Resumen de Yolette (www.rinconlatino.com): Marimar es una joven inocente que vive con sus abuelos en una chosa en la playa. Son muy pobres y a veces Marimar tiene que ir a robar para dar a su familia de que comer Un dia se encuentra necesitada y va a la Hacienda Ibañez para robar unas verduras y huevos para que sus abuelos no mueran de hambre, pero el capataz de la hacienda la descubre. Este malechor decide de aprovecharse de ella; le dice que puede tomar las verduras si ella le da un beso. Ella resiste y sus gritos trae corriendo a Sergio, el hijo consentido de la casa grande. Sergio la proteje y le dice que de bajo de toda su mugre, ella es "bella". Ma5rimar se enamora de el en ese mismo instante. Y cuando Sergio quiere desquitarse con su familia porque no quieren darle su parte de la herencia y lo piden que siente cabeza, el concibe un plan para casarse con "la mugrosa de la playa"y asi humillarlos. (And when Sergio hatches a plot to revenge himself on his family because they won't give him his half of the inheritance, insisting that he settle down once and for all, he concieves of a plan to marry the "dirty girl from the beach" to humiliate them.) Marimar, deslumbrada, acepta casarse con Sergio y cae en su red...sin saber que su propio padre, un hombre muy rico que abandono a su mama, la esta buscando para que ella sea su heredera.

Primera Semana:

Gustavo can't forget the poor woman, Lupita, and the daughter that he abandoned many years before. He's ill and is worried about the future of the inheritance left him by his parents. Marimar's grandparents, in San Mártin de la Costa, also mourn their daughter Lupita's death. Angélica, la segunda esposa de Renato, discute con su marido Renato sobre la Sergio y su inherencia. Renato quiere que Sergio se case. Monica le dice a Angélica que Angélica está enamorada de Sergio; Angélica lo niega. Griselda, owner of ?, tells Micandro she knows a secret about Marimar. Micandro, the foreman of Sergio's ranch, catches Marimar trying to steal some vegetables and tries to take advantage of her. Sergio rescues her. She falls in love with him at once. Sergio hates the hacienda; he's bored by the way of life. He wants to sell his half (his inheritance) but his father refuses. Finally, his father agrees to put it up for sale but tells all the callers it's already been sold and tells Sergio there have been no calls. Renato decides Sergio should marry and settle down. Angélica, who seems to be in love with him, decides that her friend Monica is the best bet. Sergio, on learning that his father has lied to him about the sale and that the ranch is mortgaged, decides to get back at him by asking Marimar to marry him.

Segunda semana:

Angélica learns that she is pregnant. Sergio marries Marimar with the usual complications: he buys her a dress that is too big, she doesn't know how to eat properly, Angélica arranges a party where she makes up and dresses Marimar like a baby trying on her mother's clothes. Angélica's sister Antonieta arrives.

Marimar becomes pregnant. Micandro shoots Chuy (not sure why). Antonieta and Angélica work to get rid of Marimar. Sergio leaves the hacienda to work or travel or something. Angélica gives Marimar family jewels then arranges for her to be accused of theft. While she is in jail, Angélica has Micandro kill her grandparents (in a fire). Then she types a letter, signing Sergio's name, telling Marimar that he doesn't love her and is going to divorce her. When Antonieta realizes what Angélica has done, she leaves the hacienda. Angélica agrees to withdraw her accusation against Marimar and Padre Porres arranges for her to go to Mexico to stay with Josefina and get a job. He also gives her the papers about her birth but she doesn't, or can't, read them.

