an endless
novela with several distinct parts.
Morelia y Beto son los hijos de Magdalena y
_________, un pobre familia en un pueblo en Mexico. Pero hay un secreto. Morelia
fue adoptada. Su padre se muere y quiere decirle la verdad pero su madre nego. Despues
de la muerte de su padre, Morelia leaves the pueblo for Miami. The
family needs money; Beto has just stolen some from his employer; a man who
wants Morelia owns the home where the family lives. As a total innocent, she
manages to find help along the way and arrives in Miami where she stays with a
friend from the pueblo. The friend is a bar girl and, after not finding work,
Morelia works there one night. A rich patron, LeBlanc, tries to take advantage
of her, loses his wallet and accuses her of theft. She is assigned an attorney,
Carlos Montero.
Morelia takes
refuge with Mercedes, a neighbor of her friend. Mercedes helps her get a job in
the home of Federico and Antonia Campos-Miranda. They have 3 children: Luis, a
cripple; José Enrique, and Jackie. Many years before, Susanna, a second cousin
of Antonia’s, married Montero. He was jailed for fraud; she died giving birth
and begging Antonia to care for the child. Antonia gave the child, Morelia, to
a Mexican couple and has felt guilty ever since. The family is very proud;
Antonia treats her servants as something beneath contempt. Kika, the
housekeeper, hates Morelia on sight.
José Enrique
loves Karina, a woman living (with her mother) beyond her means. He is an
architect. He has two friends, Osvaldo (who falls in love with Morelia) and
Gustavo, an older man, who loves Ofelia.
Reina is the
daughter of __________ and ___________ and the sister of Rony. She works as a
hairdresser. She has an affair with Federico.
Ofelia is the
mother of Dania and Tommy. Her husband died years ago and she lives with her
brother Federico and sister-in-law. Rony, a friend of Tommy and a musician,
falls for Ofelia at the same time she tries to get him together with Dania, her
plain, social worker daughter. Dania falls for him and doesn’t realize he isn’t
interested. One day, Dania finds Rony kissing her mother; she leaves the house.
She decides to steal him from her mother, for her mother’s own good.
Mercedes has a
daughter Juanita who loves Luis. Luis falls in love with Morelia, who has
brought him out of his depression. Beto turns up at the house thinking Morelia
is a secretary or something and is upset to learn she is a servant. He’s a very
unlikable young man:brash, loud, cruel, and a crook. He believes the world owes
him a living. He meets Jackie who, at that time, has a crush on Osvaldo and
doesn’t like the fact that Osvaldo likes Morelia. Soon, though, she falls for
Beto.
Eventually, José
Enrique and Morelia fall in love. But they are seen by LeBlanc (the man she rejected at the bar),
who is also a friend of the family. He tells José that Morelia is “una
cualquira” who robbed him and got the job precisely to win a rich husband. José
Enrique believes him and decides to punish Morelia by bedding her. After he
does (a semi-rape), he rejects her (naturally, he can’t tell she’s a virgin!).
She, of course, becomes pregnant. Kika tells Antonia who fires both her and
Mercedes. Antonia tells her son it’s because of the sex; she doesn’t tell him
about the child. Beto decides to get revenge by getting Jackie, whom José
Enrique loves dearly, into bed. Luis hates José Enrique when he discovers the
truth and accuses José Enrique of taking Morelia because he, Luis, loves her
Somehow, with
the help of Mercedes, Carlos Montero and Morelia learn they are father and
daughter. Federico tries to buy Morelia
off and she tells him the truth about her father, but he doesn’t tell Antonia
or José Enrique. Right before his marriage with Karina, the owner of the bar
(for some reason) tells José Enrique that the story he was told is a lie. José
Enrique, in the middle of the ceremony, says no and tries to find Morelia. He
locates Mercedes and tells her he didn’t know about the baby but Mercedes
refuses to tell him where Morelia is. Osvaldo
finds the proof that Federico framed Carlos Montero. Eventually, he tells José
Enrique the whole story. (Osvaldo doesn’t tell Morelia the truth because he
loves her and wants her to give José Enrique up.) José Enrique visits Carlos
Montero and begs him not to take his parents to court; after he leaves, Montero
has a heart attack. Morelia has, meanwhile, learned from Juanita that José
Enrique didn’t marry and came looking for her but she still thinks he just
wants her to intercede on his behalf with her father. José Enrique is convinced
she will never forgive him. He gets drunk and confronts his parents. His mother
doesn’t believe the truth, and still doesn’t know about Morelia.
