WEEK 1 – USA 8/4-8/03

Week #1-Spoilers Included (Short Version) Author: Alta Date: 08-01-03 13:45 PDT [translation of Esmas summary]

Monday – In the Cathedral San Andres Alfonsina (Adela Noriega) is being baptized. Francisca (Azela Robinson) is angry because no one attended her daughter’s baptism as opposed to everyone attending Alejandro’s (Mauricio Islas), son of Justo (Alejandro Tomassi) and Margarita (Daniela Romo). Margarita tells Justo to pressure Rigoberto (Cesar Evora) to sell the spring (El Manantial). Justo tells Rigoberto to leave town, maybe that way his wife will change her wild ways and an angry Rigoberto beats him up. Francisca looks for Justo to demand an explanation. She finds him in the church and wants him to admit they are lovers. The priest finds them in a compromising position.

Tuesday – Father Juan (Julio Monterde) runs Justo and Francesca from the church. Francisca reveals to Gertrudis (Olivia Bucio) that she met Justo again and she asks her what she would do if Rigoberto found out. At that moment Rigoberto asks what is it he has to find out and Francisca tells him the Getrudis is in love with him to cover herself. Altagracia (Angelina Pelaez) gives identical necklaces to Alfonsina and Alejandro. Justo looks for Father Juan to pay him off for his silence.

Wednesday – Justo convinces Alvaro (Raymundo Capetillo) to sign the death certificate and to put that his death was from natural causes. Rigoberto pressures Getrudis to tell him why Francisca always is away from her house. Gertrudis doesn’t reveal anything but her attitude gives her away. Rigoberto taked his machete and finds Justo and Francisca in the cabin.

Thursday – Alfonsina and Alejandro are uneasy as if they are feeling the situacion that is about to occur to their parents. Francisca buries Justo’s gun. Melesio (Justo Martinez) and Fermin (Sergio Reynoso) find Rigoberto’s burned truck with his body inside. Justo invents a lie to explain his injury, he says a bull gored him. Gertrudis threatens to turn Francisca in but baby Alfonsina changes her mind.

Friday – Justo denies being the father of Francisca’s baby. Margarita tells Justo her conditions not to divorce him. Months later Francisca gives birth with Alvaro’s help. Justo tells her the baby girl died and takes her to a place unknown. Gertrudis tells Salvador (Manuel Ojeda) that she buried the baby in Rigoberto’s grave. Years later, Alfonsina is now a teenager.

USA, 8/8/03 - The priest visits the site of the burned car and cabin.

Justo denies that Francisca is telling the truth. Francisca demands that Justo be responsible for his child since her husband is dead. Margarita didn’t know that. Francisca leaves, but Margarita believes her and leaves, too. Later, Salvador, Rigoberto’s brother, recognizes Margarita sitting on a bench. She tells him that Francisca is responsible for the death of his brother.

Francisca goes home, admits to Gertrudis that she is pregnant by Justo, tells Gertrudis that she alone is responsible for Rigoberto’s death. Gertrudis goes to the grave, swears she will never leave his child.

Justo demands that Alvaro take him home. Margarita won’t let him in her room at first, then gives him her conditions. First: he will never touch her again, reminds him that she owns the house and the servants are discreet. Then she says something about the bastard (not shown).

Salvador goes to Francisca’s home, tells her what Margarita said. Francisca tells him that the Ramirez were responsible for Rigoberto’s death, have always wanted El Manantial. He asks her about her relationship with Rigoberto. Francisca acts offended. Salvador leaves.

Altagracia tells Mele there is something wrong between her patrons. He tells her he thinks there is something fishy about the accident, doesn’t believe a bull gored Justo.

Francisca tells Gertrudis she is sure that Justo will be at her side soon.

Months pass. Alvaro delivers Francisca’s baby on a stormy night, as Justo paces downstairs. Alvaro tells Francisca the baby was born dead. Justo leaves with the baby. Gertrudis chases after him, sure the baby is alive. She kneels in the rain. Gertrudis returns to the house, demands that Alvaro swear the baby is dead. He says that the it was born with the cord around its neck. He gives her some pills for Francisca and leaves. Francisca asks Gertrudis why they talk her baby, realizes she should have gone to the clinic.

Altagracia finds Margarita waiting up for Justo, wonders why, asks what happened between her and Justo, hasn’t been the same since the night of the accident. She tells Margarita she hates to see her suffer. Margarita tells her to be quiet.

Francisca develops a high fever. Gertrudis waves a towel! Then she sees that Francisca is bleeding. She, of course, calls Margarita who hangs up on her. Justo returns, tells Margarita that Alvaro attended the birth, they did as they had agreed. He asks for recompense. Sh reminds him of the conditions, forces him out of her room.

Salvador hears that Francisca was taken to the clinic, trouble with the birth.

At the clinic, the doctor asks Gertrudis who her doctor was because he didn’t act properly. Francisca is ok but won’t have any more children. He tells Gertrudis if he were Francisca, he would file charges against the doctor.

When Margarita and Justo learn that Francisca is in the clinic, Margarita tells him not to go to her. He agrees. Gertrudis talks to Francisca who says it was punishment by God. She tells Gertrudis that Justo had promised to go away with her. Gertrudis tells her to think of it as a chance to start a new life, away from the man who hurt her so. Salvador arrives at the clinic, demands to know why Francisca gave birth at home, in the hands of a fraud. Gertrudis tells him that’s what she wanted. He asks where the child is. Gertrudis lies, says the baby was buried in the tomb of Rigoberto. Gertrudis tells him that some day she may tell him everything in the confessional, but not now. She tells him that Francisca cannot have more children, that is punishment enough.

Justo goes to the Manantial, says “all for this damned manantial”.

Altagracia returns home, tells Margarita that she doesn’t share her hatred for Francisca, couldn’t reject a request for help, with Francisca in the clinic and her baby dead. Altagracia tells her that she has a clear conscience, something others in this house can’t say.

Gertrudis cares for Alfonsina, plays with the necklace.

Time passes. About 20 years. The grown up Alfonsina puts on the necklace, looks at the picture of her father.

WEEK 2 – USA 8/11-15/03

Monday – Gilberto (Rafael Mercandente) and Javier bother Alfonsina and Alejandro defends her. Each knows their families are against each other because of the spring. Gertrudis learns Francesca mortgaged the spring. Alfonsina bathes in the spring when Alejandro appears. They agree to be civilized and are attracted to each other. Alejandro kisses Alfonsina, ignoring that Barbara, (Karyme Lozano) Alvaro’s daughter watches them.

Tuesday – Barbara leaves with Alejandro leaving Alfonsina alone. Justo pressures Francisca to give him the spring. Margarita slaps Alfonsina and prohibits her from seeing her son. Alfonsina tries to find out about Francesca’s past with no luck. Alejandro looks for Alfonsina to apologize for his mother’s actions when Rigoberto’s orchards are set ablaze.

Wednesday – Alfonsina and Alejandro try to put the fire out, but he hurts his leg and is trapped. Alfonsina is able to free him. It starts to rain and the fire is put out. Alejandro and Alfonsina happy to be safe kiss each other. Francisca learns that Justo set the fire and decides to turn him in.

Thursday – An investigation in to the fire begins. Alejandro asks Malena (Patricia Navidad) to take Alfonsina a letter. Margarita intercepts it and she takes it to Justo. Margarita demands he do something to get Alfonsina out of their lives. Alejandro tells Alfonsina he’s not going to Spain with Barbara and together they will confront any problems and admit their love for each other. Justo commits a horrible crime against the teenager.

Friday – Gertrudis finds Alfonsina with her clothes torn and crying. The next day Francisca returns from her night out, learns from Gertrudis what happened to her daughter. Francisca confronts Justo. Alejandro goes looking for Alfonsina, but she doesn’t want to see him. Alfonsina doesn’t want to press charges against Justo and convinces Francesca to leave San Andres. Malena tells Alejandro that Alfonsina is leaving town. The young man struggles to get to the station, but it’s too late, the train is leaving.

WEEK 3 – USA 8/18-22/03

When he drops her off at her apartment that find Francesca kissing Carlos (Luis Courtier), Hugo’s father.

Tuesday – Alfonsina protests to Francisca about her behavior. Alejandro decides to stay at the estate while he waits for his wedding to Barbara, but he can’t stop thinking about Alfonsina. Alejandro discusses with Hector (Jorge Poza) the position each holds at the estate. Alfonsina decides to enter a convent. Carlos informs Francisca that she might have lung cancer.

Wednesday – Alfonsina goes through many stages to prove is she wants to become a nun. Francisca prays in a church and asks for forgiveness for all her sins. Justo and Eloisa (Nuria Bages) have a passionate ecounter. Francisca confesses to Gertrudis who killed Rigoberto. Salvador comments to Margarita his doubts that Alejandro loves Barbara. Gilberto and Barbara kiss when Hector surprises them.

Thursday – Barbara tries to explain things to Hector who tells Alejandro, but doesn’t belive him. Francisca confirms that she has cancer and makes a drastic decision not to suffer anymore. Salvador gets a call from the Mother Superior (Marga Lopez) concerning Alfonsina. When both arrive at the apartment they find Francisca has slit her wrists. Francisca makes Alfonsina swear that no man will step on her like Justo did to her.

Friday – Alfonsina decides to take Francisca’s ashes to San Andres and tells Gertrudis her decision to get revenge on all those who have done her wrong. Justo threatens to send Alvaro to jail if he keeps pretending to be the owner of the manantial. Things start getting cold between Alejandro and Barbara. Alfonsina arrives in San Andres and doesn’t let people’s looks frighten her off. Alejandro and Alfonsina see each other in church.

8/22/03 – Francisca has a biopsy. Carlos advi ses Gertrudis to locate Alfonsina, her mother will need her.

Héctor sees Gilberto trying to kiss Barbara. Barbara is very angry, tells Gilberto to stay away.

Alejandro asks Melesio why his father goes to San Luis every 15 days.

In San Luis, Justo says goodbye to his lover.

Altagracia reprimands Margarita for the way she treats her nieta Malena.

Alfonsina gets permission to call home. When nobody answers, she asks permission to leave for a few hours. The MS is, of course, surprised that she could make a round trip to her pueblo in such a short time. Alfonsina admits that she lied. The MS tells her that if she leaves, she shouldn’t return. She decides to stay.

Barbara tells Hector that Gilberto kissed her against her will and if he says anything, she will deny it, say that he invented it out of jealousy.

Carlos tells Francisca and Gertrudis that the biopsy was positive, wants to operate the next day. He leaves. Francisca asks Gertrudis to leave her alone for a while. Gertrudis tells her that she loves her. Francisca thanks her for all she has done for her and her daughter.

