     El Zorro en peligro (Zorro in danger) (oooh, i'm scared again. NOT. "Danger" is supposed to be Zorro's first name. get over it, LAI!! and while you're at it, could you start giving us avances for an episode we HAVEN'T seen yet, please?)

     TITLE: Olmos negocia con Pizarro. (B.OB. negotiates with Pizza.) (from what i recall of Friday's episode, the correct way of putting this should be "B.OB. ATTEMPTS to negotiate with Pizza." because Pizza sure wasn't showing too many signs of interest and rather more signs of distrust and even "heads will roll"...)

     -Olmos quiere tener en sus manos a Esmeralda y ahora tiene una manera de lograrlo.

     B.OB. wants to have Esme in his hands (i thought it was MUGRE he wanted to have... heh, never mind.) and now he has a way of accomplishing that. (well, sortof. but he should consider this: with the exception of the Esme "marriage settlement" in which he managed to help Esme keep the bulk of her fortune out of Tinhorn Despot's hands --and that wasn't even at Esme's request, but rather B.OB.'s own suggestion (and i still can't decide if he suggested it because he just loves putting one over on people so much he didn't care who was involved; he deliberately wanted to mess with Tinhorn for whatever reason, and Esme's dowry provided the perfect vehicle; or he was hoping to get Esme on his side --and i'm sure this latter point was likely a side benefit if not the main reason, and if it was the main reason i think he didn't really get what he'd hoped, because he made the mistake of believing that Esme was nearly as venal as he was when her attitude about her ex-husband's fortune falling into Tinhorn's hands was pretty much, 'fine, whatever, i don't care, so long as i can protect Diego.' as for having a way to accomplish it, well, maybe, if it weren't Pizza he had to go through to get to Esme. but he does have to go through Pizza. and i suspect that B.OB. is inclined to underestimate Pizza, which, as we've seen, can be a very costly mistake.)

     -Mariángel quiere atormentar a Esmeralda.

     Mugre wants to torment Esme. (so what? she always wants to torment Esme. this is not news, LAI! i do find it a bit surprising that Tinhorn hasn't made an effort to move Esme again. he ought to know Mugre well enough to know by now that Mugre will likely not be able to resist going back again and again. which will only draw attention to the site. then again, Tinhorn's not really thinking at all straight these days anyway (not that he ever really did, but his limited capacity for doing so is too distracted right now to work at all well...), so maybe he figures there's no point.)

     -Montero a punto de descubrir la identidad del Zorro.

     Tinhorn on the verge of discovering the identity of Zorro. (um, LAI...? that's not even a whole sentence, that's a headline. you need another verb in there, like "está," for example, in order to make that a sentence. plus, it's TOTALLY. OLD. NEWS. AND Tinhorn didn't discover who Zorro really is, either, because Zorro had already "second-guessed" Tinhorn (more like: the costume designer for Zorro was reading ahead in the script. Tinhorn should have done that -- had he bothered to do so, he might have been able to Think Ahead and figure out some possibilities for countering any moves Zorro might make, like in a chess game, but nooooo.....). LAI: get a clue already!!)

     -El custodio Aguirre quiere decir todo lo que sabe.

     The guard Aguirre wants to tell everything he knows. (the question is: who does he want to tell it to now that García appears to be shutting him down?)

     DEAR DIARY FOR TODAY (posted as AVANCES, but anyone who saw last Monday's ep knows better)

     TEASER: La Marquesa está en peligro.

     Montero prepara su muerte.

     The MarquieMarq is in danger. (again. she seems pretty unconcerned, though.)

     Tinhorn Despot prepares her death. (and again, there, too. he's pretty single-minded. and singularly inept.)

     TITLE: Aguirre ejecutado por Montero. (Aguirre executed by Tinhorn.) (execpt Tinhorn didn't execute him -- he ordered his mercenaries to do it for him. because why have Pizza do your dirty work for you when you have mercenaries? and if he's had all these mercenaries all along --as Kooko is attempting to retcon, so stupid of him-- then why did he bother having Pizza do ANY of his dirty work in the first place except for maybe that one time, to "prove" his loyalty --and Tinhorn's supposed supremacy...? it just doesn't make sense that Tinhorn would hire mercenaries in the first place --he's a cheapo when it comes to spending his own money except on himself, plus he doesn't trust anyone he isn't 110% certain he can control. and i would think that mercenaries, while they do have the advantage of doing what you tell them because you're paying them, are all the less trustworthy for that very reason: anyone with more money can just come and pay them more. which is why their being around makes no sense. and i think the writers figured this out, hence the more-subtle-than-usual attempt at retconning. it's not working, of course, but whatever. it's been a long time since much of this whole Esme-Tinhorn-queen-Diego-Zorro-Mugre story made a whole lot of sense anyway. which also begs another question: why hasn't Telerisible stolen Kooko from Telemundo yet? his stories would seem to be right up their alley, plotwise...)

     MOSTLY APPLY TO: #79 (Mon, 4 Jun 2007), so see also the "recap," once it's posted...

     -Por ayudar a Esmeralda, Aguirre ha muerto. Pizarro pierde otro de sus hombres y su paciencia se agota.

     For helping Esme, Aguirre has died. (more specifically, he was murdered by Tinhorn's mercenaries.) Pizza loses another of his men and he is fed up. (something either i missed seeing or he managed to conceal behind his usual Poker face...)

     -Diego se llevó el dinero que Montero tenía escondido y ahora el Comandante ha jurado venganza.

     Diego took the money that Tinhorn had hidden away (in the seeekret room behind his desk that is another of Kooko's lame retcons, since, if Tinhorn had the room all along, why in the world would he have bothered hiding his stuff in the much less secure Seeekret Shack that he'd have to get guards to guard? if it was because it wouldn't be safe in the seeekret room, then why move everything back to the seeekret room once the shack was exposed? not to mention having "civilians" moving a bunch of stuff into the Hotel isn't WAAAAY obvious or anything... as for the money being "liberated," it wasn't Diego that did that, it was Zorro (he's the one in the black cape and mask, remember, LAI?). and to the best of my recollection, we didn't see either Zorro discovering the room, or Zorro taking stuff out of the room. not that i mind, but it just makes the whole thing that much more arbitrary, if you know what i mean. very sloppy, even for Kooko...)

     -Por su parte, la Marquesa ha prometido vengar la supuesta muerte de Esmeralda.

     For her part, the MarquieMarq has promised to avenge the supposed death of Esme. (she did? i mean, i know she HAS, in the past, but i thought her conversation with the various miscreants was more along the lines of 'you guys don't scare me and don't even try' and 'i know you've been up to all kinds of dirty tricks' than 'i'll get you for Esme!' plus, wasn't it Whiny Queen she specifically got on Ad Nauseum's case about, not Esme?)

     -Lo que ella no sabe, es que Montero tiene un plan para asesinarla.

     What she doesn't know is that Tinhorn has a plan to kill her. (no, but she seems smart enough to guess he might. or if she is feeling too smug, her Secretary certsinly is aware that something is quite likely up.)

     TITLE: El Zorro descubre el complot para matar a la Marquesa. (Zorro discovers the plot to kill the MarquieMarq.) (i wasn't watching closely last night, but Zorro's conVEEEniently appearing right at the scene of the would-be explosion just seems a little too, well, convenient for me even if we did have the rather feeble "foundation" of Rat Pecs telling his son that the MarquieMarq had left to go back to Mexico. on the other hand, at least there is SOME foundation for his appearance on the trail, unlike a few other things that have happened recently...)

     EP #81 - Thursday, 7 June 2007

     NOTE: these are so vaguely written, they almost apply as a "Dear Diary" for yesterday's ep, but as ì note that a couple of the lines are pretty much direct lifts from his cuate TPC's promo for today's ep, i think --THINK!-- LAI may have finally gotten back on schedule.

     -Una vida está en peligro.

     A life is in danger. (yes. the life of my remaing sane brain cell.)

     -Ahora más que nunca se pone en riesgo todo.

     Now more than ever all is put at risk. (indeed? can't you come up with ANYthing more original, LAI?)

     -Esmeralda se juega la última carta.

     Esme plays the final card. (THE final card? i guess no-one else has any more cards after this. damn, 'coz i like Solitaire...)

     -Y dos corazones lucharán contra el odio.

     And two hearts will fight against hate. (um, ok. whatever.)

 

Telenovela-World:     AVANCES for today (Fri 8 Jun 2007) Author: B. (---) Date:   06-08-07 17:22 PDT

     SORRY THESE ARE SO LATE -- i've just been jammed at work.

     RECAPS: i will get what there is of LAI's recaps for the last few shows up, probably over the weekend.

     AVANCES? FOR TODAY

     TEASER: Esmeralda escapó...

     Y se desata una cacería.

     Esme escaped...

     And a hunt is unleashed. (kinda mixed metaphors there, i know. it works better in Spanish. sortof. the basic gist is that Esme's escape provokes a full-on search for her. the thing is, how is Tinhorn Despot going to explain a search for someone who's supposed to be dead? "you're looking for my wife's heretofore unknown identical twin sister"?? or, since they're his soldiers (or his mercenaries?) who are doing the searchers, is he taking the attitude "i'm your commander, don't ask questions if you know what's good for you" / "i'm paying you to do what i tell you, not to ask questions." but you'd think he'd realize that with that kind of thing happening, word inevitably gets out. although, Tinhorn does tend to have kindof a single-minded, blinders-on mentality when it comes to Esme. and to Zorro. which isn't really too good for him. i just hope that Diegorro finds out Tinhorn's tearing the place apart looking for Esme. hah!! that would serve him right.)

     TITLE: Esmeralda escapa de Montero. (Esme escapes from Tinhorn.) (and how many times can you restate this in the same too-short avance, LAI...?)

     EP #82 - Friday, 8 June 2007

     -Al fugarse Esmeralda, una cacería se desata.

     With Esme's escape, a hunt is unleashed. (see comments for the Teaser. all LAI did was restate himself. making this only margially less useless than was yesterday's "avances.")

     -Su vida corre peligro, ahora más que nunca.

     Her life is in danger, now more than ever. (i wouldn't have said that. it seems to me her life was in much greater danger when she was a prisoner, because sure, Tinhorn knew she was worth more to him alive than dead. but he tended to forget that a LOT. and his current course of action with her --starving her into telling him what he wants to know-- could hardly be called "safe," for her, let alone "beneficial.")

     -Las amenazas crecen.

     The threats grow. (oh, puh-leeze. that's all anyone does on this show: threaten people. no wonder no-one pays attention to anyone when they threaten them, since the threats so often turn out to be hollow. the wonder is that the people most inclined to threaten people haven't figured this out yet... then again, Ad Nauseum hasn't figured out how very often he's defeated in single combat, so...)

     -Y una corazonada...¿Se volverá realidad?

     And a hunch... Will it become reality? (geez, LAI, try to be a bit more vague, would you?!?)

 

 

SUMMARIES OF EPISODES FOR WEEK OF JUNE 4-8, 2007

 

Telenovela-World:   only because you're nice and we like you, Jen...  [ISA, 6/4/07]  Author: B. (---) Date:   06-05-07 00:28 PDT

     only for that would i sully my eyes and ears with a rewatching of the horribly nauseating MPeep --gag-- scene...

     (summary of first segment of #79 and a little bit of the start of the second segment.)

     but first we join our supposed hero (that would be Diego) at the cemetery with Mugre pretending to be upset that Blabmu's passed out AGAIN. Diego shouts for Isidoro to bring the carriage around while Mugre overacts some more.

     then the first --and probably the worst-- of several scenes that were hard on my gag reflex (thank heavens i was finished eating dinner...!): rejoining Rat Pecs with his invisible cape snapping angrily in the wind as he holds his sword to Ad Nauseum's throat, while María Poo sobs that Rat Pecs can't kill Ad Nauseum because she loves him even if he did kill Regina and do a whole lot of other horrible things. Rat Pecs looks like he's seriously considering running María Poo through as well as Ad Nauseum, but alas, he doesn't do it even though i told him i'd say nice things (well, not mean things) for a week if he would just do it and put me out of my misery. (another reason to despise Rat Pecs, the hypocrite!) María Poo sobs that she's in a bottomless pit or lost in a maze or some such imagry, and that she doesn't deserve her family's affection or even the habit she's wearing. Ad Nauseum is starting to recover from the shock of being defeated (you'd think he'd be used to it by now, but i guess not...) and since María Poo is repeating herself over and over again, he starts to register that it's not just wishful thinking on his part. she runs away sobbing, leaving the two men alone together. Rat Pecs snarls that for the love he (claims to) have for his sister, he's not going to kill Ad Nauseum right now after all, but he warns Ad Nauseum to stay away from María Poo in future because if Ad Nauseum goes anywhere near María Poo ever again, he'll kill Ad Nauseum. (and Rat Pecs thinks Ad Nauseum is going to let a little threat like that stop him now that María Poo has admitted to everyone --well, to Rat Pecs and Ad Nauseum and maybe a few miscellaneous ranch hands-- that she loves him more than ANYTHING. ELSE. IN. THE. WORLD. in spite of everything she knows he's done and is?? yeah, Rat Pecs is delusional as well as hypocritical.)