Karina and the
owner of the bar, mad because José Enrique hit him upon learning the truth, conspire
to hurt Morelia. Karina learns about Jackie & Beto and decides to wait for
the optimum moment to show Jose Enrique. Beto gets his revenge by bedding
Jackie; Karina arrives with José Enrique a little bit late, followed by
Morelia. Karina says Morelia planned it. Beto doesn’t believe he’s done
anything wrong. Jackie is very hurt and her mother is no help, is
in fact cruel.
Federico
has another daughter __________, the daughter of a lover ______________who
seems to have disappeared. Federico tries to get the legal papers from Osvaldo
and shoots him. Osvaldo seems to be dying so Morelia agrees to marry him.
Federico escapes with the help of the bar owner and LeBlanc. Karina still wants
José Enrique, in spite of the scandal. His mother and father blame Montero for
not “forgetting and forgiving”. Juanita returns to the house to help Luis walk
again.
Federico is
presumed dead (the body of the bartender, who, at LeBlanc’s instruction, had
tried to kill Federico, turns up unrecognizable on the beach with Federico’s).
Antonia learns, finally, who Morelia is but that doesn’t change her attitude.
In an incredibly unrealistic trial, Morelia represents her father (who is
recovering from the heart attack) and Jose Enrique his father. Jose Enrique
admits the guilt of his father. (Morelia’s father is every bit as bitter and
cruel as Antonia, forcing Morelia to do what she doesn’t want to do.)
Federico turns up at his other daughter’s
home then goes to Leblanc to plot vengeance (not knowing Leblanc ordered his
death so Federico wouldn’t tell about his complicity in the fraud). When Karina
learns Jose Enrique is broke as well as dishonored, she withdraws her offer
that the family move in with her and shows her true colors. Jackie tries to
kill herself after another bitter argument with her mother (what a bitch).
Morelia, following her father’s instructions, has Jose Enrique sign the papers
turning over everything and he vacates his office. The band (Beto, Rony, etc.)
performs but Beto, knowing about Jackie, isn’t with it at all.
Morelia gives
Reina’s father back the job from which he was fired by Federico because Antonia
had discovered Federico with Reina. Federico conspires with Karina to get back
what is “his”. Ofelia moves in with her daughter although they are still rivals
for Rony. LeBlanc, with permission of Luis and Antonia, collects papers from
Federico’s office (presumably those that implicate him); Luis says he doesn’t
need to see them.
Morelia becomes
a “lady” and takes over the business while her father goes on a vacation (more
or less arranged by Karina, without anybody’s knowledge). Beto becomes a
woman-chaser, continues to be lazy, crude, etc. Luis, with the help of Jackie,
learns to walk again. Karina chases Morelia’s father and gets him to propose;
she figures this is her best revenge against Morelia and Jose Enrique: she gets
their money. Osvaldo recovers. Gustavo, after talking with Jose Enrique,
decides to continue to work for Morelia. She and Jose Enrique meet once or
twice but he is too proud to have anything to do with her now that he is broke
and dishonored. He can’t find work.
Stopped
following closely. Beto treats Jackie, who is a waitress, very badly. Daniel is
attracted to her. Juanita and Luis are becoming closer; he is almost completely
cured. Karina and Montero marry without telling Morelia. Not sure what happens
when they arrive home after the honeymoon. José Enrique begs Morelia to marry
him; she refuses. She says she is going to marry Osvaldo and that her son will
be Osvaldo’s. It appears that Montero has no will so when he dies everything
will go to Karina and she seems anxious to make sure he engages in physical
activity.
Rony and Dania
are engaged, although he doesn’t seem too happy about it. Gustavo and Ofelia
are engaged, although she doesn’t seem too happy about it. José Andrés, drunk,
turns up at the civil wedding of Morelia and Osvaldo. Morelia faints, goes to
the hospital and gives birth prematurely to a son. Osvaldo tells her everybody
is there except her father (which is true; he is sick at home) and José Enrique
(who was there until news of the birth and the fact that she was out of
danger). José Enrique had promised God that if Morelia and the child survived
he would give them both up forever, and he plans to comply with his promise.
Drunk, he is run over by a car and taken away some place. Morelia tells Osvaldo
she can’t and won’t marry him. Karina tells Morelia not to return to the house
if she values her father’s life but it is obvious that Karina is willing and
able to hasten his death since the will will leave everything to her.