In Mexico, she gets a job as a maid named Bella in the house of her father, Gustavo Adama. Although both he and his aunt say she reminds them of somebody, they don't remember who. Gustavo is immediately attracted to her, moves her into the house, and begins to teach her how to clean, eat, dress, etc. Sergio continues to send money home and believe that Marimar is still there with her grandparents. When he sees the well-dressed maid in the streets of Mexico, he doesn't recognize her. After she falls down the stairs, and is put to bed for a few days, Esperanza looks through her things and discovers that Bella is, indeed, Marimar. (She's told Gustavo about Sergio but nothing more.) Although she doesn't tell Gustavo, fearing for her health (makes no sense at all), she joins wholeheartedly in his efforts to turn her into a lady and businesswoman. Somehow, he manages to teach her to read & write perfectly, dress, etc. in just a few months and she hides her pregnancy completely. Fearing that Bernardo is cheating him, he sends Bella there to evaluate the business. Sergio and Arturo frequent El Club but, again, to Sergio Bella just "looks like" Marimar. Brenda is interested in Sergio and Arturo is interested in a fling with Gemma (although she wants something more and doesn't want to hurt Esteban who has been like a brother to her). A millionaire, Rodolfo, visits El Club and falls for Bella, not Brenda. Bernardo decides to have it out with Gustavo and goes to Mexcio to see him but nothing happens. Bella, not even showing her pregnancy, gives birth slightly prematurely to a girl. She tells Bernardo and Brenda that she is Gustavo´s daughter but not her father and she can´t do anything without the power of attorney he refuses to give her. Sergio is in love with her. Padre Porres and Corazón visit her. Esteban falls in love with her and is determined to protect her. When Sergio returns home, he finally learns that MariMar has gone and nobody knows where. When Renato tells his wife that the mortgage has been paid, she pridefully tells him what she did to rid them of MariMar. He is shocked.

An increasingly ill Gustavo goes to the club to sell his share; Bella continues to ask for power of attorney (though with him there it is hardly necessary) but denies she is his daughter. Nevertheless, when he is about to sign over his part to Bernardo, she blurts it out and he, of course, has a heart attack. He dies in the hospital. Bernardo tells Esteban to make Bella love him, by force if necessary. Angélica cree que su marido es infiel; Micandro le envia cartas anónimas. Renato kills him (because he was trying to rape Angélica?) and flees to Sergio in Mexico, where he tells him the whole truth about MariMar, including that she was pregnant. He's become a drunk. El gobernador, a widower, falls for Bella. Esteban goes "on vacation" to have plastic surgery; when he returns, Gema doesn't recognize the handsome man wearing glasses. Renato goes to work for Bernardo as Esteban's replacement. Brenda tells Bernardo that "el futbolista" is something special to Bella. Antonieta returns to Angélica's house to help her. Perfecta tells Antonieta that Angélica denounced Renato to the police and that she is not right in the head. Angélica has had a miscarriage.

Renato starts to blame Sergio and his marriage to MariMar for all his problems. Antonieta seduces Chuy; Angélica is furious. MariMar pays Brenda to encourage Renato to gamble away his home and land. She plays san Genis against the governor and Sergio. Esteban warns her that vengeance isn't good.

Bernardo sells his part of the consortium to Rodolfo. Gemma says goodbye to Arturo when she realizes he won't marry her. A drunk, angry & rejected Rodolfo seduces Alina but remembers nothing when he wakes the next morning. El hijo de Angélica cae de su cuna; está herido pero recovers. Esteban ayuda a Gemma hacer célos a Arturo. It works and Arturo asks Gemma to marry him. Sergio more and more suspects that Bella is MariMar. When he discovers that she is holding the hacienda's papers, he decides to go home and get his divorce. Angélica swears to Sergio on her son's life that Nicandro alone was responsible for the deaths of MariMar's grandparents. Alina leaves Rodolfo. Angélica's son develops epilepsy; MariMar pays for its care anonymously. Sergio finally meets his daughter and learns that Bella is, indeed, his Mari Mar. The divorce is finalized. Antonieta and Chuy marry and she goes to live with him in a poor shack. Mari Mar gains her vengeance when she forces Angélica, in the presence of her husband, Sergio, Natalia and others, to retrieve from the mud, with her teeth, copies of the hacienda papers---which she then returns. Angélica and Renato both vow vengeance, although Bella was only paying them back for their own actions. Gema and Arturo se casan.