     García is eating his lunch at the tavern while Aguirre is telling him his Big Secret. García can't believe Esme's alive -- all he can think about is the heartbreak everyone is suffering because they all think she's dead. Aguirre doesn't tell García everything --mostly about how dangerous this secret is and a bare-bones outline of how desperate Esme's situation is.

     Tinhorn's visiting his wife in her new hiding place at the Seeekret Shack. he tells her she can't complain about her situation since he let her sister visit. Esme isn't amused. she wants to know why he let Mugre know that she's alive. Tinhorn doesn't answer except to say that Esme isn't any good to them anymore, and that's why she's there in the hut. (um, ok.) Esme tells him God will get him for this one day. Tinhorn storms over to threaten her and notices the food that Esme hasn't really hidden. he realizes Aguirre has got to be her source and even though Esme says it wasn't Aguirre, he tells her Aguirre will pay with his life for disobeying his, Tinhorn's, orders (to let let Esme starve).

     García's still going on about Esme and how Blabmu and Diego and everyone is suffering thinking Esme's dead when she's not. he's not being very discrete. Aguirre shushes him and reminds him again how VERY dangerous this secret is. Aguirre doesn't buy that Don Diego is suffering given that he married Mugre, and García tells him not to talk about things he knows nothing about. Aguirre says he doesn't want to talk about the nobles anyway, and swears García to secrecy again. then he tells him he's got some money stashed away (G: "Some money?" A: "Yes, and don't ask me where it came from!" G: "And where did it come from?" A (exasperated): García, please!!" -- hee!) and gets García to promise that if anything happens to him --if García should learn that he is dead, or even just that he's disappeared-- García will get the secret hoard, give it to Aguirre's wife, and make sure she and his kids get safely out of Faux Ángeles.

     Diego and "sad" Mugre take Blabmu to Dr Death. Blabmu's still passed out and she's very cold and pale. Dr Death checks her and says it's a good thing they brought her right to him because she's very near death -- "she's hanging on to life by a thread." with Diego's help, and talking non-stop, Dr Death gives Blabmu some medicine. Mugre takes the opportunity of Diego being too focused on Blabmu to push her away to fake-tenderly put one hand on Diego in support, and the other on Blabmu, who sits up, choking on the medicine but conscious. Dr Death pulls Diego off to one side and basically says, in so many words, that Blabmu is so depressed that she's lost the will to live, and the only way she really can pull through is if she wants to live. Mugre is still over next to Blabmu and pretending to be concerned about her, but she's watching Dr Death and Diego, who totally don't notice Mugre's acting since they have their backs to the women as they talk. it's not clear if Mugre overheard what Dr Death is saying or not.

     Esme, alone in the hut, has a bunch of filler flashbacks to happier times, mostly with Diego and/or Zorro, but some of Blabmu and her mother Whiny Queen. "Diego. I only ask God that I see you again. My Diego."

     Blabmu, Diego, and Mugre are in the carriage going back to Chez Infidelity. Mugre, sitting facing Diego and Blabmu, has typical snide Mugre thoughts about how touching it is, Diego taking care of his step-mother while he's grieving for stupid Esme. and how hopefully Tinhorn will soon elimiate Esme and her bastard for good, at which time she will take care of "consoling" Diego until he forgets all about Esme.

     <opening credits --which i note have been tweaked yet again, so now i guess i will have to try to tape them so i can fix the credits post-- and the first commercial break.>

     Ad Nauseum is back home. he's pacing around a room (his office?), talking to himself, pleased and relieved that María Poo finally confessed she still loves him. he wonders what she's going to do with her life now that she's gotten that admission out in the open -- she can't be with God now that she's confessed the truth. and she will never be able to run away from him (away from Ad Nauseum). (note, this is not a break-out-the-champagne-in-Victory! followed by a fist-smashing-oath-swearing thing. it's just a quiet thing that is all the more effective for being underplayed and not OTT. nicely handled by Peniche -- very nicely done. but i'm still not rooting for Ad Nauseum to get María Poo even if i am sick to death of the pair of them.)

     María Poo, her wimple thingy still off (she pulled it off during all her sobbing back in the desert), apologizes to Rat Pecs again (one gets the feeling, from the look on the face of the Miscellaneous Ranch Hand Militia Member who is also in the shot, that she's been apologizing and excusing herself non-stop all the way back from the desert). Rat Pecs tells her she doesn't have anything for which to apologize -- the only thing her love for Ad Nauseum has brought her is pain. and anyway, Ad Nauseum is never going to bother her again -- he, Rat Pecs, has already warned Ad Nauseum to never get near María Poo again.... María Poo says she doesn't care, she's tired and has spent the best years of her life trying to run away from Ad Nauseum. Rat Pecs wants to know what she's going to do with her life now and she says she doesn't know, but she is going to return to Chez Infidelity after she wraps up a few things at the convent.

     García's done with his meal and is going to leave the tavern. Aguirre reminds him of his promises. García assures him he won't forget and, with a worried look, tells Aguirre to take care.

     Esme is alone in her room again. she replays the scene where she tried to tell Tinhorn Aguirre wasn't feeding her as he stormed out after finding the food, then, frustrated, screams to no-one that Tinhorn is a coward. she swears he will pay, and pay dearly.

     Aguirre, headed back to the Seeekret Shack, is stopped by three of Tinhorn's mercenaries in some clearing. seeing their casually threatening attitude, he whips out his sword and assumes a defensive stance.

     Dololes bawls out Blabmu and Diego for taking so long to come back from the cemetery -- she was worried!! Diego explains how they had to stop off at Dr Death's. Dololes scolds Blabmu, pointing out that if Blabmu insists on not eating, she won't be allowed out of the house. as Mugre tries to keep the smirk off her face, Dololes leads Blabmu off to lie down in her room. after they're gone, Mugre --still in her faux-concerned mode-- snarks about the shock Blabmu just gave them all. Diego agrees and says he thinks he needs a drink -- does she want to come with him? pleased, Mugre accepts.

Telenovela-World:   DieGrEsme [USA, 6/8/07]  Author: Jen Asha (---)  Date:   06-09-07 08:35 PDT

     Esme spends the bulk of the episode, from night to the morning, fleeing from Montero and his mercenaries (and Garcia). At times she remembers being with Diego. Desperate for water, she comes upon a lake, but it's just a mirage. She finally finds a real river/creek, drinks up, finds some oranges, and chows down.

     Diego comes home from the cantina with Tia Pia and runs straight into Mugre. Mugre is not pleased to learn that MP has left the convent. "It must be so hard for the sisters to be abandoned by their mother superior." Diego smacks her down for talking to his tired aunt that way. MP goes to bed.

     Mugre wants to apologize for her behavior when she yelled him out of her room before. Diego's not really interested in talking to her. She starts to cry about something, and he tells her to stop. The only time her tears were ever real were yesterday, when she yelled at him, and he still doesn't know what that was about. He tells her that she play the victim well. He also asks her if she's familiar with how the scorpion operates...it lies completely still in wait for its prey, then...wham!

     Don't know when this happened: Diego tells MP that he has asked Mugre to separate, and he will provide for her completely. Y'know those pregnant women, MP says. You can't go asking her something like that when she's in her condition. Diego tells her that there are things about Mugre that warrant his wanting to stay away. MP counsels Diego that, though he may not be happy in his marriage to Mugre, she's the mother of his child. The least his child deserves is to be brought up in a harmonious household. Diego seems to accept this.

     The whole de la Vega family assembles for breakfast - even Almudowner, accompanied by Yumalai. Alehoundro is happy to have everyone gathered, and proposes they spend the day in the countryside. Everyone is looking forward to it - but wait, Diego has something to attend to in town [at which point, MP should've said - hell, no, buddy, I know exactly what you're going to do]. Mugre has to mail a letter - she'll go with him. Not so much, says Diego. How 'bout you just give it to me to mail. Mugre makes a sourface [in Gypsy, the word sourface translates to "laisha"] - she wants to mail her letter, and also see her father. Drat! She'll go with Diego. The de la Vega country day is nixed.

     After breakfast, Diego runs into Yumalai/Guadalupe, who is carrying a sweet smelling concoction that Bufala Blanca recommended for Almudena's illness. Diego remembers it, and a lot of the other treatments, since he grew up in the tribe. He comments on Yuma's resemblance to his mother, and she tells him that she's his mother's younger sister...and Diego puts two and two together that now Alehoundro's wife. Yuma looks embarrassed. Diego tells her not to worry, after all, his father already has a Spanish wife. Mugre is eavesdropping on this conversation, and chooses this moment to enter. She feigns interest in Yuma's potion, but suggests to Diego that they leave.

     In the carriage on the way to town, Diegre start arguing. I can't remember what starts it. I think she says she wants to talk to him about his proposal to separate. Some words to the effect of taking what you want are exchanged, and Mugre picks that moment to force Diego into a kiss.

     Esmeralda, hidden on the side of the road, heard the carriage approach, and got excited to see Bernardo driving it. She moves forward out of the brush - just in time to see Diegre in this kiss. She is stunned and speechless and watches the carriage roll by.

     Well, actually, I only want to fill in one blank :p that Diegre fight at the end, but before that, some comments

     On the scorpion scene, Diego told Mugre that "the role of victim didnt suit her"

     And I was also confused with that Diego-Yummy dialogue, It did feel like he was warning her, but I just dont get why he would choose that moment, to talk about that, when there are a number of things he should be curious about (his mother, the survivors of his tribe) Then again, Yumalay isnt terribly curious about him either. I dont know if he was being patronizing or just trying to be nice or maybe he thought Yumalay felt an obligation and he was trying to let her know she isnt obligated, who knows? I never get Diego anyway. Those De la Vegas are weird! They are all on prozca. Its like they are insensitive to other people's suffering sometimes

     Alehoundro didnt realize Diego was looking like a zombie at the breakfast table and wanted to go on a picnic to celebrate their happiness (wtf?)

     MP smiling, and telling Diego "You look sad" and Im like HELLO?!!,what do you expect!??

     Ok, now the last Diegre dialogue

     Mugre tells Diego that she wants to have a serious conversation with him

     Diego's dry response, without looking at her "Our conversations are always serious"

     She tells him she wants to talk about his proposal

     Diego is interested, he looks at her "I'm all ears"

     She starts whining, "No man, in all my life, has ever treated me the way you do. You are rude to me, you never touch me and you always look at me with disdain" (I love the fact, that it seems to truly bother her)

     Diego looking at her with the disdain she is talking about: "Nothing is free in this life"

     Mugre getting angry: Fine! So you think I deserve it. Well, here is my answer to your damn proposal. She gets closer and looks like she wants to hit him but he, who also got angrier, grabs her hand and warns he: Be careful with what you do because you are trying my patience!

     Mugre yells, "Well, mine too!" and force kisses him, but heyyyyy he didnt make a big effort to resist, I just saw it again, and he moved his hands toward her, maybe to stop her, maybe to embrace her, but then pulls back his hand as if he was enjoying the moment SOB!!!!! and Im sorry to say this again THAT KISS WAS HOT! uffa, ok, lemme calm down

(and so do we all. it seems increasingly clear Kooko didn't have a Master Plan when he started this story... or if he did, it didn't last beyond the first week. or maybe he confused the Meister Plan for the whole novela for the outline for the first week, and now he not only doesn't know what to do, but he's run out of kitchen sinks to throw into the story. or maybe the rumored decision to cut the story back to the original "120" episodes after all has confused him because he had planned this whole tedious buildup to something that wasn't meant to happen until Ep 137 and now he just doesn't want to waste what's already been shot in the hopes that Telemundo will change their minds back to making this "160" episodes...?)