Somehow, Montero
finally learns the truth about Karina and confronts her. At first she denies it
but then admits she married him for money and to get back at Morelia and José
Enrique. He has a heart attack and Karina leaves him to die---which he does,
after hiding a new will in the picture of his first wife and himself. Barbarito
tells Karina, Gustavo and Morelia that he witnessed a new will that left
everything to Morelia. She, and they, look for it but can’t find it. Karina
inherits everything and Morelia is poor again. Lisa Marcela, un actriz, tries
to cure José Enrique of his alcoholism. She meets the woman she thinks José
Enrique loves, but it was Karina not Morelia, and she can’t understand how José
Enrique could love a woman with no heart.
Luis broke up
with Juanita; not sure why. But Norma wants him. Ronny left Dania at the altar;
she ends up in a hospital; repentant, he marries her. Morelia is discovered by Señor Rosco Sartini (?) who turns her
into a model and actress (a transformation which is unbelievable for the
character: give her a new hairdo and clothes and all of a sudden she becomes a
high-class model and actress). She must work with Lisa, the actress who saved
and loves José Enrique, who now works on the set. Jackie is going to marry
Daniel, though she doesn’t love him (too bad; he’s a much better catch than
Beto). Ofelia has agreed to marry Gustavo. Osvaldo returns from his trip and
agrees to help Gustavo unmask Karina. Lisa threatens Morelia and Le Blanc is
after her again. The producer likes to find and create sensations (like a
Pygmalion) but then he gets bored with them. Karina’s secretary plays a tape
and hears Montero and Karina, but because this is a telenovla, instead of removing
the tape and taking it to Osvaldo, she just tells him about it..and the tape
falls into Kika’s hands. She plans to blackmail Karina. Federico and Reina get
back together.
Antonia returns
home. Morelia becomes a famous actress. Kika is blackmailing Karina. Osvaldo
somehow proved Montero was Morelia’s father but when he tells Karina, she tells
him that she has lost all the money except the home (don’t know if true). José
Enrique leaves Lisa’s home, although they remain lovers, and moves in with
Gustavo. Lisa tells Rosco that José Enrique is the father of Morelia’s child
and asks him to keep José Enrique away from Morelia. Hermán falls for Morelia.
He is a mujeriego. Morelia’s new name is Amanda. Luis is impotent when he is
with Juanita, but she doesn’t know that is it has something to do with the
accident that paralyzed him; she thinks it’s another woman, Montero’s secretary
now works for Morelia and loves Osvaldo but he still loves Morelia. Jackie is
back with Beto. Norma tells Jackie she and Luis are novios and he doesn’t deny
it. (Luis only feels like a man when he is with Norma.) Norma has some kind of
relationship with Le Blanc. Luis finds Le Blanc in Norma’s apartment. He wants
to save his brother from her.
Somehow Karina
gets Montero’s will (which Morelia had finally found) invalidated. Jackie gets
leukemia and is dying. She and Berto marry. Karina eventually goes to jail for
complicity in Montero’s death and Morelia gets the house. Dania is pregnant;
she and Rony reconcile. Morelia and José Enrique continue to be at odds with
each other, although it’s not at all clear why (other than to keep the story
going). The producer, jealous and angry that Morelia is planning to leave the
country, decides she will die. He replaces a fake knife with a real knife,
expecting Lisa to kill Morelia in the final shot of a scene but at the last
minute he tells her to play the scene differently and she ends up stabbing
Lisa. Morelia is convicted and goes to the same jail in which Karina and Kiki
are incarcerated.
Luis donates
bone marrow to Jackie and she recovers. Her mother and Beto are in the hospital
with her.
Something has
happened to Juanita. She says it’s too late for her and Luis. Somehow they’ve
gotten involved with Le Blanc and drugs. The police chase Luis. He gets in a
boat, rams it into a bridge and dies.
José Enrique
discovers that Lisa is not crippled and leaves her. She collapses and dies (I
don’t know from what). José Enrique finds his father near death, he and Le
Blanc having shot each other. The son of José Enrique was lost or kidnapped.
6 years pass.
José Enrique lives in his old house. The housekeeper is Omara, a witch who
raised Lisa. Morelia gets out of jail early and applies for a job as a servant
in José Enrique’s house, as, she says, a way to punish herself for her pride
and all the bad things she did. José Enrique agrees, determined to punish
Morelia. Omara is also bent on revenge; she hates Morelia. They still haven’t
found their son. He is a child of the streets whom José Enrique runs across one
day (without, of course, knowing who he is). The child, Pillete, says his
parents died. He lives with a poor couple. Gustavo and Ofelia have married.