The MS takes Alfonsina to her office, where she finds Salvador. He tells her this is not the life for her, that she lacks the vocation, that she can’t keep fleeing from her problems. She says she has the right to try. He says that he and the MS have agreed she won’t be permitted to stay. He says he will take her home. She says goodbye to Mercedes.

Back at the pueblo, Margarita tells Justo that Alejandro hasn’t forgotten Alfonsina.

When Gertrudis returns to Francisca’s room, she discovers that Francisca has left. Francisca goes home, puts on music, takes a cigarette, looks at a small box.

Alejandro offers Malena a ride. She refuses, goes into a rant about not wanting to get into any more trouble. They talk of Alfonsina. He says he was hurt by her leaving without a word; Malena admits that she, too, was surprised. Alfonsina said nothing to her either.

Salvador and Alfonsina arrive at her apartment. Alfonsina is afraid she will find hr mother with a man in the bedroom, but Salvador insists that he wants to greet her. Alfonsina finds her mother in the shower, with her wrists slashed. Alfonsina screams. Francisca is still alive, smiles when she sees Alfonsina. Salvador tells the hysterical Alfonsina to call an ambulance. Francisca tells Salvador that God is punishing her. Gertrudis arrives home as Francisca is being put in the ambulance. Alfonsina goes with her. Francisca asks Alfonsina to forgive her, says she wants to die in peace, says that she is the worst of mothers. Alfonsina tries to keep her awake. Francisca makes Alfonsina promise never to let a man ruin her life the way Justo ruined hers. Francisca dies. Gertrudis and Salvador follow the ambulance..

Margarita talks with Hector, warns him not to spread stories about Barbara to Alejandro. She threatens him with losing his job. He tells her that Justo hired her and is the only one who can fire him. She says he is wrong. He asks her why she treats him so. She insults him, says he used Alejandro to get a job, etc., etc. She goes inside; he sits on the steps and cries.

When Justo returns home, Alejandro asks how the sale went, would like to see the contracts. Justo tells him everything is verbal until he sees the animals, asks Alejandro why the questions, is there something behind them? Alejandro reminds him that he wanted him to learn the business. Altagracia finds one of Justo’s shirts with blood and tells Margarita to ask for an explanation. He invents a lie and in the process slanders Alfonsina. Barbara and Alfonsina argue. Barbara slaps Alejandro for looking at Alfonsina. Gilberto tells Alejandro that Barbara is cheating on him and he demands to know who it is.

Thursday-Alejandro full of anger beats up Gilberto. Gertrudis tells Alfonsina why she never married. Alejandro learns Alfonsina injured his father, but doesn’t believe his explanations. Alfonsina wants to bury her mother’s ashes in her family’s tomb. Gertrudis gets nervous and confesses to Salvador that Alfonsina’s sister is not buried in Rigoberto’s grave.

Friday-Gertrudis tells Salvador that Alfonsina’s sister could be alive. Salvador starts investigating into what happened to Alfonsina’s sister. Justo beats Alejandro after an argument about the spring. Alfonsina starts losing faith on life. Hector confesses to Alejandro his true feelings towards Alfonsina. Margarita tries to bribe Alfonsina to leave town.

USA, 8/29/03 - Justo demands that his cuñado Alvaro turn over the Manantial to him, shows him the debts he has, threatens him.

Alejandro tells Barbara to tell him should she ever fall out of love with him. She tells him that will never happen.

When Gilberto gets home, his mother asks what happened. He said he got into an argument with Alejandro (not his fault!), will have to resign. She tells him he can’t, not after what his father did to get him the job.

Barbara visits Héctor, demands to know why he told Alejandro about her. Héctor tells her it was Gilberto who hinted to Alejandro that she was cheating on him, didn’t name anybody of course.

Alejandro argues with his father about Gilberto, sees the injury. His mother enters the study, tells Alejandro it was Alfonsina. Justo tells his son that’s true, swears he did nothing, says that Alfonsina is crazy. After Alejandro leaves, Justo tells his wife that was a dumb thing to do, but she tells him it was better to give Alejandro their version first.

Gertrudis becomes nervous when Alfonsina says she wants to bury her mother’s ashes with her father and sister, then covers up and says it’s ok.

Alejandro asks Alfonsina for an explanation. She tells him it would be useless to tell him since he would believe his father. He asks if she has returned to make trouble; she tells him she came to bury her mother. He apologizes.

Alfonsina visits Salvador to arrange a mass.

Alejandro visits Alvaro, asks for his version of the scene between Alfonsina and his father. He tells Alejandro he doesn’t know...and that it is an odd question, given that he is to marry Bárbara. Alvaro asks Alejandro if he truly loves Bárbara, doesn’t want him to marry her if he doesn’t.

Gertrudis tells Salvador that Alfonsina’s burial plans can’t go forward; if she opens the tomb, she will discover that her sister isn’t buried there. Salvador reminds Gertrudis that she assured him the baby had been buried. Gertrudis tells him that the daughter’s father took her right after it was born, won’t tell him who the man was. Then Gertrudis tells the padre she isn’t sure the baby was born dead.

Justo talks Bárbara and Pilar about the true state of his arrangement with Alvaro over El Manantial, pretends he didn’t know that they didn’t know. Justo leaves. Bárbara and Pilar pour out their shame.

When Alfonsina gets home, she finds Gertrudis crying. Gertrudis pretends she is crying about Francisca. Gertrudis asks her if she has truly been a help to her. Alfonsina assures her that she couldn’t have managed without her.

Alejandro’s mother demands to know if he is still interested in Alfonsina. He sits down at his desk, doesn’t know what is happening to him.

WEEK 5 – USA 9/1-5/03

Wednesday-Eloisa uses a pretext of wanting to talk business with Justo. Altagracia thinks she knows her. Alvaro decided to distance himself from Pilar. Alfonsina makes a final decision to live in the house near the spring. Alejandro arrives and she tells him that Justo made her leave town. Justo overhears Alejandro when he confesses still being in love with Alfonsina. Malena tells Alejandro what Pilar did to Alfonsina. Hector thanks Alvaro for always treating him like a son. Margarita and Justo make a plan to have their son leave town. Salvador demands Justo tell him where Alfonsina’s sister is buried.

Thursday-Justo ignores Salvadors’ acusations. Hector decides to fix the misunderstanding he caused. The memories haunt Alfonsina when she returns to her old home. Gertrudis asks Salvador to stop investigating the ‘dead’ baby. Barbara is willing to compensate Gilberto if he in return seduces Alfonsina. Margarita asks Pilar to help plan a party to celebrate Barbara and Alejandro’s upcoming wedding. Justo saves Gilberto from a beating dealing with his gambling debts. Barbara surprises Alejandro hugging Alfonsina.

Friday-Barbara insults Alfonsina for hugging Alejandro. Justo threatens Alvaro when he learns that he rented the old house to Alfonsina. Gilberto tries to win over Alfonsina. Barbara apologizes to Alfonsina and invites her to her engagement party. Justo starts asking Gilberto to pay him back. Alejandro feels displaced at the estate and wants to leave. Justo arrives at Alfonsina’s and starts threatening her. Gilberto wants what’s his and tells Barbara he’s telling all to Alejandro if she doesn’t start paying up.

9/5/03 – Justo tells Salvador he doesn’t know what he is talking about. Salvador tells Justo he is sure the child didn’t die and is closer than anyone thinks. Salvador tells Justo he will find the truth. On the way out, he tells Margarita much that had mystified him is becoming clear. Then he sees Alejandro, tells him the best way to help Alfonsina is to stay away from her.

Malena’s parents are worried that she will find the truth.

Margarita and Justo talk, guess that Gertrudis told Salvador something. Justo is sure that Alfonsina knows nothing.

Fermin agrees to help Alfonsina fix up the house. When she enters it, she rememebers the past, cries a bit. After Fermin leaves, she remembers Justo’s hitting her and raping her.

Salvador tells Gertrudis he is certain they are right, the girl is alive. Gertrudis tells him it will hurt many people if they prove it, she can’t support him.

Alejandro asks Héctor to watch out for Alfonsina. He goes to the house, finds her crying, asks if she is sure that she wants to live here. She says yes. He offers to help, says she can count on him for anything. She asks him if her uncle sent him; he says no.

In a restaurant, Justo talks with Alvaro, suggests they forget the matter of the Manantial until after the wedding. Alvaro agrees. Eloisa Casteñeda approaches them and greets them, leaves. Justo tells Alvaro she’s just a poor widow who has a business deal. Justo visits her later, she convinces him to let her stay in the pueblo.

Barbara and Gilberto’s sister visit him. Gilberto tells her that Alejandro beat him up because of Alfonsina. She tells him to get Alfonsina out of her life, make her fall in love with him. Gilberto tells her that he will need a stimulus, a kiss. So she gives him a quick one.

Fermin’s wife reproaches him for helping Alfonsina. And Gertrudis isn’t any happier, tells Alfonsina it will cause problems with his wife. Alfonsina tells her that they’re not doing anything wrong, shouldn’t live their lives for the satisfaction of others.

Alejandro asks his mother why she is arranging a party re his wedding without informing him. He thinks it is foolish, given that the wedding is so near. She tells him if it bothers him, he can call everybody and cancel the affair.

Malena and Héctor walk and talk. She asks him if he doesn’t like her at all. He tells her she is lovely. She asks him to give her a chance. He tells her it wouldn’t be fair to her. She tells him she is willing to take the risk, won’t reproach him if it doesn’t work out. He accepts.

Gilberto’s mother can’t find the money she was going to deposit. Gilberto, of course, has stolen it and gives it to Diego, but it is less than half of what he owes. Justo drives by just as Diego is about to beat him up again. Justo tells him to get into his car, and Gilberto admits they were going to beat him up for some debts, also admits that it was they not Alejandro who beat him up before.

Alejandro argues with Bárbara, can’t believe she believes Gilberto’s story that he beat him up because of Alfonsina.

Alfonsina reproaches her uncle for not arranging for the burial of her mother’s ashes. Gertrudis loses control, says it was because of her, says that her mother doesn’t deserve to be buried next to her husband, wasn’t a good wife, was a cualquiera. Alfonsina runs out of the ruin. Salvador tells Gertrudis she shouldn’t have.

Alejandro takes a walk, finds Alfonsina sitting on the sidewalk crying, comforts her. Bárbara, advised by her father that Alejandro’s car is still outside, takes his advice and goes after Alejandro, sees him with Alfonsina.

WEEK 6 – USA 9/8-12/03:

The party becomes one big farce of hypocrisy. Alfonsina arrives and is the center of attention. Gilberto confesses to Alfonsina his true intentions. The engagement is officially formalized. Alfonsina can’t stand to be hurt and leaves. Alejandro follows her, catches up to her, they argue and end up kissing.