     EP #83 - Monday, 11 June 2007

     -Esmeralda no puede creer lo que vio.

     Esme can't believe what she saw. (i can't believe she can't believe it. no, i take that back: in Kooko's hands, of COURSE i can believe she can't believe it. but anyone else who knows what Esme knows, and especially who knows what Esme knows about Mugre, would not be the least bit surprised. and i have to say, ITA with whoever it was --i think it was Jen Asha?-- who said she is no longer satisfied with whatever we are supposed to infer was Esme's reason for not calling out when she saw Diego being assaulted by Mugre in the carriage because Esme knows that Mugre is Tinhorn Despot's lover, so at the very least she should have tried to warn Diego, even if she's certain he no longer loves her. plus, the more people who know for certain that she's not dead, the harder it will be for Tinhorn to keep trying to hide her. basically, Esme standing there silent like an idiot was just stupid, unreasonable, and unrealistic even for Kooko trying to retcon all those kitchen sinks. Kooko: the good writers make the story fit the natural actions of the characters, not make the characters act arbitrarily to fit your plot.)

     -Por su parte, Montero aplastará las esperanzas.

     For his part, Tinhorn will squash the hopes. (well, Esme's hopes, at least, if the promo is anything by which to judge. as for other hopes, like, say, ours that this whole stupid plot might finally be taking a turn for the interesting, Kooko squashed them, flatter than a steamroller. more Esme in the dungeon. he likes it. we're all bored to pieces. and it's not like anything interesting happens. all she does is say the same thing to Tinhorn, who says the same things back, and daydream the same flashbacks we've seen a gazillion times. producers: if Kooko doesn't have enough story even for "120" episodes in him, cut this shorter and run longer episodes of something else. or (though i don't want it) temporarily bring back Sexiciones as a placeholder. but don't keep padding an already-stupefying lead story with endless flashbacks. not that flashbacks don't have their place. and not that i probably wouldn't be having a gazillion flashbacks if i were in Esme's place. but there's a limit, and the limit is when you have to use them because there is NO. DEVELOPMENT. IN. THE. PLOT. OTHERWISE...)

     -Y las tragedias nunca vienen solas.

     And tragedies never come alone. (great, MORE tragedy. what now? is Blabmu going to kick it? and is Blabmu's death going to be yet another thing Tinhorn can use to torment Esme AND later something else that Esme can blame Diego for while simultaneously "legitimizing" the miserable, inexcusable, and too-revolting Rat Pecs / Yummy "love story"?? um, should i shut up lest i give Kooko worse ideas than he already has...?)

     -Después de ver a Diego con Mariángel, Esmeralda es atrapada por Montero.

     After seeing Diego with Mugre, Esme is trapped by Tinhorn Despot. (and was i hallucinating, or did Esme actually TELL Tinhorn she'd seen Mugre and Diego kissing?? i mean, without being asked?? why would she EVER do that?? surely she can't have thought it would bother Tinhorn -- although maybe she hoped it would...)

     -La astróloga Selegnia se encuentra con Mariángel y la invita a una sesión espiritista con la excusa de comunicarla con el fallecido Santiago. En realidad, es una trampa para cumplir lo adeudado a Olmos.

     The astrologer Steeviee ("Selegnia"?? "astrologer"??? LAI is hallucinating worse than me!) meets Mugre and invites her to a spiritualist session (LAI's phrase) on the excuse of communicating with the deceased Santiago. In reality, it's a trap to fulfill her commitment to B.OB. (um, ok, LAI, if you say so.)

     -Un Diego herido y tomado, se enfrenta a puños a Fernando por haber asesinado a su madre. María Pía los detiene.

     A hurt, drunken Diego challenges Ad Nauseum to a fist fight for having murdered his mother. (gee, be a little more incoherent, whydon'tcha, LAI?? Diego gets drunk before he goes to challenge Ad Nauseum because he is determined to fight him no matter what, and Yoda Tomás pointed out that under no circumstances can Diego fight with Ad Nauseum using swords or, because Diego is so furious about Ad Nauseum killing his mother, he would not be able to control himself. in other words, if Diego were to challenge Ad Nauseum to a duel with swords or even pistols, he would be unable to stop himself using his true abilities and in so doing would give the game away. so Diego went out and got soused, both as an excuse for the challenge in the first place, and as a way to 'handicap' himself so he wouldn't give his Zorro abilities away.) María Poo, who appeared out of no-where, broke up the fight. (boooo, María Poo!! and i know someone else has pointed this out recently, but how come NO-ONE that i can think of has yet to throw Ad Nauseum's attempted excuses back in his face. "I swear, if i had KNOWN Regpurnia had gone back to the village... if i had KNOWN it was her, i would NEVER..." i thought, for a second, that Diego was going to come back with "...and you think it's all right to just go attacking OTHER villages full of only women and children and massacring THEM...? well, i beg to disagree!")

     -Montero vuelve a nombrar a Pizarro al frente de sus hombres y de la vigilancia de Esmeralda.

     Tinhorn once puts Pizza in charge of his men and guarding Esme. (good thing, too. now it will be at least a little easier for García to sneak food to her. and after Pizza had been put back in charge of guarding Esme, he told García, "I don't care what you have to do: keep her alive.")

     -García se encuentra con Diego y se prepara para decirle que Esmeralda está viva.

     García runs into Diego and prepares to tell him that Esme is alive. (ah, but will he actually do so? or will he get spooked by how obviously drunk Diego is? or will Diego himself run García off?)

     among the bits that LAI did not deign to mention:

     *more with Tobobo fighting with Gata Miau Miau. Gata MM tried to lie and say she hasn't been with Pizza, but Tobobo stopped her before she could keep insisting and tell her he SAW them together. she did defend herself by pointing out that even though they're married, Tobobo hasn't touched her EVER. this did give Tobobo the briefest of pauses, but then he went back to ranting about how she's a slut. he demanded she break it off. not too surprisingly, Pizza is not taking this at all well. he wants to go kill Tobobo, because, so far as he's concerned, Gata MM is HIS. WOMAN. hmmmm.

     *Diego TOTALLY snubs Mugre again. of course, it's too late for Esme to see or hear.

     *García is VERY distressed at how Tinhorn treats Esme after he recaptures her. i like him more all the time.

     *B.OB. has a daydream/daymare/flashback to when his mother told him how Stevie cursed him while she was pregnant with him. i wasn't particularly paying attention but it was some rigamarole about how some other woman hired Stevie to do this because she wanted B.OB.'s mother out of the way because she was in love with his father or something, though why cursing the baby would get the wife out of the way... but i digress. there was also something about how Stevie knows the secret of eternal youth and she's really 150 years old or something. mostly i remember thinking that B.OB. in the daymare looked too old (like a teenager) and was this possibly a disconnect with what B.OB. related earlier when he told his backstory to the barmaid at the tavern (that whole thing about the neighbor and the aunt who hated him and the chickens)...? whatever.

     i think there was also more with the Yummy/Blabmu/Rat Pecs revulsion but that story is just so WRONG i don't care. oh, yeah, one thing i do remember though: it looks like Yummy is taking off again, because she gave the wonder drug for saving Blabmu that Buffie gave to her to María Poo the Omnipresent and explained to her about the dosage. she added that it was VERY IMPORTANT that María Poo the Omnipresent be sure to get the dosage EXACTLY RIGHT, because too little and it wouldn't do anything, and too much would kill Blabmu. i didn't see: was Mugre or B.OB. perhaps overhearing? maybe B.OB., because i remember him getting all angry that someone would say slighting things about Mugre and one of the women definitely did agree that Mugre was probably not to be trusted with such a task because she really doesn't care much for Blabmu. or something. did i mention i wasn't totally attending for this part...?

     The heart doesn't accept a defeat. (except when the script, for no logical reason, calls for it. and then does an equally abritrary about-face. yeesh!)

     A trap is set to explode. (depending upon what you intend to catch with the trap, having them explode is GENERALLY considered counter-productive. you know, because a trap is usually meant to TRAP something (hence the name, "trap"). i'm just saying...)

     -Por su parte, Mariángel le tortura la vida a Esmeralda con comentarios sobre Diego.

     For her part, Mugre makes Esme's life hell with her commentaries about Diego. (and since B.OB. was so assiduous about following Mugre to her tryst with Tinhorn Despot, you'd think he'd be equally assiduous about following her to Esme, but i guess not... not that i'm all that certain we want B.OB. knowing how to find Esme on his own anyway.)

     -¿Será que Esmeralda tiene los días contados?

     Could it be that Esme's days are numbered? (well, yes, it could. but then again, so are García's, and Mugre's, and Tinhorn's, and Diego's, and Pizza's, and pretty much the days of everyone in the cast. because this IS going to end. as for the rest of your threat, LAI, i've said it before and i'm saying it again: she's the HEROINE. she's NOT going to die. get used to it.)

     -Esmeralda tendrá a su hijo.

     Esme will have her child. (hmmmm, i think i've heard this before. oh, yes! i have!! just a few lines above!! try for some originality, LAI!!)

     -Y Mariángel también.

     And Mugre too. (what. ever.)

     -Diego no se imagina que el futuro de su hijo está en peligro.

     Diego has no idea that the future of his child is in danger. (yup. he should have paid more attention to the credits. Kooko has a bit of a fondness for Endangered Baby plots...)

     -El destino tiene preparado un doloroso golpe.

     Destiny has a painful blow waiting. (it's already here. in fact, it's been here since Telemundo signed up Kooko to write this. ok, yes, they COULD have done worse. they COULD have signed up Yawn or --heaven forfend!!-- the über-hack who's "writing" --and i use that term only in the loosest possible sense-- Marinehell, but still. since they were investing so much money in this it's really too bad they dropped the ball so incredibly on one of the key elements to a really great novela: the writer. memo to Telemundo (and Telerisible should pay attention to this as well): really good writing can go a long way to making up for so-so talent, and vice-versa. but NEITHER writing nor talent ALONE is enough to carry the production on its own. you NEED to have good writing AND good talent if you want to have a really good novela. even just decent writing and decent talent can sometimes do it, if everyone is determined to do their best, which is why it's such a shame we don't even have that on the writing side for this novela. for the most part, you TOTALLY came through with the talent (a bit of a shame about La Favela, but overall she's worked out much better than i'd feared when i heard she'd been cast). but then you completely undermined the wonderful and talented cast you gathered for this "historical' novela when you hired to someone that you ought to know by now has NO hesitation whatsoever about making things up wholesale as he goes along without considering that viewers might actually want to see at least some resemblance to reality (not to mention his penchant for savaging characters at will). the gross liberties Kooko has taken with geography, history, and social morés alone are more than ample proof of this. (and what exactly were you thinking by syndicating this story to Spain??! yeesh!) we could have overlooked (well, more or less) some errors if Kooko had made an effort to be pretty much on the mark in other ways, but let's face it: what we have here is a modern story with modern characters wearing vaguely "historical" clothing. because in no other way is this a story set in the past: the characters do not behave the way their real-life counterparts would have behaved (particularly the women!), and things happen that would never have been possible in the real early 19th Century (like correspondence getting to Spain and back in a week or two. it would have been lucky to make it to Mexico City and back in two weeks!). bottom line: you guys at Telemundo totally screwed up --BIG time!!-- with the choice of writer. and then, to make matters worse, you stood back and let him run amok. he has completely wasted the very talented cast, insulted the intelligence of just about anyone who paid any attention at all in history, geography, or science class, and generally gone from bad to worse in the excess department, making a mockery of what could have been at least a decent novela, and SHOULD have been a really good one. i just wish it would be a lesson to you, but i bet it isn't.)

     -Montero celebra que ya llegó su momento.

     Tinhorn celebrates his moment having arrived. (what moment? i was out last night and only had time to FF quickly through the episode, so i don't know if this is because Queenie-pie is arriving or because the babies are being born or what. then again, i'm not really sure i care, either.)

     -El destino del hijo de Diego y Esmeralda quedo sellado.

     The destiny of Diego and Esme's son has bee sealed. (!! LAI! get a grip, man!)

     -Diego no se imagina que tendra en su brazos a su hijo verdadero.

