She arrives at Marie's and
tells Tomas that Manuel is alive and Marie tells her she's crazy. Hanna arrives
home to find Ramon telling Renato to give him the will and that he better not
make a fake one. Hanna asks him if he really has the will but he denies it.
Manuel stares at Matilde and Silvano tells him if he doesn't love her to let
her go. He tells him she's his wife. Silvano tells him to make up his mind and
forgive her. He says he can't thinking his son would have called Adolfo 'dad.
The mother superior talks to Matilde when Manuel arrives and she asks him being
a doctor why is he a simple soldier and he says that during a war that doesn't
matter. She leaves and Matilde tells him he's learned to lie very well. He
tells her he had a great teacher. She tells him she wants to see her son and he
says he wants to see him to but denies her to leave. He tells her his life has
been aliving hell like it was in the past. She tells him she would love him
even if he wasn't a Fuentes-Guerra. He tells her he doubts it because she
married him for money. She tells him it's true but then fell in love with him.

and Josefina tells him she's on a trip and will soon return. He then asks for
Adolfo. Prudencia tells her that it's time they explain the truth to the boy
about Manuel being his father. Josefina tells her that Manuel is a liar and a
fugitive. She tells her that he's still his father and that Matilde loves him.
Prudencia asks her if she loves Humberto and that if the same thing happened to
him would she stop loving him and she says she wouldn't. She tells her that
Matilde always thought of Manuel and that she was only marrying Adolfo to give
her son a name. She reminds her aunt that Manuel lied to Matilde and she
defends him saying that he has a bad temper but is a good man. She tells her if
that's so then why did she and her mother-in-law make Matilde believe he was
dead. She says she regrets it and that she's a fool letting herself be
manipulated by her sister. She tells her that she doesn't think Matilde is
happy at that precise moment but that sooner or later the couple will work out
their differences because they love each other. Manuel talks to Rosario and
tells him that Teresita is with Matilde and that she gave her clothes for her
to change. He tells Teresita that her father has a fever and wants to see her.
She wants Matilde to join her and then asks her father if Matilde is gong to
join them. He tells her he doesn't know and she begs him to let her go with
them. Garza is ordered to stand guard at the Penarvel home. Antonia arrives to
see Hanna and Josefina says she doean't want to see her when Hanna tells her to
calm down and to let her say what she came to say. Josefina then tells Humberto
about the will being stolen and he says the only person he can think has it is
Renato. Manuel talks to Rosario and tells her that Adolfo has been a nightmare
in his life and that the only way to get rid of him is to kill him. He asks her
what else Matilde told her and she says the same that she wanted to give her
son a name and he says that even if Adolfo was the last man on the earth she
shouldn't have accepted. 'Why not? his mother asks. She reminds him that he
lived his life without a name and he admits that he was angry at first but
learned to accept it. She tells him that not everyone is the same and that
Matilde thought that her son would suffer. He tells her not to justilfy her and
that Adolfo wasn't the only solution. He then goes to see Matilde and asks her
why she doesn't want to eat and she answers saying she isn't hungry.
Manuel:Are we going back to when we arrived
in San Cayetano. Matilde:If the results are the same then I accept. Manuel:What
do you mean by that? Matilde:That's the way we started at the ranch and then we
wound up loving each other. Manuel:Are you offering yourself? Matilde:Why not,
you're my husband and I love you. Manuel:You've also changed. Matilde:Maybe,
but what I want is for you to make love to me. Manuel:Just like that with no
affection. Matilde:You've always been affectionate to me. Manuel:Why do you
offer yourself like this? Matilde:Because I believe that if we make love we can
forget everything and be like we were before. What else can I do for that
miracle to occur. You don't like me anymore, Am I ugly, old? Manuel:You're
still the most beatiful woman in the world. Matilde:Make love to me Manuel.
Manuel:I want to know...Matilde:Later please. They kiss and make love.