Chuy and Antonieta lose their baby. Sergio takes a private plane somewhere and it crashes. He and the pilot get out but he gets lost when he goes for help. Mari Mar gets Rodolfo’s help, searched for and finally finds him. Antonieta appears to go crazy but she and Chuy eventually reconcile. Bella arranges for a friend to buy Renata’s hacienda in her name. Natalia tries to kill Bella but Brenda stops her. Fernando puts Natalia under psychiatric treatment. Angélica transforms Inocencia so she can woo Sergio. Sergio agrees to marry her when his divorce is final. Natalia forces the police to order Bella to leave town. Esteban, por amor por Mari Mar, convinces Rodolfo to buy her share of the consortium. Bella returns to la hacienda Santiba’~nez and renames it Casa de los Abuelos. Natalia convinces her father to switch his affections to Isabel. (At this point all the people in Valle Escondida just sort of disappear from the story line.) Angélica is frightened by the sight of Micandro’s twin. Antonieta sets up a school. Sergio tells Mari Mar he loves Innocencia. Angélica dies a slow, tortured death from burns suffered when the taxi she was in crashes and burns. Renata swears vengeance against MariMar.

Last Week:

Sergio y Innocencia se casen. 7-8 meses pasan. MariMar suspects Chuy is stealing from her but he denies it. Innocencia has a baby boy. MariMar continues to lose money and animals. Adrian, an engineer, arrives to tell MariMar that oil (which belongs to the government) has been found on her land and she must turn the hacienda over to the government for which she’ll be paid its commercial value which at this point is not very much. Adrian falls for her. Chuy seems cold and hard. Chuy tells Nosario to get rid of Adrian (don’t know why). Sergio tells MariMar he’ll divorce Innocencia if she says yes. She doesn’t give him an answer. Innocencia gets a fatal brain tumor. Renato tells MariMar to leave him and his son alone. MariMar says goodbye to Sergio in the hospital and decides to marry Adrian.

Ultimo capitulo:

Sergio's father takes him to see a meeting between Adrian and Marimar in the woods. Adrian asks Marimar to marry him. She tells him she has only loved the father of her child. Sergio tells Marimar he'll take their child if she remarries. Nosario tries to shoot Adrian. They fight. He gets away. Chuy pays him off and he leaves. Sergio's father tells him Inocencia won't live much longer. Inocencia overhears Sergio's father telling a maid that Sergio was going to run away with Marimar the night he learned that Inocencia was dying. She swears she will find a cure. Inocencia tells Sergio that she won't die without revenging herself on Marimar. Marimar agrees to marry Adrian. Inocencia asks Marimar to leave her husband alone forever if she returns from Mexico alive and to marry him if she doesn't. Marimar tells Inocencia that she won't marry him in any case. Sergio tells el padre Porres that he now loves Marimar. El padre dice a Sergio that Marimar, when she was unjustly imprisoned, got a letter from him asking for a divorce. He also tells Sergio that it was only her persistence that was responsible for their finding him after his plane crashed. Sergio proves to her that it was not his signature on the letter which was probably written by Angelica. Chuy admits to Marimar that he stole from her, but only to protect herself from her own generosity. He has put the money in a bank. She thanks him and lets him keep the money for his family. Sergio calls his father from the hospital where Inocencia's operation was a success. He tells her that he will divorce Inocencia; his father agrees. Marimar rejects Adrián's proposal. On waking from the operation, Inocencia asks Sergio's pardon. Later she frees Marimar from her promise and asks her pardon. Renato also asks Marimar's pardon. Marimar gets good news about her business from Roberto; her fortune has been saved and has grown. Marimar and Sergio marry in the church. EL FIN.
