Twelve years later, Pablo returns home to introduce his fiancée, a material and superficial young woman. An encounter with his childhood friend leaves him dumbstruck: Julia has become a beautiful, rebellious woman, but with a very bad reputation. Telenovela-World: Episode 1
Recap Author: Paul N (---) Date:
03-10-08 20:55 PDT
I'll volunteer to do summaries, but they
may not come daily. I'm going on a little trip to St. Louis for spring break
and I have a huge research paper coming up, so don't expect me to do summaries
daily, and if they do come daily, don't expect detailed summaries like this
one.
Actually, this summary isn't even mine,
it's a recap from when it aired on Grandes Historias back in 2000. Credit goes
to nuestra Jeri for doing such a fantastic job on it.
Now, on with the show...I mean summary.
Heh.
----------------------
Village of San Benito, Veracruz
Twelve Years ago
At the Aurora sugar refinery, foreman Ruffino
accidentally overhears a clandestine romantic meeting between the boss, Amador,
and a woman. Back home, Amador's wife, Josefina complains to her maid about
having to go to a dinner that evening. She despises the idea of meeting with
Amador's best friend, and especially his wife, Margarita. She also seems to
despise a poor orphan kid who plays with her son and whom her brother, Father
Kuko, has taken to raise.
Across town at the farmer's market,
Margarita and her maid are shopping for dinner, while all the men ogle her.
Margarita's a tall, beautiful blonde. Her daughter, Julia, is playing nearby
with Pablo, Amador and Josefina's son and the orphan boy, Juan de Dios. She
invites them to her parent's dinner. The boys throw mud at a pretty little girl
and excuse themselves, saying she's only the granddaughter of the local witch.
Amador meets Fausto, his best friend, in
the cane fields and they discuss the dinner. Sounds like Amador's wife is
always putting the nix on the four of them getting together, but Margarita is
always willing to give it one more try. Back at home, Margarita pulls dresses
out of the wardrobe to give them a look, and her sister, Dinorah comes in.
She's sexy, but not so beautiful as her sister, and envious of women who have
rich husbands. Margarita gives her a dress to wear that night, and she's
delighted.
At the church, Father Kuko forbids Juan de
Dios from going to the dinner. It's not a kids' affair, he insists, even though
Julia invited him. At Josefina's house, she's ready to go and forbidding her
kid from attending, too. Amador comes in from the refinery and reverses her
decision, ticking her off. She especially doesn't want her boy at THAT house.
Amador's sick and tired of her attitude.
Back at Margarita's, she's busy so her sister
does the intimate duty of tying her husband's necktie, outside his bedroom
door. He's glad Dinorah's coming to the dinner, though, since it promises to be
a tense affair. Downstairs Fausto wonders if Margarita's dress isn't a bit
much. It's pretty low cut.
Finally the guests arrive, and Josefina
makes appropriate, polite small talk. Fausto gets worried about the kids and
goes to look for them outside. They're climbing a tree at Juan de Dios's
instigation. Inside, Margarita goes to get the guests' drinks, and Amador
decides to go help her, leaving a simmering Josefina sitting with Dinorah. She
quickly decides to go check whether her son's hands are washed, leaving Dinorah
alone.
Outside Fausto and Josefina yell at the
kids for climbing in the tree and rush them inside, remaining a few moments.
Josefina really abhors Juan de Dios. Fausto pries out of Josefina why she has
such a rotten attitude -- yes, your Margarita isn't the woman you think! She's
having an affair with my husband. Fausto must be a jealous sort, because even
though he thinks his wife loves him, you can see he's entertaining this idea,
alright.
Back in the living room, Amador and
Margarita are having a friendly chat -- so friendly, in fact, that Dinorah
looks resentful and goes for more wine. The other two spouses come in just as
Margarita and Amador are clasping hands, and the sight of it stops Fausto in
his tracks. Oh, yes, he's the jealous sort, ok. Josefina develops a sudden
illness.
At the church Refugio (the padre) has
discovered Juan de Dios has disappeared and rides his bike over to Margarita's.
Dinorah lets him in, and none too friendly, either. He goes with Margarita to
look for the kids, who are out in the woods again, and the padre scolds Juan
and takes him off. Margarita's always nice to Juan.
Back inside, Josefina's insisting on going
home, so they all make their awkward farewells. Dinorah makes a dig at her
sister about what a shame the evening didn't work out. Back at the church,
Refugio continues taking Juan de Dios to task. The other kids had to be there,
because their parents couldn't leave them behind. Juan really gets to the
priest, though, getting choked up thinking everybody but him has parents. The
priest forgives him and they have a nice hug.
