USA 10/11/00. Subject: RE: Episode
3--detailed summary Author: kw (Kathy)
Date: 10-13-2000 15:02 Hi Phyllis, No picture! How terrible! We had both sound and picture but I
didn't see the episode until late last night. This is what happened:
Episode 2 ended with Paulina leaving the apartment of her girlhood
friend the madame in the early hours of the morning, and being accosted by two youths at a red light, one of whom was
pointing a gun at her with wildly trembling hands. She handed him her purse, sprayed him with mace,
and then got out of there knocking over the guy on the motorcycle as she fled. Since she had knocked him over with
her car she was afraid that she had killed him but she didn't hang around to
find out. This was an eventful early morning. Cesar's (the brother with
the mustache's) daughter was at a night-club so drunk (or drugged) that she could hardly stand. Her
uncle, the golden boy Roberto, insisted (over the protests of her boyfriend) on taking her home. She staggered (with
Roberto's help) to the car and promptly passed out. Roberto then called Juan
Carlos (the right-hand man -- who was
in bed with Mireya at the time) to find out the name of the doctor who takes
care of the street kids, because he
wanted his cousin to see a doctor -- right away -- who would not be known in
high society. Juan Carlos then jumped
out of bed to help, leaving Mireya very angrily saying that Juan Carlos cared
about everybody but her and she wasn't
going to take it anymore. The doctor
was instantly smitten with his beautiful wealthy charge, who soon insisted that
she was well enough to go home. But the
doctor warned Roberto that if the girl didn't lay off the amphetamines she
would soon leave a lovely, slender corpse.
(Un cadaver esbelto). Roberto warned the girl's brother that his sister
was headed on such a dangerous course and the
brother confronted the sister about it. She denied it, and insisted on
going to see the doctor, who to her is nothing but a meddling "muerto de hambre". She wanted to pay the
doctor -- and she wanted him to prescribe amphetamines for her. Of course he was roundly insulted -- especially
about the amphetamines -- and he told her that all the money in the world
that she could come up with still
wouldn't be worth even a minute of his time, so he wouldn't accept any money at
all from her. But he's still smitten,
poor guy. A lot of people are getting
smitten around now! Roberto arrived home at dawn and took a quick dip in the
pool (lovely scene -- it was raining)
and the father's new bride stared at him to her heart's content. While the new
bride insists that she didn't marry for
money, she is very happy to have her own car and a chauffer to take her
shopping at the expensive shops all day
long. Roberto took his father to task
for marrying again after he promised that nobody would ever take his wife's
place in the house. Roberto said that
"amiguitas" were good enough for his dad for years -- why get married
now? His dad said that the older he got
the lonelier he got and that his new wife is honest and loving. (Ha.) Meanwhile, the father is very displeased
that Roberto spends his life going to nightclubs all night and sleeping all
day. Roberto will now go to work at the
business! After all, he did very well in school. Roberto is not happy about
this, but what can he do.
The other person that doesn't want to
see Roberto in the business is Cesar, who wants to run the whole thing himself.