A nun sees Manuel walking out of Matilde's room and Silvano also sees him and he asks him if he fell and he says he did. He asks what the problem is, she is his wife. The problem he says is that yesterday she was stabbing him in the back and now she's all loving. Silvano tells him he's reserving his opinion and Manuel wonders what to do concerning his wife and his son. Silvano tells him that there's the possibility that if he lets her go she might go back to Adolfo. Humberto arrives at the club and tells Renato they need to talk and ends his chess game. He asks him if he has the will but he denies it. He then asks him where he gets his money from and begins to choke him and asks for the will but he keeps denying that he has it. He tells Josefina and she offers to talk to Hanna. Adolfo questions a young boy. Meanwhile back at the convent the nun complains to the Mother Superior about Manuel and Matilde's conjugal visit. Matilde asks Teresita if there's any young woman that Manuel talks to and she tells her that he talks to Asuncion. Rosario gets after Silvano and tells him to stay out of the couple's lives. Manuel is indifferent with Matilde. He then talks to Amadeo and blames himself for his wound but Amadeo assures him that if the roles were reveresed he would have helped him. Matilde asks Rosario if Manuel is acting distant from her because he thinks she slept with Adolfo and she assures her that there hasn't been any other man than Manuel. The mother gets after Manuel and he offers his apologies. She offers him her reasons for helping him but tells him to leave as soon as possible. Amadeo tells Manuel they can leave the following day and he asks him if he's taking Matilde with him and he says he's not sure. Matilde tells Manuel they need to talk as she assures him that nothing happened between her and Adolfo. He doesn't believe her and tells her that she surely made love to him like she did to Adolfo. She slaps him and he tells her they're leaving the next day and that she's going with him. Tomas greets Sixto and when he sees Antonia he hugs her much to her surprise. She tells him there's many things she has to tell him. They talk about the fake will and that Ramon and Marie are lovers and that she aborted his baby. She tells him the only person that seems interested in what's going on with the stolen will is Hanna and he asks who she is. She tells him she's a crazy woman who wears pants and he says she's a feminist. Josefina tells Hanna that Renato is lying to her. She tells her to think about Manuel and his family. Hanna tells her she can't force Renato to do anything he doesn't want to do. Agusta promises Humberto that she will no longer butt into Matilde's life and will accept any decision she makes concerning Manuel and Adolfo. He tells his mother and aunt about the will but that they can't claim victory just yet. Amadeo is against taking Trinidad like Manuel has suggested without any resources. Matilde talks to Rosario and tells her her reasons and she hopes that her son can forgive her. She tells her she's worried about her son. Adolfo receives orders to return to Trinidad when Delfino tells him that the rebels might be hiding in a convent. Manuel thanks the Mother Superior for everything she did for them but that they are leaving because soldiers are near. Everyone scatters to leave but Matilde is nowhere to be found. Manuel decides to leave saying if she's hiding she's probably made the right decision. Matilde appears and learns Manuel left without her. On the trail Manuel tells his mother he can't leave his wife behind and is going back to get her. He takes Silvano with him and they see Adolfo and his men arrive at the convent. Manuel fears that Matilde will go with Adolfo and Silvano tells him is she does to take it and not risk his life for a woman that doesn't love him. Matilde talks to the Mother Superior when the mother is advised that Col. Adolfo Solis wants to talk to her. Matilde thinks of going with Adolfo to calm things down but she wants to be with Manuel so the mother tells her she's going to have to lie for her. She tells her she's going to the prayer room and not to leave unless she wants to. The mother tells Adolfo he can search the convent but not the prayer room and he agrees. Manuel worries about Matilde as she tells the mother she wants to be with Manuel. Delfino shows Adolfo cigarette butts and another soldier gives him Matilde's dress.