Margarita's combing out Julia's hair when
Julia asks about the little granddaughter of the witch, and Margarita tells her
there's no such thing as witches. Later, brushing her own hair out at the
dressing table, Fausto braces Margarita with the question: are you sorry you
married me? She's really surprised and assures him she's never been sorry. He
wonders if his position in the community is good enough for her. He's only a
producer and is never going to be as important as Amador. But she doesn't care.
He starts to tell her why the subject came up, but gets interrupted by Julia,
wanting goodnight kisses. Fausto uses the chance to escape to his office.
Over at Josefina's, they hit the front door
yelling. Amador is sick and tired of her attitude, and she is sick and tired of
his lovesickness for Margarita! He insists her suspicions are totally
groundless and slams out the door, going to sleep in a guest room. His poor
kid, Pablo, is waiting outside, worried about his mom. Amador tries to reassure
Pablo he's sleeping apart so his mom can rest and feel better. Pablo just seems
sad and worried.
Down in his office, Fausto looks at
Margarita's portrait on his desk with melancholy. Suddenly the phone rings, and
nobody's there. We see it was Amador, who hangs up suddenly, chagrined. Just
then Dinorah enters the office, and sees Fausto looking very uncomfortable. She
however, appears extremely comfortable, being nearly naked. Fausto confides in
her about Josefina's accusation and his doubts. Dinorah wants to know if he's
bothered -- or worried? He admits he's never thought about the idea before. She
wants to know what he would do if it were true. Fausto seems increasingly
preoccupied and declares he'd kill Margarita and whoever she was fooling around
with. Dinorah thinks this is pretty drastic, but reassures him her sister would
never do anything like that. He knows it's true. She kisses him goodnight on
the cheek and leaves.
At the refinery the next day, Samuel, the
old machinist, notices something strange about a piece of equipment and wants
to take it offline. But Ruffino comes up and arrogantly declares it sounds fine
to him and that when the boss is gone, HE's in charge. He even makes a stab at
insulting Samuel's age, the jerk.
Josefina visits her brother, the padre, at
the church and talks about her marriage. She knows when her husband's messing
around! Refugio's upset that she has no faith in her husband and accuses her of
not keeping her husband at home, of making him look elsewhere. Meanwhile, her
husband is actually looking elsewhere. I'm not sure where he is, but he's
waiting in a nice house somewhere, and we hear a door slam, someone entering. A
woman walks up and when she turns, we see it's Dinorah, with a big smile on her
face. They embrace.
Music up, roll Televisa logo. Tune in
tonight!

Day 2 Recap [USA, 3/10/08] Author: Paul N (---) Date:

DAY 2
On with the show...I mean summary. Heh.
---------------------------------------------
I won't even bother with recapping the
repeats. Let's just get on to the regular happenings...
At Amador's, he and Dinorah are gettin'
their freak on. She gives him some shocking news: she's been poisoning Fausto
with her "bad news." Dinorah thinks it's a good idea, since she won't
get in trouble. However, Amador knows the hell Josefina can raise. And nobody
wants that!!
JDD (whom I will abbreviate Juan de Dios'
name from time to time) meets Julia downtown and brings her some orphaned
chicks. She fears of their fate and brings up the idea of going to see -GASP!-
Remedios! Juan and Pablo of course aren't keen on the idea, but she tries to
assure them she's a Good Samaritan. Pablo has the courage to go off, but JDD
still needs his ahidias (those who haven't seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding won't
know what I'm talking about).
Ruffino sees that there's a holdup with the
machine and he gets in an argument with Vicente over some machine that doesn't
work. He says that it doesn't work, but Ruffino doesn't care. It's basically
"I'm the boss when Evora ain't here, and what I say goes, get to
work!" Vicente has no choice. Let's see what chaos ensues at the
factory...
Fausto oversleeps and he's rushing to work.
He's worried about the example he's setting for his employees. Fausto also
tells Margarita to watch out for her sister, and she says that he's really
"worried" about Dinorah! She says she'll get jealous if he keeps
talking about her, but she means the world to him, he says.
Dinorah and Amador talk about how much they
mean to each other, and he realizes how late for work he is.
Ruffino's ordering Carlota, the secretary,
around, when suddenly Samuel comes in and says that Vicente's been hurt on the
machine that Ruffino said was "fine." Vicente's in the hospital and
all the works.
Josefina and some friend are talking about
planning some charity event or something. Margarita is named as a potential
participant. Hahahaha, right. Carlota calls Josefina in looking for Amador
because there's been trouble at the factory. Then, she decides to call
Margarita but she isn't there either. Uh-oh. Trouble. Josefina tells this
friend she refuses to attend if Margarita is there. This friend has an
"Ooooh...gossip!" look on her face.
Margarita went to see the Padre about
arranging a mass for the anniversary of her father's death. It seems Fausto's
love made her believe in God and the Church.