I don't know why, but I get the feeling
that Cesar is extracting a lot more than his salary from the business. Cesar
just hopes that Roberto is going to get
sick of it before a month is up. I wonder if Cesar will do anything to help
Roberto get sick of it..... But
Cesar's wife is getting ready to do a little business herself -- a little
"monkey business" that is. She finds the new waiter at the club very handsome, and he admits
that he was fired for "igualado" from his last job. They could go
into "business" together
(such as dining in private booths) as long as she always remembers that she is
the partner with the money. Sounds good
to her. They make a date and he promises her a night to remember. Meanwhile, back at the house, Paulina
confesses to the housekeeper that she is terrified that she killed a man the
night before. But nothing has come out
in the newspapers yet. Juan Carlos comes to the house, and Paulina sees him
give Mireya a passionate kiss. Paulina
touches her own mouth in the "I'm thinking about a kiss" gesture that
you see in the novelas -- but she keeps
in the background as Juan Carlos visits with his aunt, the housekeeper.( Who
tells him that she doesn't trust the
new bride -- that the new bride seems to want to stock up on gossip about the
children in the family -- and she
doesn't seem to be up to any good.) Paolo comes in and meets Juan Carlos. Both
the boy and the man have heard a lot
about each other from Paulina's father, and Paolo begs Juan Carlos to take him
sailing. When Juan Carlos asks
Paulina's permission, she says no. Juan Carlos then invites Paulina to
come along, and she says that she'll stay home but Paolo can go. The
novela ended with some threads coming together. The doctor who treats the
beach-kids (and who warned Cesar's
daughter off the amphetamines) is the son of a woman who gives classes to
those same kids. (This is the same doctor that
was recently hired by the company.) Some of the toughest kids have
missed a few classes, and the mother/teacher is worried about them. It turns out that these same tough kids are
the ones who robbed Paulina. The one she hit with a car has his arm in a cast, but nothing else appears
to be wrong. He got the license plate number and swears revenge. The other one has irritated eyes, which he says is
from (smoke from fire-eating if I understood rightly) but which was really
caused by the mace. There are plot-twists going on with the
business (a constructora -- development firm?) that I don't understand. The
workers are taking time off, and the
union doctor signs the forms saying they are sick, but the company doctor can't
find them at home when they are
"home sick". If they miss 10 days of work, they can be fired, but
they make sure not to miss 10 days. It
looks like the projects are being delayed for lack of workers, and the
constructora can't hire more because of the union. I think that all of this has to do with the enmity of the father
and the other old man. The one
brother that I haven't mentioned is Salvador, whose love from long ago is
Paulina's friend the brothel owner (she
went into the business because he had dumped her, and she said if you
can't be happy you might as well be rich). When Paulina visited her, the friend said that Salvador could come see
her because she is now indifferent to him. Salvador was very upset at that, saying that indifference
is even worse than hatred in an old love. (Salvador, if I remember rightly,
phoned a woman in the first episode who
swore that she loved him and missed him -- and commented "estupido"
as soon as they hung up, because its
the money, really, that she wants...)
Well, this is all that I can remember. I'm still behind on episodes and
will see episode 4 (and possibly episode 5) tonight. The presidential debates slowed me down. Far more aggravating
than the most frustrating novela but important for voters I think...

Marina has dinner with the young man, something about a business venture.
Salvador visits Georgina to no effect. Mireya asks ___ for help with Juan
Carlos; she suspects he is slipping away. Roberto has questions for César about
some of the papers he has read (at the request of his father, he is supposed to
work in the business). César brushes him off: matters of Juan Carlos, ask him.
Angel meets with Nicolas Rey, a man with no price, who does have a price: better
working terms. César tells Marina he is worred that Roberto will discover the
fake accounts he set up to cover her expenses. Salvador finds his novia in bed
with another man and ends it (which he had planned to do in any case). Marina
tries to make peace with Paulina. Rodrigo calls Pia. She takes a pill of some
kind. Roberto gives Virginia a ring or something. Hugo thinks of Pia. Serena
admits to Paulina that Juan Carlos is a Don Juan. Alvaro is worried by the
results of the test. Roberto meets Juan Carlos who explains that he has control
of only certain accounts and will provide details later. There is a family
dinner. Afterwards, Alvaro tells Angel he has only a few weeks to live, can
keep the pain controlled with morphine and won’t tell anybody. Serena overhears.

10-16-00 Monday's summary Author: Joy Date: 10-17-2000 17:41 Don Angel asks the doctor to keep his illness a secret from his
family. He tells him he’ll live his death as he lived his life, passionately.
He tells the doctor to fill him with morphine when needed so he won’t feel the
pain. The doctor, who seems to be more upset than him, tells him that he has
only a few weeks of life left. By chance Serena hears this from the door and
takes to bed crying her eyes out and feeling ill. Paulina goes to see her but
she doesn't want a doctor. Next morning, Serena takes Don Angel’s younger photo
out of her drawer, kisses it and puts it back.