Reina is married to Freddie and pregnant. José Enrique treats Morelia cruelly
because he holds her responsible for the disappearance of their son. Jackie and
Beto are traveling around the world. Jackie is pregnant. Juanita is working
somewhere and has not yet forgotten Luis.
Everybody,
except José Enrique, insists that Morelia leave but she insists on staying for,
as she says, punishment in the hopes that God will return her child to her if
she is sufficiently repentant; partly because she realizes she still loves him.
José Enrique has 3 female friends (Marta, Judith, Sara) but Sara is the most
serious about him. Both José Enrique and Morelia, in different ways, meet
Pillete, a child of the streets who is, in reality, theirs. Both are taken with
him. Karina has become a drunk, homeless person who sees José Enrique outside
Pillete’s “home”. Her mother died and her face is scarred so she couldn’t get
work as a model. Omara tries to make Morelia crazy, or lead José Enrique to
believe that she is. Herman arrives and asks Morelia to marry him. She says no.
Sara and Omara join forces to get rid
of Morelia. José Enrique decides to adopt Pillete but learns he must marry
first.
Pillete’s “tia”
brings his original belongings to Omara, for cash. She and Sara plan to use
them to get her to Herman’s apartment where José Enrique will find them in a
compromising position. Morelia and Mercedes convince José Enrique that the
clothes belong to their son. Meanwhile,
resulta que Lisa no esté muerta. Viva en un cuarto en la casa de José Enrique. Sufrió
a stroke and is in a coma. Omara
cares for her. Ademas, José Enrique es el esposo de Lisa. El dice a Morelia la
verdad, pero ella se queda---por José Enrique y por Pillete.
Ultimas Semanas. Por fin!
Lisa is
recovering from her coma but doesn’t let anybody but Omara know. José Enrique
tells Morelia he wants to annul his marriage with Lisa and marry her or she
must leave. She refuses to let him leave Lisa because it wouldn’t be fair to
Lisa. Danilo wants to marry Juanita but she says no.
The “aunt”,
Lala?, of Pillete tells Omara how they found the baby underneath a bridge and
she realizes the child is Morelia’s son. She tells the woman not to tell
anybody the story, especially Morelia or the architect, or they would be jailed
for kidnapping. The woman tells her husband Calvo and Karina what happened and
Karina also realizes that Pillete really is Enriquito. Lisa tells Omara she
must get rid of Morelia or the child and to start by making Pillete hate
Morelia.
Morelia
discovers that Lisa is faking, but José Enrique doesn’t believe her. She leaves him and, after discovering she is
pregnant by him again, agrees to marry Hermán and leave the country. Rosco
Sartini turns up again, tells Lisa he knows she’s faking, and demands to know
where Morelia is. He’s still obsessed with her. It turns out that Morelia’s
known for a long time that he was responsible for planning Lisa’s murder and
then switching the knives. José Enrique discovers that Lisa has been faking and
almost kills her but she is convinced she can get around him again. Julio
Menendez, the doctor who treated Lisa and whom she gave a drug to, died and the
police know the car accident was not an accident.
Rosco
threatens Morelia. José Enrique finally rejects Lisa completely. She goes to
Morelia’s hotel; when she’s about to shoot her, Rosco enters and they kill each
other. On his deathbed, he confesses everything to José Enrique but dies before
he can tell him that Morelia is pregnant. José Enrique ask Morelia to marry
him; she refuses him because he has never believed her, never had faith in her.
She is going to marry Hermán---which I wish she would because she is right, but
she won’t.
two weeks till the final episode! Omara
tells José Enrique that Pillete is his child and how she and Sara set Morelia
up; he doesn’t believe her at first. Sara tries to get into his good graces but
he throws her out, telling her he knows the truth. Meanwhile, Morelia is about
to marry Hermán and Karina has kidnapped Pillete and tied him up. He escapes;
Karina chases him, is run over by a truck and dies. Morelia blames José Enrique
for letting Pillete go; he blames her---and doesn’t tell her the truth. Then he
accidentally runs over him while backing his car out of the driveway. Juanita
realizes she loves Danilo and they decide to wed. Reina has a child. José
Enrique decides to leave Morelia and their son in peace, let her marry Hermán
and tells Hermán so. But Hermán doesn’t trust him and tells Morelia that José
Enrique told him he would use the child to force a reconciliation.
El Gran Final! At the church, Morelia finds José Enrique instead of Hermán. Su madre, Jackie y Beto attend. Nothing much else happens for the rest of the hour. We learn that Hermán stopped José Enrique at the airport. Antonia remembers some scenes with Morelia and Karina. Juanita gets the bridal bouquet. All live happily ever after.