Tuesday – Alfonsina doubts Alejandro’s words because he just got engaged to Barbara. Salvador finds them and worries about Alfonsina’s actions. Alejandro tells Barbara that the wedding’s off and she acts hysterically. Margarita and Justo figure out that the party was a bad idea, but still intend to go ahead with the wedding. Alfonsina rejects Alejandro when he goes looking for her leaving his sad. Barbara grabs a bottle of pills and calls Alejandro to say goodbye. Alejandro is worried when Barbara doesn’t respond to him.

Wednesday – Barbara takes advantage of her situation to manipulate Alejandro, later she confesses her plans to another person. Alfonsina is afraid to admit that she still loves Alejandro. At Francisca’s mass Margarita grabs Francisca’s urn and leaves determined to scatter her ashes on the street, but her plans don’t conclude the way she thought they would. Eloisa fells uncomfortable when she learns Malena’s full name. Alfonsina prefers distancing herself from Alejandro than to hurt him. Barbara makes Alejandro see she is a victim and tries to seduce him and succeeds.

Thursday – Barbara uses all her tricks to destroy Alfonsina. Alfonsina arrives at her house and finds her walls smeared of paint. Barbara motivates Gilberto giving him what he wants. Alejandro decides to stay and work at the ranch and tells Margarita to not attack Alfonsina again. Alejandro informs Alfonsina that he is willing to cut ties with his parents in order to have things like they were before and her response is surprising. Altagracia runs into Eloisa and bot h realize the seriousness of that encounter.

Friday – Altagracia and Eloisa confront each other for something that was left pending from the past. Salvador realizes he was wrong concerning Alfonsina’s lost sister. Malena tells Alejandro that Hector is interested in Alfonsina. Barbara argues with Gilberto over their deal and Margarita hears them. She wants to know what they were talking about and she lies. Justo intends to blackmail Gertrudis into making Alfonsina leave town. Alfonsina goes to the Ramirez house to challenge Justo because she knows Margarita ignores many things concerning him.

Alvaro tells Alfonsina he isn’t that good a person, is just trying to correct some errors of the past. Margarita tells Altagracia she doesn’t want to see Padre Salvador.

Alejandro visits Barbara who is still suffering, in bed, crying. She swears that she didn’t take the pills to blackmail him, just doesn’t know how to live without him. He tells her he isn’t worth all her suffering. She tells him she will always love him, embraces him, kisses him, almost succeeds in seducing him. But he stops, admits he wants her, but it wouldn’t be fair. He doesn’t love her. She begs, but her says no. Sex isn’t everything. He doesn’t want to hurt her more. Afterwards, she tells her mother it didn’t work, but her war with Alfonsina has hardly started.

Justo tells Salvador he is jealous of him because Margarita must tell him much in confession. Salvador answers that it is precisely because they have been friends for so long that he isn’t her confessor. Justo asks if he has learned anything more about Margarita’s child. Salvador doesn’t answer.

Alfonsina tells her aunt that Alvaro behaved very well with her.

Héctor tells Alejandro he is being selfish, insisting on trying to win Alfonsina will only hurt her.

Salvador takes Alfonsina and Gertrudis and their luggage to the house. When they arrive, graffiti is painted on the outside telling them to leave.

Justo has Gilberto rent a house in the name of Eloisa Castañeda, gives him cash for it.

Malena admits to her mother that sometimes she wonders what her real mother looked like. Justo tells Margarita that Alejandro has decided to stay, nothing is going as they wanted.

Héctor visits Alfonsina at her new house. Malena sees them kissing goodbye. Malena arrives, says it is time to go, is obviously jealous. Héctor leaves with her.

Alvaro comes home, learns that Bárbara got dressed up and went out.

Barbara tells Gilberto that she will comply with her part of the bargain as an incentive for him to conquer Alfonsina. When they are finished, Gilberto tells her it was worth the wait.

Alejandro tells his mother that Alfonsina wants nothing to do with him, tells her not to do anything to hurt the woman he loves. Alejandro tells her he is going to fight for Alfonsina, will take the consequences if it doesn’t work out.

In bed with Eloisa, Justo tells her that he has found her a house, asks her to be very discreet. She tells him that she met a young girl who works on his hacienda, Maria Magdalena Osuna. He tells her she’s the grandchild of some ancianos in the pueblo. Eloisa says she’s pretty. He tells her she must have gotten it from her mother, because Altagracia and Melesio aren’t.

Alfonsina and Altagracia unpack. Alfonsina finds it hard to go into the room Gertrudis has, the room where Justo raped her.

Melesio tells Salvador he’s concerned that Alejandro broke his engagement because of his advice not to marry without love. Salvador asks him to watch the house where Alfonsina lives, is afraid for them.

When Bárbara comes home, she explains away her lie, cries, says she is still very depressed.

In bad that night, Alfonsina thinks of her mother.

Altagracia visits Fermin’s wife who is upset that he is going to paint Alfonsina’s house, is still jealous of Gertrudis. Altagracia tells her not to worry.

En el campo, Alejandro talks with Alfonsina, tells her he is prepared to break with them if he has to. She tells him that he won’t. She tried to separate from her mother, and it turned out badly.

Gilberto tells ? that Alejandro broke up with Bárbara because of Alfonsina.

Eloisa (Marta) runs into Altagracia at the market. She hasn’t forgotten the woman who abandoned her daugther and grandson.

Margarita tells Justo that if Alejandro doesn’t forget Alfonsina, she will tell him about Justo and Francisca. Justo asks if she will also tell him about “el producto”, all she will gain is hatred for them and sympathy for Alfonsina. Margarita says she is prepared to take the risk, is the only card she has left.

Justo threatens Alfonsina and later does something terrible against Salvador.

Thursday – Alejandro rescues Salvador. Everyone is worried, but Margarita more than anyone else. Gilberto steals money and keeps gambling. Alfonsina accuses Justo of what happened to Salvador and insults him in front of Alejandro and Margarita. Gilberto denies stealing money from the bank and feigns being hurt by the accusation. Alvaro confronts Barbara concerning Alejandro. Alfonsina assures she will find proof to bury Justo. Salvador continues being unconscious. Maragarita visits him and kisses him. Gertrudis walks in and surprises her.

Friday – Gertrudis tells Margarita to respect Salvador. Alfonsina’s acusations against Justo have no foundation at the police station. In his delirious state, Salvador says that Francisca’s daughter is alive. Alfonsina arrives and hears him but Alvaro escorts her out of the room. Gilberto sees Justo kissing Eloisa. Salvador awakens and realizes he might have said something he shouldn’t have. Gilberto wants to take care of Alfonsina, but she rejects him. Alejandro begs Alfonsina to leave town so they can get married.

USA, 9/19/03 – Alfonsina’s uncle drives her home. After they leave the car, Justo sabotages it. Salvador has an accident driving back to his home when the brakes fail.

Alejandro accepts an invitation from Barbara to go to the movies, sees the accident on his way over, gets Salvador out of the car before it blows up, takes him to the clinic, calls Alvaro. Hector goes to Alfonsina’s home, tells them and takes them to the clinic. Margarita is very upset when Alejandro tells her. Barbara is furious when Alejandro doesn’t show up at the theatre.

Gilberto visits Alfonsina, asks her for a real chance. She tells him that she isn’t interested.

At the clinic, Alfonsina tells Alejandro and Margarita that she knows it was Justo’s fault, orders them to leave. Alejandro is offended. Alvaro advises Margarita and Alejandro to go. When Margarita gets home, she slaps Justo, warns him that if Alfonsina’s accusation is true, she will be the first to put him jail, tells him that she will never forgive Justo if Salvador dies. He doesn’t understand her concern; she tells him that Salvador is her friend, perhaps her only friend.

In the hospital, Gertrudis is about to enter Salvador’s room when she sees Margarita bending over him, kissing him.

WEEK 8 – USA 9/22-26/03:

Monday – Alejandro tells Alfonsina it’ll be the last time he will insist. She gives him a ray of hope and he leaves happy. Justo makes up a lie to explain Eloisa’s prescence. Gertrudis and Alfonsina discover Barbara and Gilberto’s lies. Alvaro becomes worried when he learns Hector likes Alfonsina. Alfonsina and Barbara have a confrontaion. Margarita swears that only over her dead body will she allow something between her son and her worst enemy’s daughter. Meanwhile at the spring (manantial) Alfonsina agrees to be Alejandro’s wife.

Tuesday – Alejandro promises to make Alfonsina happy and both agree to ask Salvador to marry them, but decide to keep it a secret for a while. Margarita visits Salvador at the clinic and Gertrudis is uneasy. Malena sees Justo kissing Eloisa, the three are surprised and later Justo threatens Malena not to say anything. Mirna is jealous of Gertrudis and confronts Fermin. Alejandro tells Justo he’s not going with him to Mexico and Justo is annoyed because he knows it’s because of Alfonsina. Margarita listens in on a telephone conversation of Alejandro’s and angrily tells him that Francisca was Justo’s lover.

Wednesday – Alejandro tells Margarita that neither he nor Alfonsina are to blame for Francisca’s mistakes. Alfonsina learns that her mother and Justo were lovers, but that doesn’t stop her plans to get married. Both Alejandro and Alfonsina realize that everyone has hidden many things from them. Fermin’s relationship with Mirna goes from bad to worse. Barbara confesses to Alejandro her relationship with Gilberto, but tells him it was because of spite. Alfonsina hummiliates Justo in front of his employees and he’s about to hit her. Desperate, Barbara kisses Alejandro just when Alfonsina approaches.

Thursday – Alfonsina falls into Barbara’s trap and tells Alejandro their relationship is over. Gilberto tells Pilar that Barbara looks for him. Alejandro tries to explain things to Alfonsina, but she doesn’t want to listen to reason and leaves town. Hector leaves Alvaro’s house after too many confrontaions with Pilar and Barbara. At the local bar, he meets up with Fermin whose wife has abandoned him, and both drown their sorrows. No one wants to tell Alejandro where Alfonsina is and he gets worried. Later when he arrives home he overhears his mother admit that she loves Salvador.

Friday – The image that Alejandro had of his mother has been destroyed. Alfonsina returns to the university and runs into her old friend Hugo and explains things to him. The memories haunt Alfonsina when she enters her apartment in Mexico City. Alejandro gets angry at the thought of seeing Alfonsina and Hugo together that he has an accident and crashes his truck in front of Alfonsina’s apartment building. Alfonsina is horrified when she looks outside and realizes that the victim of the accident is Alejandro.