Cesar shows interest in Salvador’s work, looking at the business side of
things. Paulina has retired to her room for the night and in the living area
everyone is somewhat pleasant with each other. They put on music and Marina and
Cesar do the tango (I mean the dance!) with passion. Salvador tells Elisa that
when he was a child he wanted to become a priest. Elisa says, “what’s wrong
with that? I wanted to become a nun!” Salvador’s face changes. When Elisa asks
him about it, he says that he once knew a little girl who wanted to become a
nun also. But she grew up and now she’s the owner of a brothel. When Don Angel tells Cesar and Salvador that
he wants to see them early next morning at the office and then he takes his wife
to bed. Georgina gets the news that one
her girls is detained for the suspicion of robbery by one of the clients. She
is sure that the girl didn’t commit the robbery. Roberto’s girlfriend keeps pushing him for a wedding date to no
avail. Juan Carlos finds his friend
Damian and Mireia sitting at the nightclub holding hands. Even though this was
friendly, JC reads more into it. Next
morning, Paulina, after finding out about Serena’s illness the night before,
calls Juan Carlos to tell him that his aunt is ill. Juan Carlos, after giving
some papers to Roberto that he had asked to examine, goes to see his aunt. Juan
Carlos on his way out thanks Paulina for her concern with Serena. Paulina says
that Serena was a second mother to her. Juan Carlos is very thankful ...and
more... to Paulina. Mireia complains to
her friend that she feels an estrangement from JC, which keeps increasing each
time she sees him but not to worry, she’ll get him back. Don Angel tells his sons, Roberto, Salvador
and Cesar why he asked them to meet him in the office, just as Juan Carlos
joins them. Don Angel has decided to pay the price that Nicolas Rey had asked
and beat Severo Rincon to the purchase of the beachfront property including the
school for the worker’s children. He also has accepted the worker’s conditions.
When they all look at the papers, Cesar thinks that this is too pricey. Juan
Carlos feels that this is fair because he says well-fed workers will work
better for the owner. Cesar gets up and holding JC by the collar, tells JC
around here he is nothing but...and JC, feeling insulted, holds him by his
collar also. As they are about to give it to each other the episode ends.
10/17-20/00.
Severo has tapped Angel’s phone and knows of the meeting with Rey. Serena tells
Juan Carlos to leave Paulina alone, she doesn’t deserve to be hurt; he says he
loves her and can’t help it. The mother of one of Roberto’s women sees him
kissing another and tells her. He denies that it was anything more than a
friendly greeting. Marina sells information to Severo about the proposed
meeting with Rey. Juan Carlos kisses Paulina. Marina overhears Elisa on the
phone saying how she can barely stand the old man, takes the phone away and
hides it in a suit of armor. She promises to keep quiet in exchange for part of
the inheritance. Rey is killed in an “accident” before he can sign the new
contract. Pia decides to do something with her life. She convinces Hugo’s
mother to let her teach English; two of the students are the two who robbed
Paulina (Paco and Lalo, I think). Angel takes Severo’s gun back to him and
persuades him to accept Rey’s terms. Severo does; he can see that Angel is
dying. César doesn’t like the new terms but Angel wants to make reparations in
his last weeks. Serena, who finished a nursing degree years before at Angel’s
insistence, gives him his shots. Paulina and Angel talk again. He tells her he
suspects that she killed her husband. Juan Carlos apologizes to Paolo for
kissing his mother against her wishes. Serena forgives Ángel. Angel and Paulina
reconcile. Angel overhears Elisa trying to make love to Roberto and hears his
response; when Elisa threatens to accuse him of rape if he tells his father, he
says he won’t but only because he wouldn’t hurt his father who loves her. Angel
leaves the door smiling and calls his attorney because he wants to change his
will. Paulina calls Juan Carlos at night and Mireya answers; P hangs up. Marina
introduces her new socio, Romy, to her husband. After César leaves the office,
his secretary walks in on Marina and Romy kissing. Angel talks to César, says
he loves him in spite of his faults.