     Diego has no idea he whill have his true son in his arms. (because if he did, he'd... what? drop it on its head? take it out riding? get a baby Zorro costume for him? plus, let's keep in mind that even though WE knew Mugre's baby was actually fathered by Tinhorn, Diego believed it was his, so... i didn't see last night's episode at all (have it on tape) and only FF'd through Wednesday's -- does Tinhorn know about the baby swap? or does he think Esme's baby died? because i just don't see him letting Diego actually have his real son with Esme, even if Diego believed it was his son with Mugre, and even if Mugre whined and whined and whined. plus, i would have thought it would be more in Mugre's interest to pretend to Tinhorn that their baby is alive.)

     -El corazon de Esmeralda quedara devastado por la infamia.

     Esme's heart will be devastated by infamy. (oh, LAI, it's Friday. don't you have something better to write...?)

     -Ahora ante el dolor..

     Now in face of the pain... (of watching a very talented cast be wasted on clichéd drivel that just gets worse all the time...?)

     Tinhorn could give the final blow. (or not. probably not, actually, since Esme's still supposedly the heroine. though Kooko seems to have forgotten that Diegorro is supposed to be the hero, so who knows...?)

 

 

SUMMARIES OF EPISODES FOR WEEK OF JUNE 11-15, 2007

 

Summary, for those who missed [USA, 6/11/07] Author: Jen Asha (---) Date:   06-12-07 22:36 PDT

     This is out of order...

     I missed the very beginning with Diego and Garcia as well! He said something about Esmeralda. Garcia told Diego that he was more than a friend, he was like a family member. He essentially asked Diego to remember in the future that, although Garcia did a bad thing, he had been trying to do the right thing.

     A convo with Padre Tomas and Bernardo. PT thinks Zorro should go underground for a little while. He's tipping his hand running so hotheaded after Montero lately. And something else I don't remember.

     Olmos-Selenia-Mugre

     Selenia commences the seance, and channels Santiago Michelena Whoopi-Goldberg-in-Ghost style, who speaks to Mariangel once. Olmos and Mugre are pretty shocked, Olmost, because this means that Santiago truly is dead. But the effect doesn't last for long. Selenia apologizes; Santiago left [her body] abruptly. Mugre is desperate to hear more from him, but Selenia says she can't do any more channeling tonight - it's too dangerous. Mugre can come back, and Stevie'll charge her fairly. After they leave - I forgot her assistant's name, but she tells him that she just used her red ring to hypnotize them into seeing what they wanted to see.

     Olmost talks with Pizarro toward the end of the episode. Olmost wants to move on liberating Esme and getting her to Spain, but Pizza says that's pretty impossible right now. What he wants is for Olmost to start getting prepared. When it's time to go, they're all going to have to haul a$$ to Spain, because Montero will be searching like a madman. Olmost puzzles over Montero's hate for Esmeralda running off with Diego on their church wedding day, and Pizza says Montero already got revenge on Don Diego. Olmost presses Pizza to tell him how, and Pizza finally divulges [in a way I doubt Pizza would really ever do] that Montero is sleeping with Mugre. Olmos is devastated, of course. We see him at the very end of the episode spying on Mugre as she walks to Tinhorn's flat. He prays that she won't go inside, but with one of those Scooby Doo, let-me-look-around-so-obviously-everyone-knows-I'm-up-to-something way, she does.

     Esme

     pinkmoon predicted we would have enough filler for a few minutes of DiEsme. I'll bet it was two, AT MOST (well, Diego got a bit o' time). Garcia brings a weak and grateful Esme some food. Later, she talks to the baby. Diego can't possibly know that she's alive - if he did, he'd show up with sword and whip to save them both, because he loves them. She prays to God that Diego doesn't fall into Mugre's trap.

     Diego and Alehoundro rehash the fight with Fernando. Alej confesses that he also found out recently. Diego is still mad that MP kept the secret. Alehoundro sounds like Fernando: [repeat it with me, folks] Fernando would never have touched RegiPurnia if he knew it was her. In any case, Alehoundro had his own chance to kill Peep, and didn't take it, because MP loves him. And besides, the DE LA VEGA NAME is not to be stained with blood. MP should be safe, though, in his opinion. She's a changed woman...

     MP-Fernando-Alfonso

     Alfonso is insistent in his attentions to MP after running into post-Diego/Fer fight. He really wants to talk to her, it's the second time their paths have crossed, and right after he saw her for the first time, he got into a fight because of her [she wasn't interested at all to hear about this, which was kind of weird]. He also knows her name, which takes her aback, but then he introduces himself - Don Alfonso ______ Vergara. He's traveling through L.A. Trying to not be rude, she makes several attempts to wish him good night and move on, but knowing she didn't feel well, he wanted to accompany her. [I missed this transition] They end up sharing a coffee at the local "Lana de Estrella" [Starbucks]. He's quite taken with her, caresses her hand, tells her that he's tired of traveling, and might consider settling down in L.A. He continues to surprise her with details about her life, and he gets the skinny from her about Peep - once they had a relationship.

     Peep comes home, all beat up. He stops Prudencio from going after Diego or the other de la Vegas. He had this one coming, and tells the wind that he'd endure it a thousand times, because MP, [like L'Oreal beauty products] is worth it.

     The next day, Alfonso and MP are strolling arm in arm through the plaza. Peep [no doubt fighting disturbing flashbacks of his last foray through the plaza] follows them at a slight distance, then calls to MP that they need to talk privately. How rude, Fernando, don't you see I'm with someone? Whatever - let's go somewhere private. We have nothing to talk about, there's nothing between us. Whatever - who's this dippy guy you're with? [like a middle schooler] He's my boyfriend!

     Pizarro-Montero-Garcia

     Pizza convinces Montero of a few things: restore Garcia to the rank of Sargeant. He can be useful to them, and having his post back will make him loyal. He tries to get Monte to let him feed Esme like any other prisoner, but Monte won't give in (Pizza has already told Garcia to go ahead anyway). Monte does relent some on keeping her alive. Pizza says Esme is all they have left if they need to negotiate with the Spanish crown. This is all in the context of the fact that Pizza's men haven't been able to find Sara Kali, she could be on her way to Spain, and the Marquesa will be coming-round-the-mountain- again-when-she-comes, since they failed to kill her.

     Somehow, in what feels like the middle of the night, Montero manages to get the dais all dolled up for Garcia's reinstitution as Sargeant. Garcia is ready to complete the oath of allegiance to the Comandante/Comandancia when he sees still-drunk Diego make his way through the crowd. Diego's presence is disturbing enough to Garcia that he hesitates to say "I swear," and has to be angrily prompted by Montero. But he does it with fingers crossed behind his back.

     Cata-Pizarro-Tobias-Agapito

     Pizarro won't take no for an answer, and Gata Miau Miau relents - she'll continue to be his amante so he won't kill Tobias. Back at home, Catalina continues her fight with Tobias. He's upset she didn't defend him in her last meeting with Pizarro. She rails at him for not being like every other man [not sure about this], and he reminds her that he is the son of a count, and she's not much of anything. Rails at him about not consummating the marriage, and he says that she ruined that by sleeping with Pizarro [yeah, buddy, but how about the hundred other nights since your wedding, before you knew about this]. Tobias swears vengeance on Pizza, and Cata wants him to be careful, but he says it's too late for her to wish him that.

     Tobias speaks to Agapito, and rehashes the story of Sara Kali and Pizarro for audience members who are just catching on. Tobias wants Aga to bring SK to him. Aga doesn't need to know why. Which leads to...

     The Gypsies

     Ana Camila's ankle is doing much better now, thankyouverymuch. Renzo asks after her, and leaves his hands on her wrapped foot for a little too long, IMO. They'll reach a town [L.A.? San Diego?] tomorrow, and he's going to play his violin to make them some dough. She loves to hear that he plays the violin - so did her late father. Renzo promises to play for her the next day. [Bright spot of the night: We're spared a sight of Laisha's sourpuss. Yay!]Azucena comes over to the chat, and then they realize they've lost a six-foot- half-naked ebony dude. [What follows is probably the most ridiculous scene in the novela yet. It hurts me just to remember it] Camba is now a champion Ultimate Fighting guy, and takes on a dude twice his size and bests him. Camba's eyes have turned blue with the demon inside him, which gives him the super strength. They fight in a barn, surrounded by dozens of hollering, betting "gentlemen."

     The next day, the Gypsies go through town spinning plates, telling fortunes, and being merry people. SK sees them from a short ways away. She's still in leper garb, but has evidently left the Leper Lair. She recognizes her people, but she can't allow them to see her! Hermes looks at her back with interest as she gives this monologue, but doesn't approach her.

     Agapito tells Tobias that he went to get SK, but she's left Leper Lair. Tobias is distraught - his plan is up in smoke - Pizza is going to kill him for sure!

     The Gypsy parades runs into - Camba! He's now dressed like a lower middle class guy, with a New World shirt and pants. He and Ana Camila are delirious to see each other. His "Don King" tells them that's the first time he's heard him speak, and that he's a great fighter. Ana Camila seems distressed to hear this. Renzo seems distressed at how chummy she is with Camba.

     Yumalai-Almudena-Alehoundro

     Almudowner now wants Yuma to try on Spanish undergarments [El Secreto de Victoria]. They're in the master bedroom at Chez Infidelity. Yuma thinks they must be very pretty on Almu, Alejandro must like to see her in them. Almudena doesn't wear stuff like that anymore; Almudena is now celibate. She gets up to get a brush to do Yuma's hair. In the bathroom, or whereever, she feels dizzy. No, Lord, don't take me before I've taught Yumalai the Kama Sutra!

     Alejandro walks into his room, and is stopped by the sight of Yuma in her corset and duck britches. A conversation of some sort. [Nausea on my part] Almudena comes back into the room, and appears unsettled to see Alejandro standing there talking like it's nothing. He beats a hasty retreat.

     Yuma approaches Alehoundro in the stable the next day. He doesn't need to apologize for seeing her dressed that way - she has no shame about what happened. She reports that Almudowner continues to have the RegiPurnia death-prep dreams, and Alej is anguished to hear it. I think Yuma embraces him from the back, and this is just the moment Almu enters the stable.

     AT THE END

     Diego is summoned to the church by Padre Tomas. They chitchat briefly about Diego's fight with Fernando - Padre Tomas is glad Diego fought without giving away the secret (nice trick with the inebriation). Diego says that he and Peep are not done yet. PT has heard rumors Montero has men buying arms in [Lower] Mexico [or maybe Mexico City, I don't know how they mean it]. But Montero has no money! One guess as to who's doing the financing. Diego and PT figure Peep is allying himself with Montero in anticipation of the de la Vegas attacking him. [not clear on this]Diego says WTTE of Peep's got the wrong idea about a military attack, but yes, they will do away with both of them.

     Mugre has put something [what was it?] in the Bufala Blanca potion for Almudena that MP conveniently left lying around. Mugre is now trying to poison her aunt to hasten her death, ultimately leaving Mugre and her Mugre Spawn the only heirs to the de la Vega fortune.

     An interestingly hangover-free Diego sidles up to Garcia's table the next day. Garcia can't quite meet his eyes. Diego insists on knowing what happened to Esme...

(which truth would that be? that she couldn't possibly have travelled to Faux Ángeles in the short time Kooko had it take? that she couldn't be a widow since no king was murdered around that time? that her "guards" are useless? that Kooko has NO RESPECT WHATSOEVER for his viewers???)

     -La Reina sabrá sobre Esmeralda.

     Queenie-pie will learn about Esme. (THAT is the exploding truth???!? GMAB!! plus, it's not like Esme's a threat anyway. or did Kooko decide to retcon out that whole little bit where MarquieMarq (or someone, don't remember who) explains how even though Whiney Queen is the Twoo Queen, Esme is not and cannot be a claimant to the throne in the event of Whiney's death...?)

     TITLE: Van a atrapar al Zorro. (They're going to trap Zorro.) (yeah, let's see if that happens. though if it doesn't, it won't be because of any intelligence on the part of our supposed hero, but just coincidence that the bad guys again couldn't hold onto him.)

(literally, he will bite the hook. and as mentioned above, of course he will take the bait. because he doesn't think. why he couldn't just have told Queenie-Pie everything when he broke in the first time is just ridiculous. but Kooko clearly couldn't be bothered to think of an ACTUAL reason that actually makes any kind of sense to have Zorro nearly be captured AGAIN, so he just had Zorro break into Queenie-Pie's room to drop a few hints as a a preview to his next invasion. Kooko: Zorro's supposed to be unexpected and to act in secrecy. announcing stuff is neither unexpected nor secret. i'd say to get a clue already, but the exponentially-multiplying number of WTF?!?s in recent episodes shows me i'd be wasting my breath. clearly, you checked out some time ago, and now aren't even pretending to go through the motions.)