USA, 9/26/03 – Alejandro finds Bárbara crying. Hécor and Alfonsina walk into them just as she is kissing him. Alejandro tells Alfonsina that he didn’t provoke it; she says he accepted it (which he did). Alejandro hits Héctor after he insults him. Alfonsina takes Héctor away. Bárbara pretends to be sorry. Alejandro realizes that it was a plan, tells Bárbara now he knows why his mother was so insistent on his seeing her. She, of course, denies it. He tells her that now he knows what kind of person she is, says they can’t be even friends.

Bárbara’s mother (Pilar) goes to Gilberto’s house, slaps him and tells him to stay away from Bárbara. After Pilar leaves, Gilberto’s mother asks for an explanation.

Alejandro accuses his mother of planning it. She, very calmly, denies it. She tells him he is just infatuated; he says she doesn’t know him. Margarita calls Bárbara, asks for all the details.

Alfonsina returns home, tells her aunt that she went to see Justo, to pay him back for paying the clinic bill. She tells Gertrudis that she isn’t going to marry Alejandro. Alejandro calls Alfonsina but she won’t talk to him. Altagracia tells him not to give up, to go after her. When he gets to her house, Gertrudis tells him that Alfonsina has left San Andrés, has gone to Mexico and probably won’t return.

Gilberto’s mother accuses Maria Eugenia of knowing about him and Bárbara. She admits it.

Héctor accuses Bárbara of planning the encounter. She asks him what it matters to him, Alfonsina stole Alejandro from her. Héctor tells Bárbara it is playing dirty, and Alejandro always loved Alfonsina. Pilar comes in and tells Héctor to leave the house. He agrees. Pilar tells Bárbara they have to come up with a story for her father. Pilar tells Alvaro that Héctor is a mediocrity who insulted her and Bárbara. Alvaro doesn’t believe her.

Padre Salvador tells Gertrudis that Alfonsina shouldn’t keep running away from her problems.

When Margarita finds Alejandro crying, she asks him what kind of woman would turn a mother against a child, he asks her what kind of mother would hurt her own son. Margarita says he is wrong, she is trying to keep him from going down the wrong path. He tells her that Alfonsina is the woman he loves.

Alejandro goes to Malena’s house, asks her where Alfonsina would be in Mexico.

Alejandro hears his mother confessing to Altagracia that she loves Salvador, has always loved him.

She confesses to Alejandro that as a teenager she was raped by one of her mother’s lovers. Alejandro is livid and wants to know the name of the man who did her all that harm. She doesn’t reveal tohim that it was his father. Alejandro comforts Alfonsina and promises that he’ll help her and will always be by her side no matter what. Hugo learns that Alfonsina and Alejandro are married and he wishes her well. Altagracia tells Malena that Eloisa is her mother.

Wednesday – Malena is angry that they hid the truth from her and declines Hector’s help. Alejandro and Alfonsina return to town determined to confront what awaits them. Fermin and Gertrudis reconcile. Gilberto steals money and a gun from Justo’s office. Margarita recieves Alejandro with a slap and he tells her that they will very soon learn about a big secret. Altagracia and Melesio fear that they have lost their granddaughter’s after she leaves them. Esteban demands his money from Gilberto, they fight and the gun goes off.

Thursday – Alejandro finds Gilberto badly injured and dies in his arms. Esteban is on the run with Mirna. Everyone is impacted with Gilberto’s death, in particular Barbara, but Pilar tells her to tone it down a little. Mendoza suspects that the gun that was used to kill Gilberto belongs to Justo and questions Margarita. Justo is living it up with Eloisa in Mexico. Gilberto draws his gun on the men to whom he owes money, but he is shot during a struggle for the gun. The men run off.

Alfonsina return home; Alejandro finds Gilberto and he dies in Alejandro’s arms.

Esteban packs to leave at once.

Malena moves in with Alfonsina.

Lic.Armando Mendoza questions Alejandro then goes to Gilberto’s house and tells his father Sr. Morales that Gilberto is dead.

Alejandro goes home, tells his mother that he found Gilberto injured, died in his arms. Then Alejandro calls Barbara to give her the news. Her parents don’t quite understand the depth of her reaction.

Gilberto’s father asks Mendoza who killed him. Mendoza says he doesn’t know, has the gun.

The next day, Mendoza learns that the gun belongs to Justo. Joel and his wife feel guilty for the death of Gilberto. Salvador tells Alfonsina. Mendoza shows the gun to Margarita, asks if she recognizes it. She tells him to ask her husband.

Everybody goes to the funeral. Bárbara faints. Margarita reads the prayers at the wake. Alejandro and Alfonsina arrive. Alejandro tells Joel that Gilberto said nothing. Margarita talks alone with Alejandro, tells him about the gun.

Wednesday – Barbara is horrified when she learns she’s pregnant, but Pilar calms her down. Alejandro is able to get out of jail with Justo’s help. Margarita finds Alejandro’s wedding ring and makes up a horrible lie to stop Alejandro and Alfonsina from getting married by the church. She tells them they are brother and sister and all present are impacted by the confession.

Thursday – Margarita’s lie takes effect because Alfonsina crying runs away from the estate. Alejandro begs Justo to take a DNA test, but he denies to. Gertrudis assures Alfonsina that her father is Rigoberto Valdez and not Justo Ramirez. Fermin finds Mirna at Esteban’s residence and a fight ensues. Alfonsina learns that Alejandro spent the night with Barbara. Salvador suggests that if a DNA test is done to include Hector to see if he’s Justo’s son.

USA, 10/10/03 – Alejandro, desperate at the thought that Alfonsina is his sister, gets drunk. Bárbara sees Héctor trying to walk him home. Bárbara puts him into her car and takes him to her house where she tries to seduce him. He falls asleep, she undresses him, puts him in bed, the usual.

Salvador finds Alfonsina crying by the river, assures her that she is the daughter of his brother. But Alfonsina tells him that nobody knows what happened between her mother and Justo.

Justo suggests to Margarita that Alejandro might be with Bárbara. She doubts it but calls and Pilar answers. But Margarita asks for Héctor not Alejandro and Pilar says he no longer lives there. Margarita hangs up.

Alfonsina tells Malena who tells her not to believe it. Alfonsina says a DNA test would prove it, but Justo won’t give a sample.

Justo barges into Alfonsina’s house, demands to know where her son is, swears at Alfonsina, curses having known her mother.

Alejandro wakes up the next morning, finds himself in bed with Bárbara who wakes a moment later and makes him believe what seems apparent.

Alvaro becomes furious when he sees Alejandro coming downstairs, is sure that Pilar knew, that’s why she wouldn’t let him say goodnight to Bárbara the previous evening. Alejandro staggers out the door, wonders what he did. In her home, Alfonsina asks Malena to find out if Alejandro is ok.

In a hotel in the pueblo where Fermin has been looking for Mirna, he hears her and their son, walks into the room and sees her with another man, Esteban, who taunts him. The two men fight. Esteban pulls a knife, grabs the child. The hotel owner kicks Fermin out.

Alvaro is furious with Bárbara and Pilar. Bárbara makes matters worse when she tells him it is hardly the first time that she and Alejandro have slept together and tells her father that he hasn’t the moral right to judge her. He storms out, but Bárbara tells her mother she doesn’t care, got what she wanted.

Alejandro talks with Héctor. Héctor tells him what happened. Alejandro tells him his part of the story.

Alvaro goes to Margarita and Justo, demands that Alejandro marry Bárbara.

Alfonsina feels that something is wrong, tells her aunt that she always wanted a brother or sister, never thought it would be Alejandro. Gertrudis says it isn’t true, suggests that she go away for a while. Alfonsina refuses to give Justo and Margarita that pleasure.

Just as Malena is talking to her abuela in Margarita’s kitchen, a worker come in, says that Melesio took ill. They go out to the field. He insists he is fine, makes it clear there is no need for Malena. She leaves.

Alejandro finds his parents with Alvaro, tells him that Alfonsina might be Justo’s daughter, refuses to stay and talk. Justo tells Alvaro nobody knows for sure, but the possibility exists.

Alfonsina goes to Héctor. At first, he doesn’t tell her where Alejandro was, just that he is ok. But she insists and he tells her.

Margarita tells her son that they can annul his marriage. He tells her that it is Alfonsina he loves. She accuses him of playing with the feelings of a good girl who is in love with him. He tells her that he will marry Bárbara if a DNA test proves he and Alfonsina are related.

Esteban, Mirna and her son are kicked out of the hotel.

Alfonsina tells Malena where Alejandro spent the night, says that he has the right to find love where he can. Malena asks Alfonsina if she will do the same. Alfonsina says it is different.

Salvador arrives at Justo’s house and, in front of Pilar and Alvaro, tells them he has a way to find the truth: compare the DNA of Héctor and Alfonsina with Justo’s to find out which is Justo’s child by Francisca..

Monday – Justo says there’s no need for a DNA test because the baby was born dead. Barbara makes fun of Alfonsina telling her she wasn’t able to give him what she did. Alejandro tells Justo that if Alfonsina is in reality his sister than she deserved half of the estate. Hugo gives Alejandro divorce papers from Alfonsina.

Tuesday – Alejandro confronts Alfonsina about sending him her lawyer. Barbara buys a wedding dress. Joel acusses Justo of supporting Gilbert’s habits. Alvaro opposes that Hector wants something with Alfonsina. It’s discovered that Alvaro was Justo’s cover in buying the spring from Francisca. Justo confesses all his crimes to Salvador and threatens to finish him off like he did with Father Juan years earlier.

Wednesday – Salvador warns Justo that he won’t escape divine justice. Alvaro tells Barbara that she can’t marry Alejandro because he’s already married to Alfonsina. Salvador denies Margarita communion and she slaps him. The water in town is becoming scarce so the spring has become fundamental. Alejandro jealous asks Alfonsina why she’s out with Hugo. Barbara begins to manipulate Alejandro concerning her pregnancy. Hector tells Alfonsina he loves her and Malena overhears him.

Thursday – Malens returns to her grandparents house. Alfonsina tells Hector that they can’t even be friends. Justo deviously stels the springs water so his properties won’t dry out. Fermin asks Gertrudis for a chance. Alejandro calls Hector a traitor and hypocrite. Margarita offers Hugo a bribe to speed up Alejandro’s divorce. Eloisa tells Margarita that she’s expecting Justo’s child.

Friday – Margarita tells Justo she’s not going to allow history to repeat itself with Eloisa. Hector asks Alfonsina for a chance, but she rejects him. Justo tells Eloisa to lose the child and she threatens to cause a scandal. Alejandro wants to know if he has any other half-siblings. Malena confronts Hector about his behavior and she promises to forget him. While saving Melesio’s life Alejandro is gored by a bull and is severely injured.