Angel signs the new contract with Severo, containing the clauses
requested by Rey, in front of all his children. Severo lets Angel know that
after he dies, Serena and his children will remain. Angel dies before he can
sign the addition to his will, which cuts out Elisa for “reasons she knows”, in
front of his lawyer.

is named head of the company. JC wants to take Serena away, but Paulina puts
her at the head of the table and all, including Elisa, except César and Marina
agree. Because Angel left the maids out of the will, Serena gives them each
gold coins worth 60,000 pesos, all her savings, and says they were a gift from
Angel. The lawyer agrees to support her story. César is worried that Paulina
will discover his embezzlement, even though he has bribed the accountant. Hugo
accepts Katia as the new nurse and Pia is jealous. Severo accuses JC of
defamation. His lawyer tells him that Paulina’s husband died in a sailing
accident. A maid finds a letter from
Angel for Juan Carlos, a personal letter in which he outlines the faults of his
children and asks JC to help Paulina, the child most like himself. Paulina asks
Roberto what was between him and Elisa; he doesn’t tell her what happened. The company lawyer tells Juan Carlos why
Paulina is called la viuda negra: she was heard wishing her husband was dead
and the next day he died in a sailing accident. People assume that she was
helped by her childhood sweetheart Marco Antonio. Roberto hires two of
Georgina’s girls who look like Elisa. Juan Carlos tells Paulina how her father
started out as a poor boy doing odd jobs, went to school, learned languages,
etc. She didn’t know of his past. He also tries to explain that her father was
a saint but she procedes with a project her father had approved, and César
wants, although it will have negative consequences. Severo recalls his love for
Serena and wishes he could have killed Angel. Juan Carlos and Paulina have a
party for Paolo and introduce him to some children in the pueblo. Paulina tells
Georgina she will want to hire her girls from time to time for business guests.
Romy shows Marina the apt he got for cheap for the business when its owner was
killed in a car accident. JC asks permission to kiss Paulina. Mireya sees
them.
10/30-11/3/00.
Mireya and Juan Carlos decide to try again. The family approves the project
Juan Carlos objects to because it was Angel’s project and he wanted it. Paulina
asks César to review the accounts and that when the year is up, she will turn
the business over to him. Miguel Angel tells Patricia they must keep their
relationship secret because her father, Angel’s lawyer, would oppose it. In
school, one of the boys tells Paolo that his mother killed his father and is
called the black widow. They fight. Mireya’s friend, obviously in love with
Demian, reads his lifeline. Paulina wants to leave the pueblo when Juan Carlos
tells her why Paolo fought but he convinces her to stay. The accountant tells
César that Paulina is lying, that she won’t give up the company in a year.
César tells Marina he had Romy investigated: the young man does know his
business but also has a reputations as a womanizer. Severo orders his henchman
to start a publicity campaign against the Villareal project and when it hits
the papers, César accuses Juan Carlos of engineering it. When Mireya sees the
article, she begs Juan Carlos to leave the company but he tells her he is
obligated to stay for a year. Salvador suggests that there was one other
“outsider” at the meeting in which the project was discussed: Malena(?),
César’s secretary. She denies to César that she was the one and tells Marina
that she must be well-paid if she is to take the fall. Paulina asks Juan Carlos
to come up with a solution. Juan Carlos tells her she should find out who her
husband’s lover was and who killed him. She agrees. Miguel Angel is suspicious
of Romy and Marina realizes it. Severo is worried about Juan Carlos, tells his
henchman to rake up the old scandal about the death of Vicente. César tells
Juan Carlos he will head the company in a year. Paulina confirms it. Elisa
realizes that she has shares she can vote. Juan Carlos proposes that the buy

leaving, although Juan Carlos doesn’t when he gets up later. Paulina and Marco
Antonio announce their engagement to the family. Nobody knows that it is a

doesn’t understand why Paulina got engaged. He tells Mireya he will want proof
that the baby is his because it could be Demian’s. That idea hadn’t even
occurred to Mireya. Paolo runs away and is then kidnapped by Severo’s men but
escapes when the car is in an accident. Paulina tells Serena the truth about
her engagement to Marco Antonio. Demian and Juan Carlos talk about Mireya’s
pregnancy. Maria tells Marina that she will reveal the secret of her one true

firefighters announce that the fire was arson. A week passes. Hugo is sure that
Marina was responsible and tells Juan Carlos. Hugo and Pia have a civil

apoyo económico a Marco Antonio. Juan Carlos, borracho, va a ver a Severo y
Severo avisa a Larios dónde

1/1-5/01. no episode on the 1st. Serena tells Alvaro that Angel killed himself.