#83 - Adolfo questions the Mother
Superior and she confesses that the rebels were there including Manuel and his
wife Matilde. He tells her they're not married according to the law. She tells
him that the church marries people and not names. She also tells him they're
gone and that the wounded one was named Amadeo. He asks her if they are not in
the prayer room but she assures him the men are gone. Manuel tells Silvano that
if Matilde wanted to leave with Adolfo she would have already appeared. Silvano
wonders if she left before he showed up and he tells her that they have to look
for her because she's in danger. He insults her and Manuel tells him if he
wants to remain his friend not to talk bad about his wife again. He sees Adolfo
and his men leave and Delfino tells his friend he's doing wrong going after
Matildewhen he's been ordered to return to Trinidad and he suggests he send men
camoflauged as civilians later to look for Matilde. They leave and Manuel goes
back to the convent. The Mother Superior tells Matilde she'll help her get to
Manuel in some way. Prudencia angry at Mrs. Fernandez tells her that Manuel is
a Fuentes-Guerra and they have the real will to prove it. Agusta gets after her
for lying but she tells her she's tired of people talking and her sister tells
her it's her fault and that she's paying for all the mistakes she's made. Sixto
and Antonia visit Humberto and Josrfina and Antonia asks if Renato will accept
a large sum of money from Manuel in exchange for the will and that has Humberto
thinking. He then talks to Renato and he reminds them that the plan against
Manuel was done by Marie and Yves and he doesn't want his family to be graced
by the scandal but still denies he has it. Humberto denies his friend and walks
away. Matilde gives the Mother Superior a letter for her mother when a nun
arrives and tells her that Matilde's husband has come for her. She runs out to
him and when they see each other they run into each other's arms. He asks her
where she was and she tells him she was desperate when she learned when he left
without her. He tells her he thought she had hidden from him because she didn't
want to go with him and asks her if she wants to go with him and she hugs him.
Father Urbano washes his robe and then enters the hut when Adolfo and his men
arrive. They enter the hut and are shocked to see the priest there. Adolfo
frees the priest from his chain and he tells him he's been there for three
years. He tells him he doesn't know the name of the man who has him there and
that he was supposed to kill him but that God touched his heart and he only
shot him in the leg but the bullet is still there. Both don't understand what's
going on. Manuel lets Matilde rest and tells her they have a long way to go.
She tells him she wrote a letter to her mother but that she didn't say anything
about them. She tells him she thought he didn't want anything to do with her
and he tells her he would have never left her. She tries to explain but he
tells her that for that one moment he wants to believe that she didn't leave
with Adolfo because she loves him. She tells him it's true and that she's never
stopped loving him or thinking about him and they kiss. Urbano tells Adolfo
that Rosario isn't lying and that he knows for a fact that Manuel is Joaquin's
son. Adolfo tells him that he's probably right but that the law doesn't see it
that way and that he's a rebel and if caught he will be killed. 'That's what
you want to see him dead right? the priest asks. He says he doesn't want to see
anyone dead but that Manuel has ruined Matilde's life. He admits that he still
loves her and that he will take her away from Manuel even if she doesn't want
to go with him,. The priest asks him if he thinks that will make her happy and
he says he believes it will. He tells him he's as stubborn as when he met him
when he was in San Cayetano. He tells him it's not the same because Matilde was
married back then but now is a single woman. He tells him they'll arrive soon
at Trinidad and the priest tells him to leave him anywhere. Rosario waits for
Manuel and Matilde. Amadeo talks to Lorenzo and he asks him if they take
Trinidad. Lorenzo asks why Manuel is doing crazy things for a woman and he
reminds him who Matilde is but what matters most in a woman is what's on the
inside and asks Asuncion if it's true and she says Manuel deserves a woman like
her and not a skinny thing like Matilde. Ramon tells Marie that the governor is
now in Trinidad and that Adolfo hasn't returned with Matilde. He also admits to
her that Renato has the will but not to worry. Marie tells Yves that Renato
stole the will years earlier and will more likely give it to Matilde. Yves
visits Renato and tells him what Ramon said and Hanna overhears them. He tells
him it's not for sale and when he insults Hanna he knocks him out. Hanna asks
him why he lied about having the will. Manuel and Matilde arrive at the camp
and Rosario runs to her side. She tells her they live in another world and she
tells her that as long as she has Manuel's love she can live anywhere. Rosario
suggests she doesn't bring Manuelito to the campground. Manuel checks on Amadeo