Padre Salvador, on request from Norma, goes to visit Joel to try to uplift him and encourage him to wake up and care for his wife and daughter. Padre tells Joel he never lost a son but he felt just the same pain when he lost his brother. Joel says its not the same, your brother was a good man, my son wasn’t...

Padre S also visited the Ramirez... found Justo, Margarita and Alvaro there... Padre was glad they were all there since the subject concerned all of them, he wanted Justo to take the DNA test to see if Hector was his son with Francisca. Justo obviously denied anything. Down comes Alejandro, says to Padre he had already tried to convince Justo to no avail. After Justo and Margarita leave the room, Padre tries to convince Alvaro, but Alvaro says he knows nothing about that test... (yeah, right!).

Later on Alejandro meets with Alfonsina and tells her he has not given up on their relationship. She says its no use, go make your own life... he says never! she reminds him how quickly he went to Barbara’s arms even if she was the one who suggested it to him.

Hector is visited by Gilberto’s sister, she takes him on his word to talk and go somewhere... they go walking and go for hot dogs, Malena sees them and becomes very sad... goes to Alfonsina for consolation...

The other guy (can’t remember his name) finds where his wife and son are, parks at the entrance of the building until the other guy comes out, there is a fight, the mother decides to give him little Rigoberto, he brings his son back to San Andres... the woman later has a fight with Esteban in front of Eloisa and Eloisa hears that she has just given her own son away...

Alfonsina decides to begin spending her money and rebuild the ‘huerta’ that her father loved... she goes to visit Alvaro, wants to buy the manantial from him, but Alvaro keeps insisting it is his ‘patrimonio’ for Barbara, Alfonsina insists that Barbara would not want it but Alvaro won’t give...

Justo overhears that Alfonsina gave water from the manantial to other farmers who needed it... his own farm is becoming in need of water...

Justo on horse finds Alfonsina and they argue, he actually tells her he paid for the Manantial, but Alfonsina is so mad at that moment that I am not sure she actually realized what he said...

Barbara and Pilar leave without saying goodbye to Alvaro.

Before leaving Barbara goes to find Alfonsina at her house to brag to her that she was able to give Alejandro what Alfonsina couldn’t. Alvaro gets mad when Barb/Pilar call him from Houston... Barbara tells Pilar she will wait a while to return, meanwhile will buy everything she needs for the wedding...

Alejandro later finds Justo outside and tells him he is beginning to believe he and Alf are siblings but that means she has the right to half of Piedras grandes, so if Justo will give her at least the manantial, he will believe him... Justo says no way! he won’t even give her the ‘buenos dias!’... Ale says that must mean they are not related after all... Alejandro asks Padre S what it takes for the test. Padre says a blood sample AND Justo’s consent... Alejandro says ‘me lleva!’... but promises Padre he will find the way to get it.

The episode ends when Hugo arrives at the Ramirez house to give Alejandro the divorce papers from Alfonsina.

USA, 10/17/03 – Barbara has lunch with Margarita who assures her that Alejandro will marry her.

Margarita visits Hugo, gives him money to speed up the divorce. Hugo says that Alejandro offered him money for just the opposite. He returns the money, says he isn’t for sale. She tells him to consider his interests.

Eloisa visits Margarita, tells her that she is pregnant, doubts that Justo will deny to recognize his own child. Margarita tells her that she shouldn’t be so sure. Later, Margarita tells Justo who denies it, says it isn’t possible. Margarita tells him she will not support another bastard.

Salvador tells Alfonsina he is surprised that she has given up so easily re Alejandro. She tells him that it took effort, but she thinks it is the best for him. Then Salvador asks Alfonsina about Héctor. She assures him that she cares for him, but more like a brother. Besides, Malena loves him.

Gertrudis talks with Hugo about his feelings for Hugo. She asks him to make his feelings for Alfonsina clear, but to leave her alone if she asks him to.

Héctor stops Alfonsina as she leaves the church. He begs for a chance, asks what is wrong with him. She tells him to stop, all she feels for him is a special affection.

Salvador talks with Héctor, asks him if he is sure about his feelings for Alfonsina, tells him he has to forget her, that she thinks of him only as a brother.

Bárbara meets with Alejandro, apologizes for her behavior before, had just found out that he is married. Alfonsina sees them. Bárbara tells him she doesn’t expect him to feel a responsibility because of what happened between them.

Justo visits Eloisa, tells her there is no proof the child is his. She is insulted, tells him she expects him to accept his I. He tells her to get rid of it. She refuses, says she will have it with or without him.

Justo tells Margarita he can’t do anything; Eloisa threatened a scandal. Margarita tells him she is not prepared to deal with any more bastards. Alejandro walks in, asks what they mean. They say he misunderstood, then that is was just a manner of speaking. He doesn’t believe them, says that if he has other brothers, he will find out.

Hugo walks with Alfonsina, tells her that Alejandro offered him money to postpone things, Margarita to speed them up. She asks what he did; he says he told them he couldn’t do anything. Hugo asks Alfonsina to give him a chance; she tells him she can’t, she loves Alejandro. He asks her to give him a chance. She tells him it wouldn’t be fair to him. He kisses her lightly, asks her to think about it, promises to accept her decision.

Eloisa walks up to Malena on the street, says she wants her to know that she is back in town.

Alejandro asks Alvaro if Justo had other children besides him, doesn’t mean Alfonsina because he thinks that is a lie. Alvaro asks him why he thinks he would know, gets angry. Alejandro tells him that he always thought he was a good man; if he learns differently.... After Alejandro leaves, Alvaro washes his hands with alcohol.

Héctor apologizes to Malena, says he didn’t want to hurt her. She tells him that he did, should have been honest with her. She asks him to go and he does.

Eloisa finds Justo packing her clothes when she goes back to her hotel. He tells her that he will support her, but she has to go away. She says she isn’t young, is afraid, wants his support during the pregnancy. He tells her to hire somebody, says that things between them won’t be the same from now on. She says she isn’t leaving. They agree that she will return to the house they rented.

Alfonsina tells Gertrudis about Hugo’s declaration, then confesses what happened on her wedding night. Alfonsina tells Gertrudis that is why she decided not to fight for Alejandro. Gertrudis suggests it could have been just because it was Alejandro’s father who raped her. Alfonsina doesn’t think so.

Pilar talks with Margarita, says she doesn’t understand how Justo could have gotten involved with Francisca. Pilar says she understands, now that she knows Alvaro is Héctor’s father. Margarita almost chokes. Pilar says he denied it, but she knows.

Bárbara visits Alfonsina, says it must be awful to be in love with one’s own brother. Bárbara asks her not to fight the divorce. Alfonsina says she isn’t sure that Bárbara is the best woman for Alejandro. Bárbara says they would have been happily married if Alfonsina hadn’t appeared, then leaves.

Melesio feels faint, falls off a high fence, into a bull ring. Alejandro and two other men manage to get him out in time, but Alejandro is gored badly as he climbs the fance, falls and hits his head.

WEEK 12: USA 10/20-24/03:

Monday – Everyone is alarmed to see the grave condition that Alejandro is in. Justo blames Melesio for the accident and he throws him off his ranch. Alfonsina is worried about Alejandro and wants too see him but is thrown out of the clinic. She tells Margarita that she has all the rights to see Alejandro considering she is his sister, isn’t she? Justo tells Alvaro that if he saves Alejandro he’ll give him the spring. Alfonsina prays for Alejandro to be saved. Alfonsina and Salvador wonder if the fact that Justo just donated blood if they can get a sample and ask Alvaro to help them.

Tuesday – Alvaro tells them it’s illegal to steal someone’s blood but doesn’t stop them. He tells Salvador and Alfonsina thay they are on their own and he looks the other way. Alfonsina confesses that she will support anything that comes her way except Alejandro’s demise. Alvaro tells Justo that Alejandro might lose his leg and Justo threatens to kill him. Alfonsina goes to the clinic but Barbara denies her entrance. Eloisa fights with Justo, they argue and she falls down the stairs and is killed.

Wednesday – Justo is terrified when he sees Eloisa motionless. Hector and Hugo fight over Alfonsina while she is able to see Alejandro and he tells her he can’t live without her. Joel assures Margarita that now she knows what it’s like to suffer for your child. Justo who has put Eloisa’s body in a trunk and is dragging it outside is surprised when Malena pays a visit to her mother. Justo tells her he’s throwing away some books. Alfonsina is anxiously waiting for the DNA results. The trunk with Eloisa’s body sinks on the bed of the spring. Justo finds Salvador’s picture and questions Margarita.

Thursday – Margarita revela to Justo that she and Salvador dated when they were young and Justo goes looking for the priest and beats him up. Maru calls Alfonsina a manstealer and they fight. Hugo insists on conquering Matilde. Maru flirts openly with Hector and Joel catches them and a scandal ensues. Barbara and Pilar worry that Alejandro might have a limp. Alfonsina prays at Rigoberto’s grave for the results of the DNA test to prove that he is her father and not Justo. Malena and Margarita pressure Justo to tell them where Eloisa is.

Friday – Justo invents a lie telling them that Eloisa went to San Luis because Male isn’t important to her. Melesio helps Alfonsina talk to Alejandro and Barbara is dying from jealousy. Alfonsina announces that she is going to open her father and sisters’ graves in order to cremate any remains and Gertrudis is terrified at what her niece will discover. Margarita takes Alejandro home prematurely. Salvafor tells Gertrudis to tell Alfonsina the truth. Mirna returns for her son and sees Fermin and Gertrudis kissing.

USA, 10/24/30 - In the hospital, a recovering Alejandro tells Melesio that he still loves Alfonsina.

Lic. Mendoza questions Fermin about Esteban, says he is wanted for the murder of Gilberto.

Malena asks Justo where her mother is. Justo says that if she hasn’t called, it’s because she didn’t care. Malena tells Justo that Eloisa was sick, wouldn’t just have disappeared. Margarita enters the room and asks the same question. He tells her that Eloisa came to the pueblo solely for him and his money. Margarita supports Justo, says the woman doesn’t deserve her love or concern. Justo asks her to be discreet. After Malena leaves, Margarita asks Justo for the truth. He tells her that he took Eloisa to San Luis, and she has decided to have an abortion – in exchange for money. Justo assures Margarita that Eloisa will never again bother them.

Norma Morales finds Hugo in the store. He says Malena had to go out for a moment.

Gilberto’s sister talks with Bárbara, says her father blames Justo for Gilberto’s death because he supported his gambling – which led to his murder.

Justo, on a horse, terrorizes Alfonsina, reminds her of that night. Gertrudis throws rocks at Justo who laughs as he rides away.

Norma reprimands Malena for leaving her job, and putting it in the care of an unknown.