Marina tells Pia that César is in jail. Juancho is arrested for the murder of
Vicente. Georgina tells Salvador she was unfaithful once while he was in the
hospital but doesn’t tell him with whom or that she is pregnant. Marina,
contrary to Hugo’s wishes, gives Pia a pill to calm her down and later tells
her that it was Juan Carlos who tried to seduce her and that she rejected him.
Salvador asks Georgina if she was unfaithful with Harry and she admits that she
was. He takes the news calmly. (We don’t see the scene; know of it from her
telling Harry and, I think, Paulina.) César refuses to see Marina. Hugo tells
Pia that her mother was responsible for the fire. Pia defends her mother and
leaves Hugo, but Marina won’t let her move in with her, tells her she must live
in the casa to defend their rights. Marco Antonio and Marina have lunch. She
wants him to buy some paintings because she needs the money. He admits that he
left Paulina years before because he wasn’t going to risk his life for
a “tonta”. Paulina looks for the jeweler’s invoice and finally finds it.
Georgina tells Paulina that Vicente’s lover was a married woman. Juancho begs
Severo for help. Severo tells him that Paulina was responsible for his being
arrested. When César sees the invoice, he realizes it was for one of Marina’s
necklaces, one that he didn’t sell (don’t remember why) but he doesn’t remember
where he put it. Paulina, Juan Carlos, César and even Larios realize that
Marina must have been Vicente’s lover and murderer. Marco Antonio and Marina
become lovers. Pia asks César to forgive Marina. He doesn’t tell her the truth,
just says that he can’t. Juancho tells the police that César hired him to kill
Vicente. ? tells Juan Carlos that César could not have been the murderer.
Paulina finally finds the necklace. Paulina confronts Marina who
admits that she always hated Paulina because she had everything and that she
was Vicente’s lover. Juan Carlos is angry that Paulina confronted her because
he knows that Marina is dangerous. Salvador tells Harry he will
support him in his plan to build a gym and apologizes for his behavior, shakes
his hand. Paulina and Juan Carlos present a plan to Teniente Larios for
unmasking Marina. Severo hires the beach bum to kill Juan Carlos. Severo confronts Serena in the church and
she tells him the truth, that Juan Carlos is his son. She reminds him
that they were lovers for a long time and she underwent numerous treatments
because she couldn’t get pregnant and then she was. She went to tell him the
good news and overheard a conversation in which he ordered a murder. Learning
he was an assasin, she went to the U.S. with her sister and brother-in-law,
gave birth, and gave the baby to them. There she met the newly widowed Ángel
who hired her to care for his children. She accepted and became his lover for a
brief time; but he got tired of her and went on to other women. He never knew
that Juan Carlos was Severo’s son. Severo tells her that one night when they
were drunk, Ángel told Severo that he and Serena were lovers.
That was the end of the friendship. Severo tells her he doesn’t believe her but
later asks Abraham where the beach bum lived.
Salvador confiesa a Paulina
escarmiento a Vicente.
efectivo a Tony.
Larios

destruirá a Elisa.
Marina sube a
Salvador
tells Georgina that he will be returning to the seminary, that he will always
love her but their love will be converted into something better. She admits she
is pregnant by Harry and he is happy for her. Juan Carlos tells Paulina he has
to find his father. Severo, now believing that JC is his son, tries to find
Tencho to stop him from killing JC. Elisa tells Roberto she’ll leave when the
year is up; she loves him but his father’s ghost will always be between them.