The kids are playing by the river and have
made it to the witch's vicinity.
Ruffino leaves the office with a purpose
and tells the secretary he thinks he knows where he can find the boss.
Fausto's made it to the office and
you-know-who called Fausto. She's been putting poison and jealousy into his
head.
We finally see La Bruja!!! It's Tomasa from
La Otra!!! Yeah!!! They're scared of her, but Julia gives her the birds and
Pablo asks her for an amulet. JDD is still scared shissless!! She gives them
the amulet and promises to take care of the birds. She makes them pay up by the
next day or the spell won't work or she'll kill the birds.
As Amador is leaving, the workers come with
the bad news. He has to be back at the plant pronto.
As LOS NINOS are leaving the woods, they
see AMADOR getting into his car!!!!!! Pablo walks closer and he runs into
Dinorah!! He asks her why she was with him and he with her. Surprise! She tries
to talk him out of this little escena, and he tries to call her a liar. Dinorah
eventually changes his naive little mind, and makes him promise to shut his
little trap up.
JDD finds a dog under this huge statue.
Some girl (forgot her name, I think it'll be Paty Navidad's character) throws
mud at him, and she claims he threw mud at her. She says for him to treat her
better and for him to watch out, or he'll get EL OJO. El se asusta.
Samuel explains to Amador about what
happened, and he's pissed. Amador is determined to take care of it.
Julia walks in with mud on her shoes, and
she tells her mom about where she was. Margarita scolds her a bit, until Fausto
gives her hell about her being "irresponsible" and about where she's
been all morning. He really gets it when she says she was with the priest!
Julia walks away when the subject of where she's been comes up again. Margarita
wants to know what's going on, and Fausto wants to tell her, but Dinorah
finishes his sentence. Boy is Margarita pissed. Fausto tells her to mind her
own hot damn business.
Amador is chewing Ruffino's ear off and
giving him a demotion, and Ruffino is trying to be sentimental with him and
said he knew about his private life. Basically he put Amador in a spot. Because
of this blackmail the demotion couldn't happen. Ruffino promised there wouldn't
be one more complaint.
Fausto's trying to make amends with his
wife, but it's not working too well. The fact that he'd go to the extreme he
did was bad enough. Her conditions are that she doesn't want to see his
"friends" at the house anymore. Margarita is taking Julia to her
madrina's house, and Fausto wanted to finish talking with her. She basically
told him off when she said "Why don't you talk to Dinorah, since you enjoy
talking to her anyway?" HAHA! GOTCHA!
In the parlor, Dinorah's trying to get a
hold of Amador, and Julia enters. She hangs up, and Julia basically wants to
know what the hell's going on between her parents. Dinorah says that he's
reading her the riot act for doing "bad stuff," but Julia defends her
mom. Just then Margarita enters to take Julia out. Dinorah tries to express
fake sympathy, but Margarita's on to her game. She tells her that she should
have been Fausto's wife! Hah! Dinorah wickedly grins, kinda not believing that
her sister's jealous of HER!
Pablo tells his mom about his day (SHE'S
STILL IN BED?!) and she gives him hell about being with Juan de Dios. But he
said that nobody bad would be living with his uncle, and she has to concede to
that fact. He gives her the amulet and she's "lucky" now. He ruins
the moment when he tells her about when he saw his dad coming out of the rio
house.
Dinorah gets through to Carlota at Amador's
office, but doesn't leave a message. She's a bit weirded out at that fact, that
she'd call like she's a wife of his.
JDD is talking to the padre about EL OJO.
He's trying to explain about it on his age level, and he's explaining to him
about LA BRUJA, that she isn't really one. They're going over a back to school
list, it seems. That kid is so bad, asking about where he gets the money for
school, saying he steals the offering money, LOL!
Margarita and Amalia (the madrina) are
chatting as she's finishing the dress.
Margarita and Julia are walking, chatting
about if her father truly loves her mother. Margarita gives the usual
explanation, differences shouldn't get in the way of love blah blah blah. Just
then the granddaughter of LA BRUJA comes up selling Mexican sweet rolls, and Margarita
buys one for her daughter. Turns out the nina's name is Mireya.
Carlota is getting ready to close up shop
when the Padre is there to see Amador. He's not back from the hospital, so he
decides to wait. Alone in the office, the phone rings, and he answers. A woman
says "Hello, my love?!" He's surprised to hear this unexpected voice.
He asks "Who is this?" And she wants to know the same. She thinks
it's Ruffino, but the Padre knows who it is. "Dinorah?! Is that
you?!" He asks.
AND CUT!
This is my summary before I leave for St.
Louis. When I get back this weekend, I'll try to catch up on my episodes and
maybe write a "summed up" summary.