Melesio visits Alfonsina, tells her that Alejandro asked him to tell her how much he loves her. Alfonsina tells him they have a phone now.

Bárbara visits Alejandro in the Hospital. Melesio calls, Bárbara answers, then Melesio calls and turns the phone to Alejandro. She knows he is with Bárbara, understands he must be discreet.

Alfonsina tells Gertrudis she has decided to disinterr the bodies of her father and sister, because the grave hasn’t been well-maintained, have the remains cremated and spread over the Manantial. Gertrudis raises all kinds of objections that Alfonsina denies.

Margarita invites Malena to eat with her, asks if she is really concerned about that woman. Malena tells her that she is pregnant with a sibling. Margarita tells Malena that Justo gave her money which is all that interested her. Margarita asks Malena not to say anything to anybody.

Norma tells her daughter that she shouldn’t rely on Barbara as her only friend.

While Alejandro is asleep in the hospital, Margarita comes in. Bárbara says she is sure that Alfonsina called him. Héctor visits Alfonsina who tells him to tell his admirers, Malena and Maru, in peace. She pushes him out the door.

Bárbara assures Alvaro that she and Alejandro will be back together soon.

Margarita tells Alvaro that she wants to take Alejandro home, can care for him better there. Alvaro tells her that she only wants to do it to keep Alfonsina away from him, and he won’t permit it until Alejandro is ready.

Gertrudis tells Salvador what Alfonsina wants to do with the grave. She tells him she hasn’t the courage to face Alfonsina with the truth, how she let Justo take her brother away and how that brother may be Héctor.

Alfonsina goes to Alejandro’s hospital room, but he has been taken home. She finds the “necklace” on the floor, holds it and smiles. In his home, Alfonsina gives Alejandro Alfonsina’s phone number.

Gertrudis visits Fermin, kisses him just as his wife enters.

WEEK 13: USA 10/27-31/03:

Monday – Fermin informs Mirna that the police are looking for Esteban, she gets alarmed and runs off. Barbara looks for Justo’s support while Margarita controls Alejandro’s calls and visits. Alvaro and Justo fight over the spring and Barbara worries how that will affect her relationship with Alejandro. Gertrudis gets depressed over her situation with Fermin. Esteban confesses to Mirna that he indeed kill Gilberto. Justo is watching Alfonsina’s house. Salvador gives Alfonsina the results of the DNA results and they reveal what she already knew.

Tuesday – Alfonsina relieved to read the results tries to inform Alejandro about them but an angry Margarita disconnects the phone along with all the other phones in the house. Hugo learns that Alfonsina has no intention of divorcing Alejandro. Fermin decides to tell the police where Mirna is because he fears for her life. Alvaro learns that Barbara has left home. Alfonsina asks Malena for help in getting the results to Alejandro. Later, Altagracia hides the results in Alejandro’s lunch tray but gets alarmed when Barbara grabs the tray from her. Alejandro angry that Barbara is living at the house grabs the napkin and the envelope falls out. Alejandro learns that Rigoberto Valdez is Alfonsina’s father. Rigoberto (Fermin’s son) pays Gertrudis a visit and at that moment Alfonsina hears a noice and sees Alejandro who has gone looking for her. He asks her if she can forgive him for what happened with Barbara and they kiss.

Wednesday* - Alfonsina is able to forgive Alejandro and tells him she’s not divorcing him. Alejandro asks her how they got a sample of Justo’s blood for the DNA tests and she confesses what she and Salvador did. At first she thinks he’ll get mad but tells her that he thanks God for Father Salvador. They later walk through the fields reliving the moments when they first met and when they fell in love. Gertrudis and Barbara also relive moments from the past. Alfonsina learns that Barbara is living at the ranch and Alejandro assures her that he loves her and that Barbara means nothing to him. Fermin tells Gertrudis his decision to tell the police where Mirna is. Alfonsina tells Alejandro that she knows Justo is the owner of the spring and that he’s disppointed in him for not telling her. He assures her that he just found out that information and that he didn’t tell her because he hadn’t had a chance to comment it to her. Alfonsina assures Alejandro that she is positive that Justo burned her father’s orchards years earlier. Alejandro tells Alfonsina that he doesn’t want to leave her, but she assures him that they will be together.

Thursday – Alejandro arrives home and realizes his wound has opened from all the walking he did. Pilar tells Barbara it’s time to tell Alejandro that she’s pregnant. Alfonsina tells Gertrudis that she will soon be married by the church. Justo throws Malena and her grandparents from the ranch for helping Alejandro see Alfonsina. Alfonsina feels guilty for the injury that Alejandro has suffered. Pilar insults Alvaro and he answers back saying that he’s divorcing her. Hector visits Alfonsina and in a unflattering way tries to show Alfonsina how much he loves her.

Friday – Gertrudis throws Hector out of her house. Margarita blames Alfonsina for Alejandro’s condition and tells her that he’s in danger of losing his leg. The police arrest Esteban and Mirna. Alfonsina helps Malena and her grandparents with their living situation. Margarita wants to reconcile with Melesio and Altagracia. Alfonsina asks Hugo to stop trying to pursue her. Hector discovers something that will help him in learning who his parents are.

*Wednesday’s episode originally aired on Christmas Eve 2001. Most of the hour will deal with flashbacks and memories.

USA, 10/31/03 – Gertrudis tells Héctor he can’t kiss Alfonsina, doesn’t tell him the real reason, just says that Alfonsina and Alejandro aren’t related and love each other.

Justo forces Malena and her parents to leave the hacienda.

Alvaro leaves Pilar who, it appears, has always thought that Héctor is his son.

Fermin tells Héctor that he loves Alfonsina because she loves Alejandro and he has always been in competition with Alejandro. Héctor denies it.

In San Luis Potosi, Lic. Mendoza searches for Esteban Rosales.

Alfonsina tells Padre Salvador that she and Alejandro are going to marry.

Hugotells Gertrudis that he will leave the pueblo after the exhumation, mentions that he will need the death certificates. After he leaves, she burns them.

Alfonsina finds Margarita waiting for her. Margarita tells her that Alejandro’s life is in danger, that he could lose a leg and her behavior is endangering his life!

At the bus station, Lic. Mendoza finds Esteban and Mirna. Esteban is shot while trying to escape.

Margarita tells Justo and she and Alejandro want Altagracia, Melesio and Malenda back.

Bárbara seeks comfort from Alejandro because her parents have separated.

Hugo reproaches Alfonsina for going back to Alejandro. She tells him he is not being fair, that she has always been honest with him.

Héctor finds his birth certificate in Salvador’s office, demands to know if Salvador knows his real parents.

WEEK 14: USA 11/3-7/03:

Margarita and Barbara have a confrontation about Alejandro. Hector appreciates Alfonsina’s help. Barbara tells Alejandro she’s expecting his child.

Tuesday – Alejandro tells Barbara that he will take responsibility for his child but he will not divorce Alfonsina and marry her. Despite the dry lands Alfonsina decides to continue with the plans her father had for the orchards. Justo learns the DNA tests were done without his authorization. Alfonsina and Malena travel to Mexico City to buy Alfonsina’s wedding dress. The police arrest Salvador for falsifying the signature on the DNA tests.

Wednesday – When the police take Salvador he sees Justo enjoying the scene. Barbara realizes her pregnancy is starting to show. Gertrudis assures Justo that Alfonsina is not in town, he blames her for Rigoberto’s death and she suffers a crisis that explodes with Altagracia as a witness. Barbara proves to Alejandro she’s having his child and he’s now in a desperate state. Altagracia pressured by Alfonsina confesses to her that her aunt is ill.

Thursday – Altagracia now pressured by Gertrudis tells Alfonsina that her aunt only has a headache. Alfonsina doesn’t believe her and wants to return to San Andres, but Malena is able to calm her down. Norma makes a pact with Maru that until she decides what to study she wants her to help her in her business. Alejandro is surprised to learn that Salvador is in jail. Barbara sees her doctor and tells him to be discreet. Lupe informs Alfonsina that her uncle is in jail and she decides to return to San Andres. Salvador is let go when Alejandro takes the blame for falsifying the signature and proves it by singing Justo’s signature. Alfonsina finds Alejandro when Barbara arrives and tells her she’s expecting his child.

Friday – Alfonsina desperate doesn’t want to hear Alejandro and decides to go ahead with the divorce. Joel tells Maru that he accepts that she study elsewhere. Justo discovers that Barbara only wants to have the baby for ambition. Alfonsina asks Hector for help in her project. Alvaro gets angry when he learns Barbara is having a baby. Justo visits the Bishop in regards to Salvador. Barbara asks Justo not to tell Alejandro what he overheard and he asks her to join him in destroying Alfonsina.

USA, 11/7/03 – While Alfonsina and Alejandro are talking in the square (she is making plans for the future, he is trying to tell her about Barbara), Barbara appears and tells Alfonsina that she is pregnant. Alejandro admits that Barbara is pregnant. Alf goes cold, won’t let him say anything else, walks away and tells Padre Salvador.

Gertrudis tries to convince that she isn’t the woman he thinks she is, that she has made many mistakes in her life. She tells him to go back to Mirna. He tells her that he loves her, not Mirna.

Alejandro tells Barbara that he doesn’t believe her (either that she’s pregnant or that the baby is his) and, in any case, he won’t marry her.

Alfonsina tells Gertrudis about Barbara’s pregnancy, says that this time her marriage really is over.

Justo is angry with Alejandro for getting Salvador out of jail (I think Ale told the police that he forged his father’s signature – don’t know if that is true).

Alfonsina has dinner with Hugo, thanks him for helping get Salvador out of prison, tells him that this time she really does want to go through with the divorce.

Justo overhears an argument between Barbara and her mother in which it becomes clear that she is marrying Alejandro for his money. He bursts into the room, furious. She tells him that he misunderstood. He tells her that if it weren’t for her pregnancy, he would kick her out of the house.

Margarita tells Alvaro that Barbara is pregnant. But Alvaro doesn’t want yet another unhappy, forced marriage in the family.

Alfonsina tells Alejandro that she doesn’t want to spend her whole life having to “get along with” Barbara because of the child.

Justo visits the bishop, to talk about Padre Salvador.

Barbara begs Justo not to tell Alejandro, tries to convince him she really loves Alejandro. Justo is willing to reach an agreement with her: they get rid of Alfonsina, she gets Alejandro.

WEEK 15: USA 11/10-14/03:

Tuesday - Alejandro and Alfonsina sign the documents that begins the process of their divorce. Alfonsina tells Hugo that she wants to get to know him. Melesio tells Alejandro to fight for his true love. Alfonsina is thrilled to see Fermin constructing the tree nursery and that Hector has decided to help out. The bishop tells Salvador that he has a month to leave San Andres. Alejandro tells Alfonsina he’s going to fight for her. Barbara asks Justo to use his influence to accelerate the second meeting of the divorce proceedings. Barbara returns her engagement ring to Alejandro. Someone spies on Alfonsina’s house and when she returns a terrible attempt on her life occurs, she’s shot.