     -El enigma del medallón, está por aclararse.

     The enigma of the medallion (and again, no comma needed) is about to be understood. (let me get this straight: Esme's been wearing this for how long with no-one even saying "oh, pretty necklace!" and now suddenly everyone knows it's Important and a Major Clue?? GMAB!!)

     I'm a little confused about Olmos. At first, he was being paid by someone (duke jacobo?) basically to get rid of esme and sara kali. Esme trusted him and he was involved in the prison escape of SK, but his ultimate plan, whatever it was, was foiled when Montero caught esme. Then, he tried to get in with esme again through aguirre, and esme seemed to trust him again, but that "plan" sort of fizzled too. I'm not really sure what his intentions are now. I'm also confused about why esme has trusted Olmos over time but not Pizarrro. I know olmos said some nice things to esme at first but was really against her and that pizarro was bad at first (beat diego, etc.) but now supports esme, but is that all that we have to go on? Any thoughts/help appreciated.

     A sign fell from the sky. (LAI!! that word would be "cielo," not "cieelo." get yourself a spell-check program while you're having the extra sugar! how many times do i have to tell you??!? as for the "avance," if you're referring to Esme's discarded clothing that Diego found at the end of last night's episode, they didn't fall from the sky -- they floated down the river. see, a river is water and it runs along above (or sometimes below) the ground. which is part of the planet, and NOT part of the stuff that's not actually ON the planet somehow. like, say, SKY. now, if you're talking about some other character and circumstance, then i'd say we're all for things falling from the sky. and if they could be heavy anvils and maybe hit a few writers and especially television executives in charge of hiring writers and overseeing production on the head, well... so much the better. if it didn't knock some sense into them, it might at least get them out of our way for a while so we can maybe get the story we SHOULD have had ALL ALONG with this project and not this wannabe... whatever it is. because it's sure not a novela. nor a Western. nor a historical. nor a fable. nor even a farce. it's just a pathetic waste of a lot of very talented people's abilities with the odd moment when we caught a tantalizing glimpse of what it COULD have been.)

     And destiny will bring a new path for the heart. (good. because the old one sure wasn't getting us anywhere at all. that's what happens when you go in circles...)

(well, first of all, she doesn't need to discover Diego's identity -- she already knows who he is, as does pretty much everyone else in town. what she "discovers" is his SECRET identity as Zorro, and she doesn't discover it so much as deduce it, which isn't at all the same thing, LAI!! that's why we have different words for things. go down to your local bookstore and ask about a dictionary. it's a useful little book... unless.... are you maybe trying to tell us that in the absence of the ever-resourceful Bernardo, Mugre has also found a way into the Zat Cueva or found some other hard proof of her new suspicion...? )

     TITLE: Mariángel descubre la identidad de Diego. (Mugre discovers the identity of Diego). (yes, LAI, you said that already. look, i know i told you not to spend the next X weeks endlessly telling us that the story's in its final chapters, but this is ridiculous. you didn't even TRY!!! all you did was take out the elipse and exchange an upper-case letter for its lower-case counterpart. c'mon, put a LITTLE effort into it -- the least you could have done was change it up a tiny bit. or just take out a few words -- something!!)

     Diego is definitely threatened. (yes, but by what? the "Amazons"? his agent? Guy Williams' fans (is this airing in Argentina)? his own common sense, finally kicking in??)

     The danger is serious. (hah. we keep saying that about Kooko's writing, and yet look what we keep getting! you're not scaring us, LAI.)

     Because the secret of his identity (NO COMMA, LAI!!!) will be discovered. (see rant in the teaser.)

     -Una verdad que podría correr como pólvora.

     A truth that could run like powder (or dust). (or in other words, spread like wildfire, something with which many of us viewers, sadly, have had some experience lately... um, LAI, do you know what a "mixed metaphor" is? i'm guessing you don't, because otherwise you'd know that neither dust nor powder can run. FLY, maybe. or rather, it certainly can fly, if the amount of dusting i have to do in my apartment every summer is any indication. but not run.)

     A decisive duel nears. (ah, right. are we supposed to believe it's between THAT. MAN. and Diego? because somehow i just don't see that. THAT. MAN. didn't seem the least bit inclined to want to take Diego on. then again, Kooko's short-term memory seems to be getting worse all the time, so at this point i would not be surprised to discover that Diego actually isn't Zorro after all, Pizza is. and Diego's just an imposter who's been filling in for him while Pizza battles his inner demons and cures his split personality, having already gotten the one that wanted to wear pink tutus and the one who thought he was the Dali Lama under control. um, is that too cynical?)

     A dangerous trap will be set. (um, isn't that kinda the point of a trap? that it be dangerous to the person or thing you intend to trap? Tinhorn's a lunatic, but i can't think he would deliberately set a trap that is dangerous to himself...)

(considering Zorro's favorite weapon is supposed to be the rapier, our Zorro sure seems to spend a lot of time with various kinds of bombs and anachronistic guns. i mean, i know he can't help it if his enemies use these kinds of weapons and he needs to respond as he thinks appropriate, and i know that although the actors have had sword training for this part they still aren't so skilled as actors of yore were wont to be, but i still can't help feeling there has been a general paucity of actual swordplay in this novela, considering it's about Zorro. which isn't the point here, but really, HAS there been a point to this show, especially recently? i'm thinking not really...)

     In it's final stage! (yes, LAI, WE. KNOW. ALREADY.) The truth has been discovered now that Esme knows the dead baby (NO COMMAS!!!) is not her child. For her part, Mugre will discover her sad truth. (more truths. yet, tragically, the truth that really matters --that Kooko has gotten progressively more delusional with each new novela and therefore requires MORE supervision rather than less-- doesn't seem to have registered yet with the folks at Telemundo. or if it has, it was WAY too late for this story. which is a true shame.)

     -El destino sigue jugando con el amor. Todo está calculado. Ahora Diego arriesgará la vida al enfrentar a su enemigo. ¿Será el corazón de Esmeralada el que resulte amenazado?

     Destiny continues playing with love. (oh, spare. me.) Everything is calculated. (really? you could've fooled me...) Now Diego will risk his life upon confronting his enemy. (as opposed to the other times he's confronted his enemy... didn't he risk his life then, too? and do you seriously expect us to believe he won't win in the end? well, "win" in the end, since in order to actually WIN win he'd've had to have a writer who hasn't gone completely around the bend.) Will Esme's heart be the one that ends up threatened? (huh??? can i have some of the drugs you're on, LAI? i only saw the very end of last night's episode but if that is anything to go by, i will probably need them to get through the rest of it...)

 

 

SUMMARIES OF EPISODES FOR WEEK OF JULY 2-6, 2007

     Maris, be glad you've missed what you have...frankly, this storyline seems so ridiculously deja vu to me - just substitute marriage to a real man instead of one to God...

     I actually did think MP would go through with the wedding to Alfonso - and I wouldn't rule out that it will still happen tomorrow. Almudena and Dololes might just take her out back and smack her around a bit, and she'll come to her senses, go back into the chapel, and get married.

     "When the hell did Fernando decide to find God again?"

In a series of events over a couple of days, Fernando beat Alfonso within an inch of his life and was interrupted by MP, who railed at him royally. Later, when he learned of their engagement, he took all of these experiences in, coupled with her insults, and decided to "free" her by killing himself. Brother Aaron found him before he died, and down the road they went to their spiritual quest (again). When Brother Aaron was murdered during an exorcism, Peep decided that he would dedicate the rest of his life to asking forgiveness from those he wronged. (Personally, I think he should've started with Esme and SK before los de la Vega, but he's still of a one-track mind)

     "He kinda does deserve to suffer"

     Well, yeah. Only at this point, I don't think there's any way to make Fernando suffer. He clearly welcomes physical pain and torture. He's certainly not afraid of death, and has gone after it a few times now. And, unless he was plotting something at the door to chapel before the wedding, he appears resigned to having lost MP.

     Maybe the only thing that could suitably punish him now is if MP died...but that might just make him feel sorry for himself, which he already does in abundance.

 

Telenovela-World:     We still don't know for sure if Santiago...  [USA, 7/2/07]   Author: Gillie78 (---)  Date:   07-03-07 12:37 PDT

     is good or bad. But we know he's at least ornery. He took some money from Mugre, promising to help her find out if Diego is Zorro. Mugre threatened to hurt Santiago if he double-crosses her. So we will see.

     Yumi revived Almu, who had been seeing Regina coming for her. Then Yumi said she had to go on a trip and would not tell anyone where she was going. Later Yumi meets up with Regina (don't ask me!), and we did not get to see what happened next.

     Bernardo seems to be feeling better.

     Mugre and Olmos did the deed. Mugre came to (no pun intended), and started yelling at Olmos and beating him. She chases him into the street (both of them are practically naked), accusing him of rape. Montero is there, and he throws Olmos in jail. Mugre goes to see Olmos and asks him what he slipped her. He tells her the truth. He gloats that he will never forget being with her, and she will never forget being with him.

     Santiago challenges Diego to a duel. Diego finally, reluctantly agrees, but the contest does not last long. Santiago is offended that Diego lost on purpose and asks him if he is Zorro.

     Esme says goodbye to the Amazons and heads for L.A.

     Garcia and Camba share a bottle of wine. Camba learns a new Spanish word: "Vi-no."

     Montero gets a report that Diego has been holed up at the hacienda, tending to an injured employee.

     The gypsies receive their forged invitations to the masquerade ball.

     The queen invites "the Duke of Bracamonte?" to the ball after he sent her a kind note.

     That's what I can remember. I'm sure there's a lot that I missed.

     i wasn't paying a whole lot of attention last night, so this is in no particular order and there's almost certainly stuff missing. still, here goes...:

     the bloom is off the rose for Mugre and B.OB. and she had him arrested for rape even though she had been a willing partner right up until, as ordered by Stevie, Mugre suddenly became unenchanted mid-tryst. Tinhorn happily tossed B.OB. in jail but B.OB. is unrepentant.

     Esme is now the Countess of something (Bracamonte? i don't remember), thanks to García and Camba doing a deal with some impoverished nobleman. as countess, she sent a note to Queenie-pie, who naturally issued an invitation to the ball. the Eeevil Duke of La Fea is upset because he doesn't know anything at all about this countess person. Esme's going to go to the ball (natch!) but she tells the Amazons she doesn't need their support.

     Camba learned to say "vino." García got really drunk.

     it's still not clear if THAT. MAN. is a good guy at heart or not. it appears he is going to let Mugre bribe him to discover if Diego really is Zorro or not, to which end he challenged Diego to some sword practice. Diego didn't seem to be going along quite as THAT. MAN. expected.

     Ad Nauseum shows up for confession and tells Yoda Tomás who he is and how he's a monk now, having been ordained by Aaron prior to Aaron's death. he tells Yoda T he feels really badly about all the rotten stuff he's done, especially to the de la Verga family. Yoda T tells him he needs to apologize to the people he's wronged and ask for their forgiveness.

     Yummy's magic medicine cures Bernardo. she uses the rest of it to help cure Blabmu, who is delirious and says she sees Regina coming for her in a cart or something. Yummy leaves, saying she has to go on an errand for Buffie. both Rat Pecs and Diego offer to accompany her, but she says they can't go where she has to go and leaves without them. she calls out to her sister and says to take her instead of Blabmu. i think that's the last we're going to see of Yummy.

     before his tryst with Mugre, B.OB. tried to return to Chez Infidelity but the Random Ranchhand that Diego had told to make sure that neither Mugre nor B.OB. could come back into the hacienda stopped him from entering. he told B.OB. that Mugre was dying (because at the time, she was), so B.OB. conveyed this news to Mugre. so now Mugre has a shock coming when she discovers that her aunt isn't dead after all.

     the ever more tiresome María Poo comes for breakfast and, since it is just her, Diego, and Rat Pecs at the table, breaks the news to the guys that Whiney Queen isn't dead after all, but very much alive.

     Diego tells his father that Mugre was the one who had been poisoning Blabmu. stupidly, both men decide they can't tell Blabmu. yeah, that's a good decision.