and tells him he's worried that Matilde unwillingly might say something if she
returns to Trinidad. Renato explains to Hanna why he blackmailed Ramon. She
asks him why he didn't think of Matilde and he tells her he was thinking of her
and Pilar. Yves tells Benitez that Renato has the will and he tells him he'll
talk to Ramon. Manuel tells his wife what it is that he misses and she asks him
if he thinks Alvarez will win. He says he hopes he does because he can have his
case re-opened because he and Rosario didn't lie. He asks her to stay and she
asks how long because she wants to see her son and then return. Manuel thinks
of what Amadeo said when Teresita takes her with her. Adolfo returns to
Trinidad and the governor tells him he has to go to the front but Ramon doesn't
want the troops to leave. Rivas tells Benitez about the convent and that they
found a priest and that Adolfo called him Urbano and Benitez is shocked. Ramon
talks to Adolfo and tells him he has to do his job and to get rid of Amadeo and
Manuel. He argues with him and tells him he wants to see Manuel dead. 'Don't
you' Ramon asks him touching a rifle. Benitez orders Garza arrested. Fr. Urbano
arrives at Agusta's and when Garza sees him he runs away. The priest meets
Manuelito and tells him he has only one father and that he's alive. Josefina,
Agusta and Prudencia are shocked to see the priest. They tell him everything
concerning Marie. Matilde talks to Teresita when Asuncion asks her if her
boyfriend is as handsome as her husband and walks away. Rosario tells Manuel
that Matilde is uncomfortable and he says he knows and that he fells bad at how
she's living. Rosario asks him why he doesn't let her go home and Matilde
overhears him say that he's afraid she'll tell Solis where they are. She asks
him why he believes that and he tells her that everyone including Amadeo
believe it. He goes after her and she tells him she thought he wanted them to
be together and asks why he thinks she'll betray him. He tells her they'll
start from the beginning and asks her why was she going to marry Adolfo and she
tells him he cares for his son. He asks her if he married Antonia to give his
son a mother does she think she's going to love him after her own children are
born. She tells him Adolfo is different. He reminds her that Adolfo hates him.
She tries to make him understand to no avail. She screams at him telling him
it's his fault for abandoning her as he walks away.

#84 - Manuel is ordered to go with
the other rebels to rob a convoy from civilians and soldiers. While talking to
Adolfo, Delfino bumps into Antonia who tells them about the will and that she
believes Ramon got rid of Urbano. They're surprised and tell her that Urbano
has been found. Ramon is furious when he learns that Urbano is alive and tells
Benitez that all of them are inept. Benitez tells Ramon thay have to destroy
the will and Ramon tells him he has the authority to do what he has to to get
the will from Renato. In the meantime Renato looks through Pilar things when
she arrives and asks him if it's true about the real will. She denies to visit
him in his home while Hanna lives with him telling her she has to watch every
step she makes. He tells her that the following day things could be different.
Sixto and Antonia arrive at Matilde's house and are thrilled to see Father
Urbano. Prudencia tells them they have to wait for Humberto to decide what to
do as Antonia suggest they talk to the governor and Sixto says that if Renato
learns the priest has appeared he will turn over the will. Sixto escorts
Antonia home and tells her that if Manuel gets his name and fortune back it
will be because of her and she says she knows and he asks her if she wants
something in return. She says she doesn't and that she still loves Manuel but
not like she used to and he tells her that it makes him happy to hear her say
that and she becomes embarrassed. Delfino tells Adolfo that Marie is Ramon's
lover and Margarita tells him the same. He then says that it means that Manuel
was unjustly robbed of his name and fortune. His friend asks him if he knows
that what the priest said was true, that Manuel and Matilde are married. He
becomes angry and tells his friend it bothers him to learn it's true and
Delfino tells him that he might die in battle. Manuel returns to the camp to
find his mother sleeping outside the tent. He enters the tent, washes up and
lies next to his wife. He touches her and she awakens.
Matilde:They told me you went to steal.
Manuel:It's true. Matilde:Did you kill anyone? Manuel:No. Matilde:Why Manuel?
Manuel:Because all these people have to eat and there's no other way to get
them food. Matilde:We were fine when we were in San Cayetano. Manuel:But these
people were never fine. We live in an unjust world. They kiss. Matilde:I was so
afraid when your mother told me you have gone to steal from a caravan.
Manuel:Don't think about that. Matilde:Do you like this life Manuel? Manuel:No.
Matilde:Do you think we'll go back to live like we once did. Manuel:I don't
know. Matilde:At this moment when we're like this nothing matters to me.