Wednesday - Gertrudis is horrified to see Alfonsina injured. Alejandro arrives just in time to take her to the clinic. Alvaro attends to Alfonsina. She blames Justo though she didn’t see who shot her. Malena assured her grandmother that she’s over Hector and has decided to leave the ranch. Alejandro confronts his father about hurting Alfonsina and he denies doing anything to harm her. Justo takes legal steps to protect himself. Altagracia tells Salvador that someone shot Alfonsina. The person who shot Alfonsina is none other than Barbara.

Thursday – Margarita who has discovered the truth makes Barbara give her the rifle. Salvador gets after Gertrudisr not advising him about what happened to Alfonsina. Alejandro doesn’t learn that Barbara is the responsible party, but concludes that his parents were not involved. Alvaro is happy that Barbara has returned home and asks him something in regard to the spring. Alfonsina appreciates what Alejandro has done for her and he promises he’s not going to bother her anymore. Alvaro tells Pilar that he’s going to divorce her and she tells him something he doesn’t expect. Salvador and Justo confront each other. Hector tells Alfonsina that he loves her. Fermin tells Mirna his decision to get a divorce. Alvaro shocks Alfonsina when he tells her that she’s the woman he would have wanted to share his life with.

Friday - Alfonsina tells Alvaro to leave and he explains that he would have wanted someone like her and that he doesn’t love her, but has great respect and admiration for her. Javier, Gilberto’s friend asks Justo for a job. Alfonsina tells Gertrudis that Alvaro got after her for constructing the nursery. Alejandro asks Barbara about the attempt on Alfonsina’s life. Alfonsina at home with Altagracia suffers another incident, this time more serious. Pilar has convinced some of the townspeople to lynch Alfonsina. Justo asks Melesio for help in gathering a collection to buy Salvador a new car. Salvador and Gertrudis arrive just in time to help save Alfonsina. Alejandro looks for Alfonsina and Gertrudis tells him to leave her niece alone so no one can hurt her anymore. Pilar confesses the terrible act she commited against Alfonsina. Malena confesses to Alejandro that Eloisa is excpecting Justo’s child.

USA, 11/14/03 – In her bedroom, Alvaro (there to examine her arm) tells Afonsina that he feels something very special for her, asks her not to misunderstand him. But she is frightened. He tries to explain that he would have liked to have had a wife, or a daughter, like her. Gertrudis comes in.

Mirna visits Salvador, tells him that Fermin loves another, asks him to talk to Fermin. She says she wants to make up for her errors.

Javier Jimenez, a “friend” of Gilberto Morales, talks with Justo, asks for a job, says he is willing to do anything.. Norma’s daughter introduces herself to Hugo, tells him she wants to study law, asks for advice on where to apply. She gives him a quick kiss good-bye.

Alejandro visits Barbara and she insists that he come to her bedroom. She asks him to touch her stomach, to feel the baby. She tells him she is ashamed at the thought of people seeing her. Barbara becomes angry when Ale asks her where she was the night before, because somebody shot Alfonsina. Ale leaves.

Malena tells Alejandro she is afraid she will never fall in love with the right man. He compliments her. He tells that he, too, needs to find somebody else, definitely not Barbara.

Barb’s mother gets together a mob to burn down Alfonsina’s house. Altagracia, who has been visiting Alfonsina, goes out to defend her. She doesn’t succeed, goes back inside. Alfonsina tries to get to the phone. Salvador arrives in time to turn back the crowd, but Barbara’s mother throws a burning branch into the house. Salvador insists that Alfonsina and Gertrudis go to his home.

Rigoberto tells his father that he wants his mother back. Gertrudis visits Fermin, tells him to give Mirna another chance. Then Gertrudis visits Salvador.

Justo asks Melesio to help him get a collection from the people of the pueblo to buy Salvador a new car. He surprises Melesio.

When Altagracia tells Margarita, Ale and Justo what happened, Ale accuses his parents of arranging it. Alta says it was Pilar, that Alfonsina has gone to Salvador’s house. Ale goes to see her. Gertrudis isn’t happy to see him, tells him to stay out of the situation since he, after all, is the cause. Gertrudis tells Ale that the best way to help Alfonsina is to leave her in peace. Alf watches him walk away from the house. Then he looks up at the window briefly..

Hector and Hugo talk about Alfonsina. Hector warns Hugo not to hurt Alfonsina.

Pilar and Barbara gloat. Pilar explains that money can buy anything. Ale rushes in and Pilar says she isn’t sorry. Pilar tells Alejandro that lots of people feel just like her. He swears the two will pay if anything happens to Alfonsina. He leaves and Barbara turns on her mother.

Malena tells Ale that her mother is pregnant with “their” sibling.

Margarita questions Barbara about the ultrasound and she tells her she doesn’t want to have her child because she doesn’t want to be a single mother. Malena learns that Alfonsina is leaving with Hugo to Mexico City. Alejandro commits something crazy in his desperation to recuperate Alfinsina, he kidnaps her.

Wednesday – Hugo reports Alejandro to the police for kidnapping Alfonsina. She in the meantime gets after Alejandro for what he has done. Alejandro tells her to recognize and admit that she loves him and tells her they are not returning to town. The police tell Hugo that they can’t file charges against Alejandro for kidnapping because Alfonsina is his wife. Melesio accepts that Malena accompany him to San Luis Potosi. Javier takes all of Eloisa’s thing from her house. Margarita is furious to learn that her son robbed Alfonsina. Barbara tells Justo that she’ll soon have the spring. Barbara learning at what Alejandro has done gets furious and starts feeling bad and is at risk of losing her child. Alfonsina is bothered to learn that Malena had something to do with what Alejandro did. The gynecologist tells Justo and Margarita that Barbara could lose her baby. Gertrudis and Pilar have a confrontation. Alfonsina tries to escape from Alejandro and in the process suffers a serious accident.

Thursday – Alejandro begs Alfonsinafor forgiveness for being the cause of her accident. Barbara tells Pilar thet she almost lost her baby. Altagracia tells Margarita to realize that she can’t separate Alejabdro from Alfonsina. Malena confesses to her grandfather that she’s sure that Justo did something to her mother. Alejandro tries to clean Alfonsina’s wound and then kisses her. Margarita, who has learned that Salvador will be leaving town in three weeks begs him not to leave. Gertrudis is also depresses about Salvador leaving town. Alejandro contemplates making a decision concerning Alfonsina and their situation. Maru asks Barbara if the child she’s expecting is Alejandro or Gilbeto’s and neither is aware that they are being overheard by none other than Justo.

Friday – Barbara denies having any type of relation with Gilberto. Alvaro reprimands Alejandro for putting Alfonsina’s life in danger and that Barbara almost lost her child. Margarita begs the bishop to leave Salvador in San Andres. Margarita fights with Justo over Salvador. Alfonsina begs Salvador not to leave abd later learns that her sister’s death certificate is missing and that there’s no proof of her death at the registry. Gertrudis tells Fermin that she’s in love with a man who is dead. Justo has a surprise for Salvador and asks the townspeople for help. Alejandro and Malena talk about Eloisa’s disappearance. Gertrudis recalls swearing to her sister that she won’t tell Alfonsina the truth.

Alejandro finds Malena crying. She tells him that she found Héctor in the cantina, he shouted at her.

Salvador tells Alfonsina he didn’t live in the pueblo when Rigoberto died, says it is in the past.

Alejandro returns home. Justo accuses him of abandoning his mother. Alejandro says she was well-cared for and he is worried about Hector even if Justo isn’t. Alejandro tells him he wants nothing that is his.

Justo talks with Barbara, who is in a negligee. Barbara flirts with him, says she is sure he had his reasons for not recognizing Héctor, asks what this means for the future. He tells her it changes nothing. She leaves the room. He is obviously still thinking about her.

Out on the land, Melesio and Alejandro find Héctor’s jacket. Alejandro searches, finds Héctor’s body in El Manantial.

Alvaro gets after Pilar for covering for Barbara. Justo is saddened to learn that Alejandro is leaving town. Justo harrasses Alfonsina and Malena convinces her to confess to Alejandro what Justo did to her years earlier. Alejandro asks Alfonsina for forgiveness for not being able to protect her and promises that he will kill his father for what he did to her. She is horrified to learn that he raped the young girl and then he blames her for telling him to do whatever it took to get Alfonsina out of town. She angrily tells him not to blame her and now understands why Alejandro acted the way he did. Justo explodes against Alvaro and confesses to him that he and Barbara had a fling. Alvaro lunges toward him to kill him and admits to him that he cut off him arm on purpose. Alfonsina gets angry at Malena for forcing her to tell her secret to Alejandro. Barbara asks Hector for help in obtaining money. Barbara decides to kill Alfonsina but hits Alvaro instead. Alvaro dies after he pushes Alfonsina out of the path of Barbara's car. Barbara going crazy blames Alfonsina for her father's death. Everyone learns about Alvaro's death and Pilar is surprised to learn from Hugo about Alvaro's last wishes. Hugo tells Alfonsina that the meeting for the signing of the divorce is imminent. Alejandro is saddened to learn that his marriage is over and signs the divorce papers. The judge and Alejandro wait for Alfonsina as she is about to sign the divorce papers that signals the end of her marriage.

USA, 12/12/03 - Barbara sees Alfonsina walking alone, tries to run her down. Alvaro sees the car coming, pushes Alfonsina out of the way, is hit by the car. Alfonsina goes over to him. Bárbara screams, pushes Alfonsina away. Alfonsina goes to her house, calls an ambulance, wonders where Héctor is. The ambulance comes. Bárbara blames Alfonsina. Héctor arrives just as it is driving off. Alfonsina tells him what happened.

Melesio tells Margarita that the animals have been moved, due to a legal order from Dr. Luna. She hadn’t known but isn’t surprised. Margarita asks him if he knows where Rigoberto died. He says he does. She says that she would like to go there.

Malena finds Alejandro, talks with him. He asks her why she didn’t tell him. Malena says that she learned the truth only a short time before.

Alfonsina calls Alejandro. Justo answers, tells her that what happened years before is minor compared to what will happen next. Margarita hears him, tells him not to touch her. He ignores her.

Alfonsina tells Alejandro what happened, tells him that because Bárbara wanted to kill her, her father may be dying. Alejandro refuses to leave her alone until Héctor returns. She tells him that his obligation is to be with his uncle. He reminds her what happened in this house. She says she will be fine. She asks him if it is true that he is leaving the pueblo. He says ‘yes” and calls the hospital. Justo goes to Alfonsina’s house, sees Alejandro’s car.