     Meanwhile, Mugre will learn a truth that will unleash more anger. (she learns about the baby already? or does she learn that Santiago is playing her? that Esme is alive after all? that no-one's buying her poor-little-me act anymore...?) And a dangerous doubt, a painful truth, will generate conflicting passions. (LAI, i'm really tired of speaking to you about the need for an editor here. stop being so tiresome and get yourself one. as for the doubt/truth thing, i can only assume that LAI is referring to something Esme/Diego here, but i am too jammed at work right now to have any energy to spare trying to think about what he's on about, even if i cared, which i am pretty sure i don't anymore. anyone else have any ideas...?)

Esme's at risk of catching the dreaded Rat Pecs cooties from Blabmu who, poor deluded woman, is now completely riddled with them to the point it's clouding her judgement.)

     -¡En su etapa final! Esmeralda se juega la vida y una confirmación, desatará una avalancha.

     In its final stage! (not content with just saying that every day, now LAI is putting it in BOLD PRINT. get a life, LAI!! and a vocabulary, while you're at it...!!) Esme risks her life and a confirmation (NO. COMMA, LAI!!! get a clue already!!) will unleash an avalanche. (ok, while it HAS snowed here in Los Angeles (yes, really, it has! i didn't experience it myself personally, but i have seen pictures and know people who i trust who did experience it themselves), it has never snowed enough --at least, not since the last Ice Age, so well past living memory-- to have any sort of avalanche except maybe if you're an ant. not to mention that one snow and sleet are two of the few WT-- er, i mean, unnatural phenomena that Kooko has so far forgotten to include in his portrayal of Faux Ángeles. (we won't even get into the concept of trying to put a leash on a snowbank...) but let us assume that Mr Comma King LAI is speaking metaphorically about this avalanche. so what confirmation are we talking about? the confirmation that "Mugre's" baby is really Esme's? that Esme is really still alive? that LAI STILL has a backlog of unused commas he feels he has to scatter randomly through his text (you know, LAI, you could have gotten away with using that comma without comment if you'd just put it after "vida" instead of "confirmación." i'm not saying it is actually necessary after "vida," but that at least would have made some kind of grammatical sense)? that Kooko has only NOW, barely 20 episodes from the end of the story, realized it is subtitled "The Sword and THE ROSE" and has decided to take that literally?)

Does she have a lover? (DUH!!) The heart will burn in the fire of suspicion and the treachery will be discovered. ('...burn in the fire of suspicion...'?? GMAB, LAI! you have GOT to stop reading cheap romance novels!! even a Harlequin writer knows better than that!) What will the consequences be? (um, have we discovered the joys of font formatting, perhaps, LAI...?? you know, you can probably do colors, too... but let's try not to get carried, away, ok?)

(quite possibly he will, since he thinks Diego's a wuss. but will Diego let himself be killed? i don't think so. i think the bigger question is, if Diego does get into it with Tinhorn, will he keep up his front, or will he allow his real skill to be seen, thinking it won't matter if Tinhorn is dead...?)

(like it's a big surprise to anyone. oh, wait, maybe it's a surprise to Diego, who, even believing Mugre capable of murdering her aunt, still seems to have bought her "i'm so crazy about you" act.) And while the heart offers a powerful signal (huh?), the so-awaited party (aka the masked ball, yet another of the many WTF??!? moments in this story) will explode the truth. (oh for heaven's sake, LAI -- get a grip already!! even though now it's actually after noon, it's still way too early in the morning for this kind of tripe.) it will be hot! (or burning. or incendiary. or something. the thing is, what do you mean by "hot," LAI? are you trying to say, hot like Paris Hilton "that's hot!"? hot like Playboy bunny hot? (after all, given the the costume designer's work throughout the show would indicate that's pretty much a given anyway) hot like literally hot? (all those lights, costumes, and masks, with people all crowded onto the soundstage, it could well get pretty toasty...) or hot like you're just talking and trying to fake us out?)

AND we know what will happen. and it involves Shirtless Diegorro, so it can't be too bad...) Love will confront destiny and the heart will confirm suspicions? (what suspicions?? if it's Diego suspecting the Mystery Woman was Esme, hah! sure, he's been maaaadly curious about both the Masked Zorrette and the new countess, but if he's had even a desperate, hopeless hunch either that MZ = NC, or that either was Esme, it's the first we've heard of it. or maybe the suspicions LAI is referring to are Esme's that Diego still loves her. except she shouldn't have "suspicions" he still loves her because people she trust who also know Diego and who are in a position to know have already TOLD her he still loves her. stop just making up stuff you think sounds good, LAI!)

     In other news, the meeting that everyone was waiting for arrived. Diego and Esme... together again. (LAI, this is supposed to be AVANCES, not a "RECAP." this happened yesterday and you know it. so stop wasting time!!) Justice will hit implacably and Queenie-Pie will realize that there was a plot. (LAI!!!!! Queenie-Pie already KNOWS there was a plot!!! and while she doesn't KNOW about some of the other plots surrounding her and others in Faux Ángeles, she has already started to suspect they exist. so this is not news either. you're wasting time, LAI! what? did you only watch your cuate's promo for tonight and nothing else? because otherwise there's no explaining this nonsense.)

     But Tinhorn will fight at all costs and Queenie-Pie will be in danger for her life. (yup, you only watched the promo.) A mortal threat will explode (with all this exploding, things are going to get really messy. i hope they have a good cleaning crew.) and Tinhorn will set a trap. (i think he does more than SET the trap, if the more-than-usually meagre content of TPC's promo is anything to go by...) it will be hot!      In its last chapters! (variations on a theme. but you're still wasting space, LAI!) B.OB. the Bombproof returned from the dead to get revenge (or something), but jealousy made him talk. (...because he couldn't talk before? are you maybe confusing B.OB. with Bernardo? i mean, i know they're both short and all, but Bernardo is kinda cute in an elfin, sortof Puckish way, while B.OB. is... well, not. or are you just trying to say that the flames, stabbing, and bombing has removed any sense of discretion B.OB. once had and is causing him to blab everything he knows to everyone he meets...?) Now everyone knows that Mugre's son was stillborn, while the son of Diego and Esme lives. (and again with the everyone, LAI...! does Gata Miau Miau know? (and if she does, does she know that Tinhorn was the father and not Diego?) how about the barmaid at the tavern...? does SHE know?)

     -¡Y Montero quiere al niño muerto! El bebé corre grave peligro y la identidad del Zorro se ve amenazada. ¿Se revelará el secreto?¿Qué pasará con el recién nacido?¡Candente estará!

     And Tinhorn wants the baby dead! (alternative translation: "And Tinhorn loves the dead baby!" although, despite his somewhat goo-goo-gaa-gaa behaviour back when he believed the living baby was his, i think it's pretty clear the first translation is the one intended here...) The baby is in serious danger and Zorro's identity finds itself threatened. (ok, there is a better way to say it in English than going for a near-literal translation. but the near-literal is so much more fun. only Zorro's identity is threatened, but not the rest of him? sorry, it just makes me laugh.) Will the secret be revealed? (i'm thinking "No," but Kooko's mileage may vary...) What will happen to the newborn? (he'll live, because good guy babies almost invariably live in novelas --even bad guy babies usually survive, if one of the parents is good or at least "redeemable," which is probably a large part of the reason Mugre and Tinhorn's poor doomed baby didn't survive, i'm guessing. i mean, besides Kooko needing an excuse for Esme's baby to live, that is.) it will be hot! (just to prove his capacity for copycat invention is extremely limited, LAI tweaks his former #1 cliché but leaves his #2 alone...!!)

     In its last chapters! (you just can't give that up, can you, LAI?) Zorro finally reveals his identity. (well, "finally" except for the time he revealed it to Esme near the start of the novela. and then "finally" again in yesterday's ep, when he revealed it to Mugre and Tinhorn Despot. but other than that, no-one knows!! well, except for Bernardo, of course. and Yoda Tomás. so are you trying to tell us that Zorro reveals it to someone else, LAI? or are you just confused about what is happening in which episode these days...?)

     -¡Desgracia! ¿Le llegó la hora al Comandante Montero?

     Disgrace! (um, ok.) Is Tinhorn's time up? (one can but hope. i mean, as much as i've been enjoying Harry's too-fab performance as Tinhorn, it is about time Tinhorn was removed from our lives. although, there are still several days until the finale, so maybe he won't be gone quite yet...)

     ¡Arrepentimiento! Fernando le pide perdón a Sara Kalí. ¿Hasta dónde llegará el rencor?

     Repentance! (going for the one-liners now, are we, LAI?) Ad Nauseum (who has again renounced being a monk) asks Whiney Queen's pardon. (don't give it, WQ!! don't give it!!) (well, considering the circumstances, i'd say pretty damn far. but Kooko seems daily more determined to Redeem Ad Nauseum, so who knows...? i will say this: NO HAPPY ENDING FOR AD NAUSEUM. and no baby, either -- they neither of them (Ad Nauseum or Morona Poo) deserve it, although if Kooko wants to have her live, i suppose that's ok.)

But this isn't all, because Diego got found out. (who told Rat Pecs he could go trolling around in the first place??) Because his father [the so-despicable] Rat Pecs discovers his identity! (booo! BOOOO!! someone kill Rat Pecs NOW!)

     -¡EL PENÚLTIMO CAPÍTULO! Cuando dos almas se aman, es imposible que nadie pueda separar ese amor. Diego y Esmeralda están hechos el uno para el otro y él le propuso matrimonio a su amada.

     THE SECOND-TO-LAST CHAPTER! (hah! i already said that, LAI!! try not to be such a total copycat!) When two souls are in love, it's impossible for anyone to separate this love. (well, try to put it a LITTLE more awkwardly, LAI! haven't you had enough coffee yet?) Diego and Esme are made for each other and he proposed marriage (again! don't forget the "again" part, LAI!! last night was, what...? the third time? the fourth?) to his beloved. (by the way, LAI, these are supposed to be AVANCES, not "Dear Diary..." -- that's what you do the summaries for, remember? i'm just saying, you know, because this whole fourth proposal thing happened LAST NIGHT. or are you trying to say Diego proposes YET AGAIN??)

     1) Was anyone else confused when Esme took off her mask and Mugre looked shocked? For some reason I assumed Mugre and Monte knew who "La mujer de la Rosa" was. Note to Esme: next time you should get a top-half of face mask like Zorro has, because your eyes totally give you away.

     2) THAT.MAN saving the baby??? I can buy coincidences but that was a bit much.

     3) Esme and Zorro were really lame. It never occurred to them that Monte and Mugre would use the baby against them? I thought they had some plan, but no.....

     4) Monte, luckily, is even dumber. He really thinks he can negotiate the ransom of the Queen and not get killed? She is the Queen of Spain! Has he never heard the words "high treason"?

     5) No transition at all from Ale challenging Peep to them suddenly joining forces. I wonder if we are being cut, that was abrupt even for Kookoo.

     6) I weirdly did like Zorro sending Esme and the baby away. If nothing else the baby needs to be taken care of. Anyway, maybe finally Zorro can do something useful? For once?

     7) Mugre: JA!

     EDIT: Forgot to mention I like the (almost literal) cliffhanger, too. Good use of the scenery!

     I enjoyed the slap happy Montero having a feast with Mugre's face... but then it slowed down and made all (Montero, Mugre, Zorro and Esme) all act dumb at unison..

     Zorro telling Esme... 'let me handle this'.. only to take his mask off and obey... (GMAB!!! THAT"S HANDLING IT??!!!)

     Esme shouting 'Hurry up!!!' 'Hurry Up!!' when I have never seen anyone undo three knots of rope any faster than Diego did... (never mind being able to cut through that thick a rope so fast just with a broken glass without trashing your own hands through the gloves being unrealistic ...)

     I missed the ep and it seemed to be one hell of a good one...

     (I dont' remember much about the pizza, agapito, etc so will concentrate on the different parties at and around the river/fall/jungle)

     we see another shot of the falls (beautiful)..

     montero comes out of the water... he is shouting looking for MA..

     Back at the hacienda the soldier who had given his sword to Diego and begged for his life (it was him?) came with the news that Montero, Zorro and MA went down the falls to the river... Esme worried. Garcia conforts her saying that Zorro has got out of worse situations...

     back to the jungle... Diego is out of the water, still catching his breath... realizes he lost his mask, then notices where he is... 'no, no, not again!.. cala-cala land!'...

     regroups and moves forward to look for Montero and mugre... (come on Diego, just get the heck outathere!!)'