Serena is pleased by Salvador’s decision. Severo asks Alvaro who son JC is;
Alvaro tells him he is his father. JC visits Juancho in prison and Juancho
admits that he knows Severo put him there. Miguel Angel tells Patricia that his
mother was unfaithful. Something Juancho says about Severo’s obsession with
Serena makes JC realize that Severo is his father. Marina asks her “friend”
Nina to find the necklace and Nina agrees to help. Serena admits the truth to
Paulina. Miguel Angel asks Zamora for Patricia’s hand in marriage. Tencho
shoots at and misses JC. Juancho calls Marina and threatens to tell the truth;
she tells him to go ahead. The handwriting analysts declare that César’s
signature was a forgery. César realizes it must have been done by Marina who,
as his secretary, had often forged his signature and tells Zamora. Pia visits
Hugo. He tells her that he has fired Katy. They reconcile. JC visits Severo and
warns him not to hurt the Villareals. Severo warns him to watch out. Georgina
dies, surrounded by Hugo, Salvador, Harry and Paulina. (for reasons known only
to the writers, she refuses to go to the hospital for surgery). Marina searches
the house for the necklace. Elena discovers her and destroys the cell phone but
Marina says she has another way to destroy Elisa. When Pia sees her mother’s
cell phone being used by ? and learns that it was found by the scene of the
fire, she realizes that her mother must have been responsible. Marina goes to a
party and Cassandra thanks her for saving her dauther Virginia from marco
Antonio. Paulina arrives wearing her necklace and when Marina demands it back,
Paulina accuses her of having killed her husband Vicente. Tencho is arrested
and confesses everything. Juancho tells the truth, that Marina was responsible
for the death of Vicente. Marina threatens Elisa with the addendum to the will
that Angel wrote the night he heard Elisa with Roberto. She demands jewels and
money. Paulina enters, they fight, Marina leaves. Elisa tells Paulina to read
the document. Roberto arrives and reads it, too, then tears it up. Paulina says
she would have done the same. César is released.
USA, 1/11/01.
ULTIMO CAPITULO. Severo discovers that two other men have gone after Juan
Carlos for the reward. He runs to la casa, steps in front of JC and takes the
bullet meant for him. JC doesn’t understand why Severo was shot. He dies in the
hospital. Elisa’s mother leaves and wishes her daughter well. Marina empties
out her safe deposit box. Larios explains to Juan Carlos about the men planning
to kill him and that Severo meant to save his life, that few men are all good
or all bad. Paulina tells Elisa that she is going to break up with JC, that it
isn’t working (we never see why it isn’t working). The police chase Marina in
her car, she swerves, deliberately it seems, goes over a cliff and dies. César
apologizes to his children for giving all his love to their mother. At Severo’s
funeral, only JC and Serena attend. JC embraces her and forgives her. Serena
tells JC the story, how Severo was a good man corrupted by power, how she met
and fell in love with Angel who soon thereafter left her for other women but
whom she never stopped loving. Nina cries for Marina. The police arrest
Abraham. The year is up and the inheritance is to be distributed. All decide to
leave their money with the company, except for things like a trust for Paolo,
charity, etc. Juan Carlos will use part to form a company (I think) and gives
the rest to Serena who, in addition to money, inherits the house where she
decides to stay and provide a home for her “children” whenever they want to
return. Elisa gives up all claim, turns the money over to the company and
explains that she was disinherited and has decided to abide by Ángel’s ultimate
voluntad. They retire to the garden for cocktails and are joined by Harry and
Florencia. Roberto finds Elisa packing and asks her not to leave. She says they
need time apart, but there is the hope that she will return. JC and Paulina
meet by the pool. He tells her it is over, they argue too much, Paulina cares
for everybody except him. In her garden, Serena talks to Ángel about the home
she will make for his children. JC pushes Paulina into the pool then jumps in
after her and they kiss. The ghost of Ángel walks on the beach
and sees that his children are happy.

OK, chicos. Final completo para los que estaen interesados. July 9 2000 at 5:21
tomas distintas (estuvo bien).
Saludos