Manuel:Me neither. They kiss and make love.
The police see Hanna and Renato leave their
home and they enter, tie up their servant and search the house for the will.
Canales takes it to Ramon when Pilar arrives. He tells her to go to sleep and
then tells Canales that the will is fake and that he gave him the idea. He then
orders Pilar not to let Renato into his home and tells her if she disobeys him
he'll send her to the capital without her son. Renato and Hanna return home to
a disaster. Hanna doesn't understand why Renato is laughing at the situation
and he tells her that the fake will is gone and that the real one is hiding at
Ramon's house. She begs him to return it to it's rightful owners since it's
becoming too dangerous. Matilde talks to Teresita but feels bad when the other
women ignore her. Rosario gets after Asuncion for her indiscretion when Silvano
arrives and he says everyone blames Matilde for Amadeo's injury. Matilde
becomes jealous of Asuncion when she flirts with him. Humberto tells Renato
that Fr. Urbano has appeared and he tells him he'll give him the will with
certain conditions, not to mention Ramon's name nor for his sake but for his
sister and nephew. Humberto hugs his friends and agrees to his conditions.
Humberto tells his family about the will and wonders how Manuel knew about the
engagement party as Fr. Urbano asks the women why they never told Matilde that
Manuel was alive and all they do is bow their heads. Reanto is denied entrance
into Ramon's house and reassures him that his name is not going to be
mentioned. Benitez wonders if Pilar has the will and when Ramon tells her
Renato wants the papers he gave her she asks what papers and the broken table
is shown. Ramon tells Benitez that Renato still has the will and he promises
he'll get it. Renato tells Humberto he wasn't able to get the will but promises
he will. Matilde tells Manuel that everyone else comes first before she does as
Amadeo wonders why Adolfo's troop has stopped searching for Matilde. Manuel
offers to go to Trinidad to learn why and also get information about his son
but Amadeo tells him he's sending Chuy and Asuncion instead. Matilde wonders
why Amadeo is sending Asuncion and Manuel tells her those were his orders.
Matilde:Did you have something to do with
her? Manuel:How can you ask me that? Matilde:You mean in three years you
haven't...Manuel:No, I haven't, never only because I was an idiot, an imbecil.
Matilde:I thought that.... Manuel:Well, you thought wrong. I remained faithful
to you but I can't say the same thing about you. Matilde:There's no reason for
me to stay here. You've lost all confidence in me and though we enjoy making love
that's not everything in a relationship and everyone here looks at me strange
blaming me for Amadeo's accident and they probably know about Adolfo and it's
embarassing. Manuel:I'm sorry but you can't leave. Matilde:I won't say half-a
word I promise. Manuel:They can convince you. Matilde:I'm no fool. Manuel:No,
you're not but you're very gullible, you believed Adolfo when he said he would
love our son like his own. Matilde:I'm so tired of your obsession over Adolfo.
Manuel:Yes, I'm obsessed. I never had any insecurities not even when I was a
poor doctor and even when my name and fortune was taken from me but to doubt
the woman I love at every moment is a torture. He walks away leaving her crying
and saying how much she loves him.
Humberto visits Adolfo and tells him about
the will and he tells him if Manuel is caught he'll be executed. He admits his
true feelings for Matilde and says that even though it sounds cruel he desires
Manuel's death. Humberto tells him that Matilde will never accept him if he
kills Manuel. He tells him he won't do it personally but that justice will.
Ramon orders Benitez to get the will. Renato tells Hanna he'll be back son
after he enters Ramon's house. Hanna tells him to be very careful. The police
sorround him and beat him to a pulp. They run off when they don't find the will
on him and think they killed him.