     Mugre is around the jungle calling 'Ricardo!!'... and hearing weird sounds around her, she begins to get scared 'who is there??'...

     back up river PT finds the queen, he is glad she is safe, she says zorro saved her. he asks for zorro, she gives him the bad news, he says don't count him out, he is trained to survive situations like that.

     back at jungle, Diego has spotted Montero and hides from him... then faces him. Montero says Diego won't be able to take him away... diego says dont be silly, you don't realize now but we are in the middle of the land of some cannibal indians, 'come with me if you want to live' (I remember this line from the first Terminator movie). Montero doesn't believe him so they begin to fight...

     back at hacienda, Esme tells Almu she has to go find Diego, please take care of the baby... she goes to the cave... grabs her arrow thing and tries to convince Bernardo to stay behind but then agrees to let him come too... Bernardo takes some more weapons with them...

     meanwhile at town Pizza and some other soldiers are getting together to go kill Montero, but then someone comes riding to town with the news Montero died, and probably also Zorro. The whole townsmen turn on Pizza and other soldiers and give him a beating...

     Alejandro's party runs into PT and the queen... they tell him what happened, she begs Alejandro to go find out what happened to Zorro... Alejandro says ok will do... they go on, PT moves on with the queenie..

     PT gets to town with the queen on a wagon, the whole town is throwing flowers at her, she is really moved, PT says your people love you queen... she happily announces she will never again allow for more conspiracy to prevent her from taking care of her people.

     back at the jungle, Montero has managed to knock Diego to the ground and runs away a little... but then realizes he is facing the cannibal indians... he knocks a couple of them but when the third is facing him Diego comes behind the indian and gives him the necktwist 'see ya!'... Montero: 'Don't expect me to thank you!'...

     Diego: you will come with me, and I assure you what awaits you back in town is worse than this... Montero: I will NEVER go with you!

     Montero pulls a knife out of his boot...

     Mon: Did you know I tortured Esme while she was pregnant? (You can tell Diego is holding back his anger, but at same time he is looking around and notices down below to the left of Montero something that catches his attention, we still don't know what it is) I should have killed you both but I will do it now.. DIE YOU BASTARD!!

     (Diego skips a couple of Montero's knife swings... Diego tackles him and they end up on the floor, Montero on top of Diego, whose head is just about at the edge of the water... Montero tries to stab Diego down but Diego stops the knife and they are fighting for control of the knife... (As they are struggling to get control of the knife, you can tell Diego is worried about whatever is behind him in the water) From Montero's face you can tell he is losing the battle, suddenly Montero stares at Diego scared, Diego says 'remember what I said?? that my face was the last thing you would see??' Diego pushes the knife up right into Montero's chest, Montero pulls up a little and sees his hands full of blood with the knife stuck in his chest, then stares at Diego again right before Diego uses his leg to push Montero up over him right into the water... turns out what Diego had spotted was a troop of piranhas (Sp?) and Montero has fallen right smack middle of them.

     Diego backs up to watch the spectacle... (his face is more creeped out frozen than enjoying it but he stays there until Montero is totally under water) EEEWW!!!

     then we see Mugre has been surrounded by the cannibals and she screams... Diego hears Mugre's scream, whispers .. Mariangel!... then takes off deeper into the jungle... (comm break)

     we think Diego will get to MA... but he ends up facing another band of cannibals... as he is dealing with the first guy and the second guy throws a lance that Diego catches to use it to fight, Esme shoots a second cannibal with an arrow right smack of the back... Diesme sees Esme and bernardo and nods a yes, (I think this meant dont worry i can handle these) but Esme and Bernardo are attentive in case they are needed... Diesme handles the rest of the cannibals one by one with the lance in his hand, when he has knocked all of them down (seems they all ran away, only the one that was killed by Esme was floating on the water), Esme tells Diego 'when they came to the hacienda saying zorro had fallen down river I did not think anymore and came to help you out'... Diego: Thank you Bernardo for coming over... (what about Esme?)

     Esme: You are hurt! (noticing another little gash in his forehead)

     Die: It's nothing... really! it's nothing!...

     (in comes Alejandro around from behind them... )

     Ale: Diego!...

     (Diego looks at Ale, at first glad he is here, then realizes he has the zorro outfit on but no mask so he takes a little bit step back like not ready to face this now...)

     Ale: Diego my son... is zorro!... (Ale is as puzzled and clueless as can be... not being able to do the math... Diego keeps staring at dad...)

     (we see previews, seems like finally Diego has come forward with his truth... is giving Ale a tour down Zorro's cafe, then is in bed with Esme asking her to marry him and giving her an eng. ring)

     (but we see someone's feet, to me they are Montero, [even if I never heard of anyone totally inmersed in water feasted with piranhas that has survived and is able to walk around]... is walking down the jungle, barefoot... boy those are some UGLY FEET!!! definitely male... so if it's not Montero, it can only be Olmos.

     -¡El capítulo final! -¡El capítulo final! Todo es felicidad para Diego y Esmeralda. Ambos tienen a su hijo y a sus familiares. Además, la Reina de España les ha bendecido con su presencia y está preparada para implantar justicia. Alejando es el nuevo Gobernador y todo parece tomar un buen rumbo.

     Cuando dos almas se aman, es imposible que nadie pueda separar ese amor. Diego y Esmeralda están hechos el uno para el otro y él le propuso matrimonio a su amada.

     The final episode! (geez, LAI -- last Friday's penultimate episode warranted capital letters, but the finale doesn't?? where are your priorities??) All is happiness for Diego and Esme. Both have their son and their families. (including Ad Nauseum, never mind that hypocritical poseur Rat Pecs, so are we sure all is really happiness...? it sure wouldn't be for me!) What's more, the Queenie-Pie of Sapin has blessed them with her presence and is prepared to instill ("implant," LAI?? been focusing too much on the necklines in this story, have we??) justice. (yes, and not that i disagree with her punishment for the Eeevil Duke of La Fea, but how come it doesn't seem to have occurred to anyone except maybe Diego that Ad Nauseum should be sharing in at least some of the EDoLF's punishment...??) Rat Pecs is the new Governator (look out, Faux Ángeles. at least with Ad Nauseum you knew you had a bad guy. Rat Pecs still has everyone snowed...) and all appears to be taking a good course. (the key word there being "appears," of course...)

     Pero asoma la desgracia. Esmeralda y Diego caminan por el altar. Su boda es la más esperada. Pero nadie sabe que Mariángel tiene a Esmeralda en la mirilla. ¿Hasta dónde llegará su veneno? ¡Un capítulo que te dejará con la boca abierta!.

     But misfortune turns up. (of course. the word "FIN" has yet to appear at the end of an episode, so naturally something has yet to happen. plus, we've got Mugre wheezing around all over the place. odd that no-one in the church has noticed her yet...) Esme and Diego walk toward the altar. (i thought they were already there? then again, i wasn't paying a whole lot of attention on Friday, so maybe they're still en route...) Their wedding is the most-awaited. (well, by them, at least. i'm sure other people who are marrying their beloveds might feel that their OWN weddings are the most-awaited. desireability is in the eye of the beholder, after all...) But no-one knows that Mugre has Esme in her sights. (literally, "peephole," which i suppose you could say is kinda true given that she seems to be hiding her face. and i still want to know, the way she's dressed, and the way she's dragging around, and the way she's wheezing and whatnot and NO-ONE's noticed her yet?? give me a break!) How far will she go for revenge? (well, obviously a lot further than many would. but that's typical of novela villains, so i guess it's to be expected...) An episode that will leave you gaping! (well, that remains to be seen. i will gape if: Rat Pecs is killed (then i'll applaud.); or if Diego, Esme, Dololes, Gata Miau Miau, Tobobo, García, or any of a host of other people are killed. or if no-one dies at all in the church. but otherwise, i doubt there will be much gaping going on. but maybe you're more easily taken aback, given that you hardly pay attention to what's going on anyway, LAI...?)

     After Catalina shot him in the stomach, he lived long enough, with Agapito's help, to try to rally some soldiers to find Montero and kill him. However, when the townspeople heard that Montero died basically at Zorro's hands, they pulled Pizarro off his horse and stomped and beat him to death. This part was done very quickly. We have to assume he died quickly from that since Agapito had told Tobias and Catalina (as the three of them watched in horror that Pizarro was still alive) that Pizarro was already bleeding to death. It was rather anti-climactic, except that his kind of death was rather realistic since mobs have beaten to death people they's seen as enemies.

     As I've posted above, I think his death and Montero's should have been included in the final episode. It would have made a much better final episode.

but Tobias, as you wrote, just looked on sanctimoniously and said Pizarro brought it on himelf. I can't remember if it was Agapito or Tobias who said that Pizarro always wanted to take Montero's place and now he's dead just like Montero. I understood Catalina's fear that Pizarro will come after her for shooting him, but to just stand and watch such a grizzly death....you'd think if Tobias was such a gentleman who respected women, he would have whisked Catalina away so she wouldn't have to see such horrible event.

     in retrospect, i think the reason Tobobo DIDN'T whisk Gata Miau Miau away was because he wanted to kindof rub her nose in it. he was scared of Pizza, but somehow it never seems to have occurred to him that she might have been even more scared of Pizza than he was, and with even better reason, since she doesn't have any real self-defense skills. ok, maybe getting involved with Pizza to start with was a stupid idea, but i'm pretty sure if Tobobo had behaved like a husband, she might have made more of an attempt to end the relationship long before. (by the way, did we ever learn why it is that Tobobo apparently loved her but wouldn't touch her as a woman? if we did, i must've missed that.) but no matter how many times she tried to tell him that she was no longer in her relationship with Pizza by choice, Tobobo insisted on only seeing what he wants to see to justify his rejection of his wife and any "punishment" he chose to dish out. i will grant, he felt hurt and betrayed, and he certainly did always seem to figure her into his equations before he discovered her affair with Pizza (like when he was telling his horse what he would do with the reward money -- get girl horses for his horse, and jewels and stuff for his Gata Miau Miau), but still...

     oh, well, another one of those characters that Kooko couldn't quite decide about, so he tried to eat his cake and have it, too, and as usual, that didn't quite work.

     1. Kind of boring episode except for a few Diesme scenes that were cute -- kissing by the tree; Diegorro telling Esme the secret of making girls and then getting his hands under the sheets and grabbing her.

     I actually enjoyed the episode, although I did expect more action. However, to be fair, there wasn't too many more loose strings to tie in this particular story. I think Montero's and Pizarro's deaths should have been part of the final episode and the totally pirate cr#p should have been cut out since it was clearly irrelevant filler anyhow.

     I thought Diego and Esme showed plenty of feelings when Fernando died, considering what Fernando had put them both through. Diego seemed quite moved, actually, even somewhat horrified. He did make the grand gesture of telling Fernando he forgives him, so Fernando could die in peace.

     Esmeralda would have been fake and unbelievable if she had suddenly pardoned Fernando. She suffered beause of Fernando far more than Diego did, and she doesn't have the luxury of losing those memories until she is old enough to deal with them. It was actually realistic for Fernando to realize, as he said to Esmeralda, "I don't have enough life to give to make up for what I had done to you...so much harm..." Realistically, nothing he could have done could have made up for what he had done to her, so he gave the only life he had for her, and no suffering of his would have given her back all those years and all that suffering.

     I didn't think it was too easy the way MA and Olmos died. They were both barely hanging on only because they each felt they had a mission of vengence to complete. He had nothing to live for once he killed her, and his knifing would have been enough to finish off what the cannibals almost finished.

     I loved the family, father/son scenes. However, I agree that Alejandrito as the new Zorro wasn't convincing enough and not satisfying -- mostly because he showed no conviction in his mission. He clearly liked haveing the sword fighting and shooting skills, but he seemed arrogant and spoilt. He actually seemed reluctant about finally becoming Zorro, that is, until he got his own Tornado. If it weren't for Diego saying that Alejandro always wanted to be Zorro, we wouldn't have known it. And when he rode off, it seemed more like a guy with his brand new sportscar, than a justice fighter going to help villagers in trouble. Besides, Diego seemed more than capable of still being Zorro!

     I totally agree about where are the gypsies, Ana Camila and Renzo, and Santiago. We know that the Cebolla bros were still in Los Angeles at the wedding day since they were in the bar when Tobias was waxing dramatic about women a nd the pirates came in. If the queen died, then what happened to Sara Kali?