Fermin’s wife tries to help him get over his grief for Gertrudis. She tells him that she, with all her faults, is here for him. He tells her that he has decided to get a divorce. He says that he will give her custody of Rigoberto. She begs him not to do this. He tells her that their relationship is over. She tells him it is hard to fight a dead woman. He tells her it is hard to love a woman who lives only in his memories.

In the hospital, the doctor tells the family that Alvaro suffered a severe fracture of the spine, will probably die. The doctor says an operation is impossible. Only a miracle will save him. Barbara becomes hysterical. Hector goes in to see Alvaro, cries, asks him to forgive him.

Alejandor makes Alfonsina tell the police what happened. Héctor finds them back in her house, tells them that Alvaro’s condition is bad. Alejandro leaves to tell his mother. She tells him to be careful. He leaves. Héctor goes outside.

In his house, Alejandro passes his father on the stairs, just stares. Margarita tells Justo that Bárbara tried to kill Alfonsina, ended up almost killing Alvaro. Justo seems pleased. Margarita seems surprised by his attitude. When Justo leaves her room, he takes out a cigar and grins.

Fermin leaves.

The next day, Alfonsina tells Héctor she still feels guilty. If she hadn’t come back, Alvaro would be ok, Alejandro and Bárbara would be married and happy. She insists that they go to the hospital.

At the hospital, the doctor permits Justo to go into Alvaro’s room and, of course, leav4es him alone. Justo smothers him to death.

Justo kills Alvaro. Everyone learns about Alvaro's death and Pilar is surprised to learn about Alvaro's last wishes. Malena learns that a pregnant woman was found in the trunk and she tells the police that she fears that it's her mother and blames Justo. Hugo tells Alfonsina that the signing of the divorce is imminent. Alejandro is saddened to learn that his marriage is over and signs the divorce papers. The judge and Alejandro wait for Alfonsina as she is about to sign the divorce papers to end her marriage. Alejandro waits for Alfonsina to sign the papers but she changes her mind at the last second. Alejandro can't believe what Alfonsina has done and explains to him that she couldn't go through with it. Relieved and happy they hug and kiss each other. The judge gets after them and they thank him for all he did for them. Alfonsina and Alejandro decide that together they can win. Alejandro leaves Alfonsina at home and tells her brother that he was right and that she didn't get a divorce and he's happy for her. Justo learns that the police are looking for him for Eloisa's death and also learns that Alvaro left the spring to Alfonsina and Hector and he hides out at Eloisa's house. Hugo learns that Alfonsina didn't divorce Alejandro and tells her that Alvaro left the spring to her and Hector. Alfonsina calls Salvador and tells him that she wants him to marry her and Alejandro. Barbara becoming more parnamoid and tortured by Alvaro's death doesn't want to have her child. Joel and Norma want to raise their grandchild. Alfonsina tells Alejandro that together they can face anything. While Alejandro looks for his father Hector stays with Alfonsina. Justo turns off the electricity at their house and when Hector goes outside to check what's wrong Justo knocks him out and kidnaps Alfonsina. Hector awakens and sees Justo throw Alfonsina in the trunk of a stolen car. Alejandro learns that Justo kidnapped his wife. Margarita learns that Justo has kidnapped Alfonsina and remembers what she was told, 'A killer always returns to the scene of the crime' and realizes where Justo is. Everyone including Salvador who has returned to town is looking for Alfonsina while Justo spews his evil upon the young girl. He is about to rape her when Margarita appears with a rifle and tells him to leave Alfonsina alone and that she's going to kill him before her son does. Justo thinks that Margarita is trying to scare him but shoots him twice and leaves him to die with the rifle by his side. Altagracia worries about Margarita. Hector recognizes the car that Justo was using at the old shack. Alfonsina runs out and runs into Alejandro and tells him that Margarita shot Justo. Margarita tells Altagracia and Malena that she killed Justo to save Alfonsina. Justo dies in Alejandro's arms. Hector asks Alfonsina for forgiveness for not being able to protect her. Margarita tries to commit suicide. The police learn that Margarita killed Justo to save Alfonsina. Alejandro finds Alfonsina's necklace in pieces. Salvador informs Alfonsina and Hector that Justo died. Alejandro cries with Altagracia and then worries about Margarita and tries to comfort her. Melesio, Alejandro and Hector are the only ones present at Justo's funeral. Hugo says goodbye to Alfonsina and gives her a copy of Alvaro's testament where it shows that the spring belongs to her and Hector. Margarita tells Alejandro she's leaving town so he can be happy and live his life with Alfonsina. Hector and Malena become a couple. Pilar tells Barbara about Justo's death and she becomes crazier. Alejandro and Alfonsina seal their love with their necklaces in the spring and she promises they will always be together. Months later, Barbara gives birth to a baby boy and Pilar gives him to Norma and Joel to raise him. Alfonsina gets her orchards ready with everyone's help. She asks Alejandro about Margarita and he tells her that he doubts that she will attend their wedding. Salvador visits Margarita and tells her to reconsider attending the wedding. She tells him she isn't ready and decides to stay at the convent. Hector and Alejandro along with Melesio work the fields. Alfonsina throws three flowers in the spring and asks her father, mother and aunt for their blessings. Alfonsina is sad because her loved ones aren't with her and worries how she's going to be able to be with Alejandro on their wedding night and Malena tells her not to worry. Alejandro thinks about Justo and Altagracia tells him to think about the happy times with his father. Barbara goes crazy with the sounds of the church bells as she and Pilar leave town. Hector walks Alfonsina down the aisle. Salvador asks if anyone wants to read the first reading when to everyone's surprise Margarita says she does, hugs her son and gives Alfonsina a kiss on the cheek. The wedding continues and Salvador declares them husband and wife. The whole town congratulates them. Alejandro surprises his new bride and both declare their love for each other as they become one.

USA, 12/18/03 - Margarita walks into the shack (where Justo and Francisca were found by Rigoberto years before) just as Justo is about to rape Alfonsina. She has a rifle, tells him she is going to kill him before her son arrives. She shoots when Justo goes for his gun. He asks her to finish him off and she cocks her rifle. Alfonsina shouts "no". Margarita drops the rifle and walks out. Alfonsina hears Alejandro calling for her, goes out to him. He unties her hands, holds her. Salvador joins them. Héctor takes Alfonsina around while Alejandro goes in, holds his father in his arms. Alejandro asks him "why". Justo says that his life was a porqueria, it couldn't end any other way. Salvador enters, tells him there is time to repent. Justo dies and Alejandro screams.

Margarita returns home, tells Altagracia she couldn't let Alejandro kill him, had to save her son, had to shoot. She tells Altagracia and Malena that Alfonsina is ok. Margarita goes to her room, looks in the mirror. Then she goes to the bathroom, gets into the tub, holds razor blades in her hand.

Alfonsina and Héctor comfort each other.

The policeman comes. Alejandro asks Salvador "why this place", learns it is where Francisco and Justo met, where Rigoberto was killed. Alejandro goes back in and searches. He finds a chain with a medal.

Salvador goes to Alfonsina's house, tells her and Héctor that Justo is dead. Salvador comforts Alfonsina.

Alejandro goes home. Altagracia greets him, hugs him. He goes up to his mother's room, hears the bath running, sees something that makes him burst in. She is still sitting in the tub, in a robe, holding the razor and the blades. She tells him she can't.

Justo is buried. Melesio, Alejandro and Héctor are the only ones there.

In her house, Alfonsina looks at a cameo on a chain. Hugo arrives. Alfonsina tells him that she is fine, the nightmare is over. Hugo tells her that Alejandro should be proud of her. He says he came to say good-bye, gives her Alvaro's will, tells her that El Manantial is hers and Héctor's. They say good-bye.

Alejandro talks with his mother. She tells him that she knows she has done him much harm, will leave him in peace to live his life as he wants.

Héctor helps Malena open up the shop, talks about the previous night. He grabs her and kisses her. After a moment, she responds.

Pilar finds Bárbara in her room, packing, tells her that Justo is dead. She wants to leave at once. Pilar says they can't: they have to sell the house, get the insurance.

Alejandro finds Alfonsina, fully dressed, sitting in El Manantial. He, also fully dressed, joins her. They kiss each other. She asks him about his mother. He says "mas o menos". Then he shows her the chain and medallion he found. He puts it around her neck. She tells him she loves him and they kiss. He asks her to swear that she will never leave him. She swears. They kiss again.

MESES DESPUES. Bárbara gives birth. Pilar loves the baby. Bárbara has no interest in it. Pilar asks if she is sure about her decision? Bárbara says yes. Pilar says she won't insist. In the hospital, she gives the baby to Gilberto's parents. They are thrilled. Pilar cries.

At El Manantial, Alfonsina, Héctor, Malena work on the land, planting an orchard. Alejandro and other men join them. Alejandro and Alfonsina greet each other with several kisses. Malena and Héctor tell them to get to work. Alfonsina asks Alejandro is he's heard from his mother. He says no.

Salvador visits Margarita at a convent. She tells him that she feels at peace, asks him why he came. he tells her that Alejandro is getting married today. She says that she knows. Alfonsina cries as she dresses for the wedding. She tells Malena she is unhappy because neither her mother nor father will be present and because she is afraid she won't be able to be a wife. Malena tells her that she is being foolish.

Altagracia finds Alejandro in Justo's study, sitting in his chair, holding one of his cigars. Alejandro wonders when his father turned into a sponsor. Altagracia tells him to remember the good things, reminds Alejandro that he, too, has made his mistakes.

Bárbara almost goes nuts when she hears the church bells. Pilar and she leave the house.

The Church: Alfonsina walks down the aisle on Héctor's arm. Salvador conducts the wedding ceremony. Margarita arrives, walks down the aisle, hugs Alejandro, kisses Alfonsina on the cheek. She reads from the pulpit definitions of love. The ceremony proceeds. In the church we see Altagracia and Melesio, Gilberto's parents with their grandson, etc. Alfonsina and Alejandro kiss.

The couple leaves the church. Alfonsina embraces Margarita who hugs her, blesses her. Alfonsina throws the bouquet. Malena catches it.

Alejandro carries Alfonsina over the threshold of their room. The bed is covered with roses in the form of a heart. He pours champagne. She hopes that the happiness she feels will last forever. He takes her in his arms and the dance as they sing the title song - not very well. They kiss. He asks if she is sure that she wants to be with him. She says she is completely sure. They kiss. The camera focuses on the heart on the bed. FIN.

The next morning, she joins him on the balcony. Both are in their robes. They kiss.