is hurt when she sees Rosario enter the tent and not Manuel. The next morning

asks her if that means there's no hope for her and her husband and Rosario
tells her that everything has a solution except for death. The women then take
a bath in the river. Rosario then talks to Manuel and he tells her he doesn't
know whether to believe his wife or not when she tells hin she loves him. She
tells him that Adolfo is a good man and that maybe Matilde accepted him because
he knew her story therefore she didn't have to give any explanations. He admits
that Adolfo is a good man and that her points are valid but that when Adolfo
learned Matilde was married why didn't he take it like a man and leave. She
asks him what he would do if he was in his place and he says there not talking
about him. He asks her what he has to do, go to Matilde and tells her to forget

like if nothing happened. She tells her son that if he can't forgive his wife

that Ramon had his brother beaten up because of his lover Marie and she's
shocked but tellls him to look through the room for the will. Antonia, Sixto
and Fr. Urbano ask Adolfo for his help and explain to him what Ramon and Yves
did against Manuel. Sixto asks him if he's willing to help them and he
confesses that his problems with Manuel are on a personal matter but will talk
to the governor if a crime has been committed. Sixto escorts Antonia home and
tells her he doesn't trust Adolfo completely. She tells him he's an honest man.
Sixto tells her to leave Marie's place and worries about her safety. Marie asks
her where she was and she lies telling her that she got a message from a Marie
and that she asked for her. Marianne becomes nervous but when she asks her what
Marie was wearing she realizes she's being tricked when she tells her she's
wearing the latest French fashions. They get into a catfight until Yves and
Damiana arrive and separate them. Antonia decides to leave and Damiana asks her
if she's going to become Sixto's lover and she tells her that he is a good man
and that she's going to the hotel with him. She tells her to stay with Marie.
Pilar's servant tells her she knew for years about Ramon and Marie but didn't
say anything and then gives her an envelope and realizes that it's the will
that Humberto was looking for. Pilar goes to see Renato and gives the will to
Humberto. He and Pilar are shocked when they see Renato and he reminds him of
the pact they made. Pilar tells him to do what he has to do to punsih Ramon.
Lorenzo and Manuel follow a civilian soldier and when Lorenzo shoots at him he
falls and breaks his neck. Pilar tells her brother that she doesn't know her
husband anymore. She tells him she loves him and asks Hanna if she can return.
She then asks Hanna why she wears pants and she tells her that they are more
comfortable. Adolfo visits the governor and he tells him of Fr. Urbano's
imprisonment when Humberto arrives and tells him that someone send him the will
through the mail. Matilde talks to Silvano and he tells her she's done wrong
and that maybe with time Manuel will forgive her when he arrives and tells her
what happened. Matilde talks to Rosario when Manuel arrives and tells them that
Adolfo's troops are near. Adolfo gives his men orders when Sixto arrives and
tells him that Manuel's case will be re-opened. Humberto asks his family not to
mention Ramon's name but they are against it and so is Fr. Urbano. Sixto tells
Adolfo that if Manuel is given back his name that means that his marriage to Matilde
is valid. They argue about the situation and Sixto tells him that he might be
the one on the wrong side. He leaves and Delfino asks him if it's true. Adolfo
tells him it's too late in the game to change sides now. 'What if Alvarez wins,
I can take off my uniform and blend in as a civilian but what about you', he
asks. 'Death' Adolfo answers. Rivas tells Benitez he begged to go on the
mission to look for Matilde and the rebels. Benitez learns that Manuel's case
will be re-opened. Manuel and Matilde attend a wedding at the camp. He follows
her and she tells him she can support anything if things between them were the
same. He hugs her and she tells him that she wished she could find the words to
explain why she did what she did. He tries to leave but she tells him no to and
tells him there was two things she missed the most about him when they told her
he was dead, his smile and his physical contact. She asks him why they've had
so much bad luck and he tells her because of other people's greed or maybe because
he was born with bad luck. Ramon learns that Manuel's case has been re-opened.

want you in a safe place where you won't need for anything. Matilde:Is that it
or is it that you don't want us to be together anymore? Manuel:And you?
Matilde:I do but so many things have happened between us and I don't think we
can re-construct what he had before. You've lost confidence in me, you're so
distant, you're always in a bad mood and you're so hard on me. Manuel:I know
and for that I ask you for forgiveness, but please understand me that they've
taken everything from me. I've los the possibility of living a normal life and
to enjoy my family like any other Christian. I've lost you and my son.
Matilde:No, You'll always have me and if you want I'll bring Manuelito.

last forever. Manuel:Maybe it will. Let me talk to Amadeo.

him telling him he doesn't want to be a jealous husband anymore because Matilde