     At wedding, PT introduces Diego/Esme as wonderful friends, trying to teach these two about love would be like teaching birds to sing... God has given them a son to fill them with happiness... wishes them eternal happiness... (blessings) .. Diego / Esme keep on smiling and happy as can be...

     Tobias is at town bar reciting his own a-capella poetic inspiration... one of the pirates treats everyone to wine, wants Tobias to keep on talking/reciting..

     Tobias: YO DECLAMO CUANDO ME DA LA GANA!!! I don't entertain the moment for a rufian like you...

     Another pirate tries to assault Fernando as he is heading toward the church... Fernando faces him, but they shoot one of Fernando's men, Fernando takes care of the rest of them but can't save his man Jose... they guy dies after saying it was an honor to serve Fernando... Fernando offers to go get the doctor but too late,..Fernando remembers MA and heads for the church...

     Other pirates are knocking out soldiers, Fernando notices this but continues his way to church...

     TObias is fighting the pirate at the bar, Tobias is having the worst part...

     Olmos is still not well, but has come to town with his scared sidekick guy to meet MA, have to see her... don't have anything to lose... MA is waiting for me with her sensual body, calling me to her side... (his sidekick says it is too dangerous, the pirates are raiding the city, and asks if it is real love, since you are willing to risk your life on this) no, not love, but the worst of spells... but she is alive, can feel it...

     Wedding continues in latin... Sgt Garcia spots Fernando at the back of the church, goes there to meet him... Fer warns Garcia some pirates are raiding the city, go see it for yourself if you don't believe me !! Garcia heads out...

     Cata and her dad are heading to church, pirates assault them... One of them grabs Cata, willing to have a good time with her... Tobias comes out of the house and sees Cata is being taken away, knocks his own pirate assailant off and heads after Cata...

     Diego/Esme say their vows, Fernando is getting close to them and at same time scanning the church for MA... Spots the bracelet on her hand... remembers when he gave it to her, she was so pretty and sweet back then.... Looks surprised at MA's looks from what he can see through robe...

     PT: If anyone has any objection to this marriage... speak now or forever hold your peace... (nothing) then I declare you man and wife (blessing)... the groom can kiss his bride... (kiss, everyone happy)...

     MA points gun at the couple... Fer jumps in front of them (NOOOO!!!!) I(BANG!!!) Fer is hit...MP runs to his side, is devastated and falls with him to floor, she is screaming in pain... everyone known to us is frozen in time, MA is pointing the gun swinging it at whoever is left, all the bystanders are running out of church... THe De la Vegas and friends are totally frozen... (opening credits)

     (outside church... everyone is running out... pirates are mixed in with everyone else... assaulting and being bratts... placing bets with each other on who takes Cata... Tobias is watching them...

     back inside church...

     MA: (through robe) FREEZE!!! Little sister... this darn bullett was meant for you... you all left me stranded at the jungle!... those darn wild natives almost devoured me alive!! but I will heal... and I will be the same as always... and will be your worst nightmare!! ... Darn you!! Darn you all!! (heads out still pointing gun at them)

     (back outside church)

     Olmos is approaching church as MA is coming out... MA recognizes Olmos, 'DARN YOU OLMOS!! YOU SHOULD BE DEAD!!! I KILLED YOU!!! / MA!! I KNEW YOU WERE ALIVE!! / GET AWAY FROM ME!! GET AWAY YOU SLIMY SMELLY HUNCHBACK!! GET AWAY UGLY BEAST!!! / COME HERE I WILL KILL YOU BUT FIRST I HAVE TO TOUCH YOUR ARDENT SKIN!!! HOT LIKE THE SUN!!! (Olmos takes robe off her head) / DID YOU GET SCARED, OLMOS?? DIDN'T YOU LOVE ME?? DIE FOR GOOD!! (shoots him) / YOU WILL GO WITH ME BECAUSE YOU BELONG TO ME!! (Olmos jumps to reach her and stabs her, they both fall to floor slowly, Just then Diego, Esme and Alejandro come out and just watch them die together looking at each other... Diego is astonished, Esme is confused, Ale too... they just stare like idiots...)

     Cata is still being taken away, but Tobias faces the pirate again (same pirate that wanted him to keep reciting his lines at the bar) Pirate puts Cata down to face Tobias but TObias kills him quickly with the sword...Pirate falls dead, Tobias falls back exhausted... Cata runs to Tobias calling him my love... Tobias tells Cata he could not let her be taken away (and something else I could not figure out), there will always be someone wanting to steal you away.... Cata says it all will be different now, we will fight for a future together... love you...

     Ale is yelling We have to move [actuar] Diego!! (Diego is sword in hand but still not doing much) Esme: IT is not neccessary!! (??) (Garcia takes over with his men...) Ale: Arrest them Garcia!! Arrest them!! (LOL!!) (Garcia knocks a pirate out with his fists... LOL!!_)

     (Diego, Esme and ALe are still looking at each other while things keep on happening around them.. LOL)

     (Back at church AGapito tells MP the bad news, There's Nothing he can do... the bullet hit his heart...)

     Fer: Don't worry, MP... Don't worry. God wanted it to be that way, don't you see?

     (Diego and Esme and Ale have made it back to church.. Fernando says goodbye to MP, then calls Ale... Forgive me, brother... Fernando calls for Diego too... where is he...)

     Fer: forgive me... (Regina appears to Fernando saying he needs to come with her) She is here , (meaning Regina), she came to get me... (Diego is holding Esme but leans toward Fernando visibly confused)

     Diego: (lets go of Esme, approaches Fer) Fernando... Fernando I want you to know that I forgive you for what happened with my mother...

     Fer: Thank you, son...

     Ale: Fernando... Fernando... you have our forgiveness... you have our forgiveness...

     Fer: Almu... little sis... Esme!... daughter... how much I hurt you... I did not have enough time/lifetime to pay for everything I did... (Regina calls him again) she is calling me... I will go in peace... MP... my love... (she is crying desperately) wherever I am I will keep on loving you... (dies)

     MP: ... Don't leave me Fer!! Don't leave me!! (crying desperately, Diego holds Esme, PT gives Fer his last rites...)

     (Wonderful acting by Peniche...)

     (days later, funeral services).. Diego and Ale are carrying one of the coffins in front, Agapito in back with others... another coffin beside it... (for a total of 2, not 3, what happened to Olmos' body? did he get cremated?)

     PT is praying for both Fer (God will forgive us if we truly repent... and that is what happened with FSdM)... and for MA so she can find the light of God and the forgiveness for her sins... (blessing) (MP faints but is caught by Esme and Almu) (Diego is not using hands... lol!.. just shoulder)

     (we hear MP say her goodbye words to Fer... I know God will reunite us because all our lives were product of love...even our deepest sins were done by love... you leave in my life the best and the worst memories...)

     (apparently months later, MP has a baby girl... everyone is happy, Ale welcomes the new member of the De la Vega family)

     (Diego arrives late, congratulates MP, even calls her the best mother in the world ... ehem! HELLO!!... Esme says it looks like this baby will be very well covered with love...)

     (... Almu announces she is pregnant..Ale is happiest guy in universe... Diego is amused, wow! I will have a little brother... it is very funny to him, asks Bernardo to arrange a toast... LOL going to have a little brother...)

     (at next meeting of the cofradia... (Alejandro is in a robe within the group) PT says city has now a fair and good governor... and that Zorro has come to speak to us... Zorro gives up his sword since there is not much more fighting for justice, equality and order left to do... one of the cofradia members says it's ok but we might need you again... Zorro says if so, will be more than ready when the time requires it... they all accept his sword back)

     (a year later, Almu has her baby, MP's baby is a toddler...) In comes Alfonso... has come to give it another shot... MP begins to let him down again, but he says he doesn't want to replace Fer, just wants his own little piece of her heart..., never stopped loving her even if the past still hurts... just want a chance to make a family with you and your baby girl)

     Six years later Diego and Esme are playing hookie at the woods (have to say it's a cute scene), smooching while playing hide and seek with little Alejandro. WHen Alejandro finds them, Diego picks up Ale, hugs him and Esme, they look so happy... Later looks like they are having a family picnic by the lake... Diego is teaching Alejandro the fish rod swing, we see a back shot of Diego scratching his butt, Ale does same... Esme is having picnic with Almu, MP and the other kids, seems Almu had a boy... MP's girl comes to Diego/Alejandrito to bring them food... Diego makes Alejandrito hold both rods while he eats... Does this give anyone else the impression Diego became a laid back bum?? LOL!

     (in town, Garcia seems to be doing very well in his duties... the corporal who was afraid of Zorro is trying to get Garcia to go have a pitcher of wine but Garcia says not while on duty... they both talk about it being boring and quiet ever since MOntero died... the corporal thinks Zorro left with the queen for Spain, but Garcia believes Zorro never left, he is around watching us... always looking after Nuestra Sra de Los Angeles... )

     (after another comm break... Diego has an emotional goodbye with Tornado (my question is why wait 6 years for this if he gave up his sword back then? editing goof-off??) Diego tells Tornado will always have a home waiting whenever you want to come back... wants Tornado to go back to the wild, and if he finds his mate, bring her to Diego to meet her... LOL takes the reigns off and taps Tornado away... Tornado speeds freely...)

     later in bed ...

     Esme: Don't you think it's time to look for a little sis for Alejandrito?

     Die: You want a baby girl? you know the way to get a baby girl??

     Esme: No, do you?

     Die: Of course! that's one of the secrets you pick up on when you become Zorro.. want to find out?

     Esme: of course!... (smooch!)

     (months later... seems Esme is in labor (boy that secret seems very efficient!)... Alejandro and Alfonso are trying to calm down Diego, who is having the Gustavo Gonzalvez fever when wife is in labor, pacing nervously back and forth)...

     Diego tells ALfonso he was looking the same way at church when he went to marry MP (I guess he means second time around). ALfonso says he was afraid MP would play another prank on him... MP comes in right in time to avoid getting Alfonso in trouble...

     (Dolores comes out happy, it's a girl!! Diego is ecstatic, hugging everyone... Let's go to the room !!)

     (Diego bursts in room right toward Esme... Told you my love it was going to be a girl!!... Esme is completely happy now, only missing mom... MP says Mercedes should be back any moment now... Alejandro wants to know what his new granddaughter's name will be... Elena... Let's celebrate!

     Right at that moment Garcia comes with bad news after briefly congratulating the parents... The queen has died...)

     (funeral services in queen's absence... Tobias is hugging Cata, seems those two made it after all)

     Days later, Alejandro announces at family table that the crown is sending a new military commander, Everyone gets concerned right away. Alejandro says it is to be expected due to the recent news of the war with Mexico... Esme gets really concerned... Diego tries to joke and undermine the news to calm her but she is upset... leaves the table...

     Diego catches her at bedroom, tries to make fun of her worry, calling her the house's amazon...

     Esme:: I'm afraid. Before it did not matter because it was just the two of us. But we have the kids to look after now...

     Diego: Esme, you always knew things could get difficult again...

     Esme: and if so, would you become zorro again?

     Diego: absolutely! (Esme is concerned but kisses him knowing that it is Diego/Zorro, the man she fell in love with and married...)

     (years later, Diego is training a teenager Alejandro to swordfight with Bernardo looking over... meanwhile the new commander arrives in the town... his attitude looks just as corrupted as Montero. Later [probably months later] Diego and Alejandrito are practicing gun shooting inside the cave... )

     Diego: the new commander is causing trouble, i think it is getting time to go to work... what do you say Alejandro? are you ready to face him?

     Ale: Do you mean become Zorro to fight him?

     Die: You are trained!, almost as well as I was!..

     Ale: Almost??

     Die: Almost!... but I trust you... (Alejandro shows some reluctance) What's the problem? Are you doubting now?? you have always dreamed of this!!

     (Bernardo brings a horse for Ale and then leaves ALe alone with the horse...)

     (Ale puts on the mask and says same vow Diego used to say when he dressed as Zorro... I put the mask to cover my identity, put on the cape to protect my life and use my sword to fight for justice...)

     (The new Zorro and Diego come outside to Esme ... Diego and Esme are sending the new Zorro away on his first mission [apparently]... Esme tells Alejandrito that he has to come back home every night... as the new Zorro takes off, Diego tells Esme he hopes Alejandro will be as lucky as him in finding love... (from a distance Ale as Zorro salutes his parents... final kiss) FIN...
